I really didn't think it was possible for it to be as good as it was. I'm glad I was wrong. I saw it last night with my brother and I'm taking my wife and kids to see it tonight. I just didn't think there was a way to incorporate all those disparate characters without it feeling lame like the fantastic four. But it worked. Hulk's payoff was especially awesome.

Saw the Avengers, and its not that bad.
Except we have another franchise where they cast Samuel L Jackson, and refuse to let him yell.
Robert Downey Jr. still gets to be the star of the show, even though there is little he actually does, sans being a floating head in a cgi suit.
Mark Ruffalo feels vulnerable as Banner, which is a nice change from Edward Norton's take on him.
Tom-whats-his-face is given some cliche villiany things to do but makes it all seem interesting.
Chris Evans continues to be a pile of wood.

And somehow, it all works.

I was with a good audience too. It was half 11 in the morning in Hamilton in Scotland and half the room was full. That's pretty good for a 2D showing at that time of day. I have no idea how many people were at the 3D showing the hour before.

In Jewish history, the Jews would occasionally follow Canaanite gods who were technically not part of their overall belief system. They just borrowed it for a while before returning to their monotheism. Even archeological evidence supports Jewish traditions being quite old and being quite different from their Canaanite neighbors.

True, in the real world. But as far as Thor goes, I'm fairly certain they actually make a joke or at least hang a lantern on the fact that they actual kinda fucked with the humans religion to make themselves look better...or something along those lines. It's been a while since I saw it.

And I believe so, I'm definitely not a historian or even play one on tv, but from what I do know, that would sound about right. Most of it just stems from how isolated the Norse religions were compared to Greek/Roman/Egyptian. I mean those three pretty much swapped ideas every day.

An elliptical way to my point, but an "objective" version of largely invented, embellished, and retold stories lost to time is impossible. I mean, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all descended from the same original source material. And heavily edited due to historical circumstance. Ancient Judaism was polytheistic, for example. So what any people, ever, "really believed" is moot.

And if I remember correctly, norse mythology and religion was less intertwined than something like religions of Ancient Greece. More, uh, messy?

Well yeah, except in this case we actually get to see and hang out with the REAL gods that the religion is based on. So we can make a one to one comparison.

EDIT: Did you just imply that every religion is actually based on a warping of real, existing gods? Cause I'm pretty sure you did.
