While I absolutely agree with all those points (hell, I couldn't even remember the villains name when talking about it immediately after exiting the theater), I enjoyed the fuck out of that movie. Because the movie isn't taking it's self too seriously I'm more willing to let those things slide. It's kinda like watching a Jackie Chan flick. I don't know why he's in a pot and ladder factory, but it's fun watching it. Scenes like where they're fighting through reversing time or where they're trying to deal with the mirror dimensions bullshit have a similar vibe to me.

I want to get in the habit of putting cancellations in this thread so people don't have to hunt through chat to figure out of we're playing. So, we're canceled this week. (Blame Boter  tongue )

I will not be available next week as I'll be in a car somewhere in the midwest on my way home from a wedding.

Can I use my high Intelligence and Keenness scores to write something that'll get me the people I need without actually saying anything illegal or that would bring tons of spies and attention down on my head?

I expected as much from Saanvi, but perhaps we can work out some kind of deal where we can do a favor for her in exchange for a discount.

I'm willing to go check it out. I tell him to book some transport and arrange the rest of an away team.

TOP SECRET - DO NOT READ UNLESS AUTHORIZED

Name: Noah Owens
Rank: Lieutenant Commander
Age: 64

Summery

Background:
Born Noah Ornelas to Amalia Ornelas, a poor single mother, in Rio de Jeneiro, Owens' father was out of the picture from the beginning. With the help of the community they were able to get by until their favela was ravaged by gang warfare. The community in tatters with many dead, including Amalia, Noah was suddenly on his own at the tender age of 11. A hothead even at that age, one of Owens' first actions was to join a rival gang to exact revenge.
Owens ran with the Estrelas Escuras for 4 years, both as a fighter and a mechanic, before the gang fell apart due to attrition and pressure from larger gangs. When the gang split Owens followed a man he looked up to, Miguel Alves, who decided to join the navy rather than another gang. Noah lied about both his age and his last name, hoping the name Owens would help him by making him seem more white and distance him from his past. Miguel joined the marines and while Owens intended to do the same, however while the recruiter was willing to accept his lie about his age he wasn't willing to put someone so young into the marines and directed him to tech school instead.

Service:
In the service Owens' smarts and skills served him well, but his hotheadedness did not, and he had a penchant for talking back to his superiors at inappropriate times. He bounced up and down the enlisted ranks but managed to never do anything serious enough to be discharged. However, as he entered his 30s his age seemed to have mellowed him out enough that he managed to rise to the rank of Master Chief. At the age of 38 he was assigned to the frigate Vertigo under Captain Lucas Holly where he gained the notice of the captain and received a recommendation into the Apollo initiative, giving him a free ride through officer school.
He graduated from the Terra Martial Academy with distinction, though the ascension to an officers rank also saw a return of some of his brashness. Despite this he managed to steadily rise through the ranks. Most recently he earned his promotion to Lieutenant Commander by showing distinction in the incident at New New Delhi, taking command of the frigate Intercessor after the captain was incapacitated and the XO proved himself unfit for command.

Assesment:
Skilled and valuable, but also dangerous. Too willing to question superiors and toe the line. Strongly suspected to have sympathies with undesirable elements. Recommend pressuring him to retire and put him somewhere where we can keep a close eye on him until he does. Put him under a captain we can trust, like Erren-Laiyer.

Anton Clay

Noah and Anton met while they were both serving a "punishment tour" on the supply ship Troglodyte. Both of them had been busted for minor insubordination and their similar attitudes lead to friendship. While they were always the prime suspects for any practical joke or prank, they were never actually caught doing anything. After their tour Noah went back to combat ships while Anton, having displayed a genuine skill for logistics, stayed in the supply branch. He moved up the ranks for a while until his disdain for higher command caught up to him and it was suggested to him that he might want to muster out. He then built a business for himself recruiting and headhunting for paramilitary organizations (and anyone else looking for hardened professionals). He and Noah have traded favors before, and it might be time to call him back up again.

Saanvi Pandey

Hate this backwater planet and would rather be literally anywhere else, if you could afford it? Well, Saanvi is the woman for you. Sign a contract, board a ship, and soon you will find yourself somewhere else, so long as you're not picky about where that somewhere is. You'll even be gainfully employed, which is good because you now owe Saanvi a rather large chunk of money. While not technically indentured servitude, it skirts the line and draws extra attention. While assigned to a patrol ship, Noah has inspected more than a few of her ships. Maybe it's time to make use of her services.

Now I'm mad DIF never did Space Jam.

So, I need to make some contacts. People who know people who can get me the right people. I want to put some feelers out and find at least one person can recruit me some skilled personnel, and several people who can get me new recruits in general.

18!

For real though guys, do we just go raiding vet retirement homes, or what? Maybe we can invest in cloning tech...

Yes. I roll to start a band. This is a charisma check, I assume?

We need people who can be officers and can train people up, so we need to look for an opportunity to recruit a bunch of ex military types. We also need to find a way to establish a steady supply of new recruits so we can keep training people up for replacements and expansions. Any ideas?

So, I think what we really need to do is some heavy recruiting. Our ragtag company is running low and if we're going to do some more capturing we need some proper boarding parties. I believe that getting both ships up to proper crew strength should be priority one.

Apologie accepted... Captain Needa.

Yeah, Vaders line there didn't bug me at all, worked fine. Though I do agree about the hand motion, would have worked better without it.

Here's the thing though, Vader's humor is completely, 100% dry. They are not told as jokes, even though they are clever. This line had the cadence of a joke though, which is why if feels off. If he hadn't turned around, maybe just turns his head a bit, delivers the line completely dry, then stops choking him as he walks away, then the line can work. As is, I don't think it does.

I was more distracted by the fact that Vader had quips. That's just not his style. Also that scene would have been so much more badass if he hadn't been doing the pinchy thing. No hand motions, just choking.

Are we playing today? If so, I'll probably be a little late, like a half hour or so.
