This trailer made me nearly obsessed with seeing the film. I wasn't disappointed. Definitely one of the best trailers in recent memory.

I think it was Teague who said that he'd like to see the "novel" that the film was based off of, with all of the extra information and character stuff that the movie cut. Well, James Cameron is writing a novelization HIMSELF, because he's fucking James Cameron, and he refuses to let some tie-in novelist asshole ruin his story, because THAT'S HOW HE ROLLS.

Seriously, he goes out of his way to shit all over tie-in novelists. They're not THAT bad.

I recently saw a Korean film called Old Boy. It's dark, complex and fucked up in all the best ways. I would enjoy a commentary of Old Boy.

Like most Asian films, it's dark and mysterious and enjoyable until they actually explain the mystery at the end, and you just go "...wat? Really? Okay, but...I mean...why?"

I thought the movie was cool and particularly the bit with the hammer and the hallway, but by no means was I mindblown like people said I should be. I had essentially the same reaction to it that I did to BATTLE ROYALE -- that it wasn't nearly as fucked-up as I'd heard.

Agreed, though I like Battle Royale a lot. I can't watch Oldboy ever again because of that GOD DAMN octopus scene. I've had this weird, purely psychological thing about octopuses for a long time, and that scene came out of nowhere and freaked the shit out of me.

Mal's line was actually, "They say never to hit a man with a closed fist, but it is, on occasion, hilarious.".

Anyway, this film hurt me. Not so much as a fan of the franchise, but as a Whedon fan. I can't count the number of people who have scoffed at my love for Firefly by saying, "Oh, yeah, the guy who wrote 'Alien: Resurrection' made something good. Riiiight." I hope that The Avengers is good, for that sake.

1.) Monster's Inc.
2.) The Incredibles
3.) Toy Story
4.) WALL-E
5.) Toy Story 3
6.) Ratatouille
7.) Toy Story 2
8.) TIE: Finding Nemo/Up
10.) A Bug's Life
11.) Cars

This is a tough one. I legitimately love all of these films, excluding Cars, which I don't have any emotional attachment to. I really did grow up with these. Even though Up is fantastic, I'm not as attached to Carl and Russel as I am to, say, Woody and Buzz, or Mike and Sully. Cars is the only Pixar movie that I really don't like, and even that one is okay without the bar set by the others.

Haven't listened to the commentary yet, but I'll say this. I hated the end of this film. Not the actual ending, but more the last half hour. I hated how it all of sudden became a slasher film. If the film had cut that out completely, it would have been great.

Set 'The Seven Samurai' in Brazil.

Close. Try modern-day Thailand. And the titular samurai are mercenaries led by George Clooney. Produced by the Weinsteins. And no, that's not a joke.

I would love to hear the thought process of anybody who thinks the Kill Bill things were films period, much less the best of anything.

Ouch! wink

Well, you see! That kind of opinion would make for an interesting episode.

I think that, when watched together, the change from Vol. 1 to Vol. 2 can be jarring. Where 1 was more about introducing the plot, and having flashy fight scenes, 2 was more of Tarantino doing what he does best, writing dialogue for the sake of writing dialogue. The ONLY reason that it works is because, well, he's Quentin motherfuckin' Tarantino, and he's a great writer. Bill's monologue about superheroes near the end of the second film? Brilliant.

Since any attempt by me to enter into a discussion on this topic would end in a rambling, incoherent rant that nobody wants to read, I will simply say that I wrote a blog post about it when Ebert first posted his opinion, and you can read it here.

I'd love to hear your opinions on the 'Kill Bill' films. I consider them to be two of the best film of the 00's, or whatever we're calling them. I refuse to use the term "oughts".
