Umm, not sure?
I can't recall what I managed to babble about, so now I'll have to listen again this week and see if I made a complete fool of myself.

Then again, that could possibly be more entertaining, so ... who knows.

Well without looking, I think he does expressly state that that character is a inspiration/ reference for the Luke character. And let's be honest, is that in any way a bad thing?

Just going to post a link, as there are quite a few great images that this guy has done.

He has been on a kick of character concept designs in different genre's. So we get things like ...
Rockabilly Batman & Villains
Steampunk Spiderman & Villains
Old West Justice League

And the most recent, and why I decided to post them here, Star Wars as an 80's High School movie. So things like Vader, Bobba Fett & Stormtroopers as a motorcycle/dirtbike gang, Ben Kenobi as the wise Lit teacher & Yoda as the wizend asian coach, The Emperor as the evil principal, Jabba as the fat mean Janitor, and Tarkin as the mean Math instructor.

Just good art capturing the essence of the characters in the new setting.

Ok, not sure if this fits in here or not, but ... WOW this needed to be shared.

This is a reviewer who primarily looks at really bad/low budget martial arts movies, but occasionally does just ... random stuff.

This is ... I don't know it's up on IMDB, it's released on video, it's a ... product of some kind but ... wow. There is a level of indie film that is below normal but are insanely fun to watch for one odd reason or another, Birdemic or The Room, this I think I agree with Lupa from the review, is going to definitely be in the running to join those.

My only real comment after two looks, is that while "All Aspects" kind of works for those who should know better, it is a little vague to those who only have a minor grasp of what might go into shots.
Possibly throwing a smaller font bullet point list bellow for what "all" entails?

ie:
All Aspects
-Modeling
-Animation
-Compositing

just a thought, then again, I tend to err on over explaining for those who don't know, its a style choice.

Not sure if I ever posted the more recent version of my full reel, so I thought that I would throw that up here, for people to check out.

And as the main reason I'm posting again, on a whim I thought I would throw my hat in at a job posting for a TV series project, and they asked if I had a more TV focused reel. Rather than the mixed TV/Film reel that my primary reel is.

To that end, I put together a quick reel today ... not quite finished but hey, it gave me something to do.

Both show off varied aspects of compositing, from full Green Screen BG replacements, to CG character inserts, to Rig Removals, to creative adjustments of what was on set. The first reel has a mix of feature & episodic, which thus has a range of timescales for the shots that are shown upwards of months on single shots. The TV focused reel is ... well all episodic shots, so they were all turned around in at most a week and a half, more then not within the week.

I also noticed that, Digital Domain has posted up on their website the commercial spot that I worked on in the last weeks.

An incredible fan film, that a friend and co-worker of mine, spent his own money and put together.

Spread the word on this one if you like it.

Yup, he was a dancer in The Great Muppet Caper and two of the Fireys in Labyrinth too. smile

I think it's safe to say that he always managed to steal the scene in Red Dwarf, and it's impresive that if you are looking, he can even do it in his small parts in other projects. He always jumped out at me in... Blade 2 in a "OMG It's him!, wait what were they talking about?" kind of way.

I'm a bit burnt at the moment, so can't really give much by way of creative critique on the resume, other than it seems to flow pretty well now, and that seems to be something that is good.
I do agree with the quote from Ryan, I just landed a gig, and while I am sure they looked at the paperwork, they were more interested in the breakdown sheet that I put together as we all watched my reel.
As my own resume was ... well possibly 10 or so revisions ago, largely based on the design of a friends, and have since had another friend crib the style that I had at the time for layout purposes, I will try to link to my current resume, in the spirit of spreading ideas around. Resume's being that annoying thing that you may or may not need, but it may be good to have something sketched out for when you need to throw it together.
Amusingly I on a whim on my last revision decided to name check Down in Front, as one of my "things I do" entry's.

#1: You admire a character for trying more than for their successes.

#2: You gotta keep in mind what's interesting to you as an audience, not what's fun to do as a writer. They can be v. different.

#3: Trying for theme is important, but you won't see what the story is actually about til you're at the end of it. Now rewrite.

#4: Once upon a time there was ___. Every day, ___. One day ___. Because of that, ___. Because of that, ___. Until finally ___.

#5: Simplify. Focus. Combine characters. Hop over detours. You'll feel like you're losing valuable stuff but it sets you free.

#6: What is your character good at, comfortable with? Throw the polar opposite at them. Challenge them. How do they deal?

#7: Come up with your ending before you figure out your middle. Seriously. Endings are hard, get yours working up front.

#8: Finish your story, let go even if it's not perfect. In an ideal world you have both, but move on. Do better next time.

#9: When you're stuck, make a list of what WOULDN'T happen next. Lots of times the material to get you unstuck will show up.

#10: Pull apart the stories you like. What you like in them is a part of you; you've got to recognize it before you can use it.

#11: Putting it on paper lets you start fixing it. If it stays in your head, a perfect idea, you'll never share it with anyone.

#12: Discount the 1st thing that comes to mind. And the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th – get the obvious out of the way. Surprise yourself.

#13: Give your characters opinions. Passive/malleable might seem likable to you as you write, but it's poison to the audience.

#14: Why must you tell THIS story? What's the belief burning within you that your story feeds off of? That's the heart of it.

#15: If you were your character, in this situation, how would you feel? Honesty lends credibility to unbelievable situations.

#16: What are the stakes? Give us reason to root for the character. What happens if they don't succeed? Stack the odds against.

#17: No work is ever wasted. If it's not working, let go and move on - it'll come back around to be useful later.

#18: You have to know yourself: the difference between doing your best & fussing. Story is testing, not refining.

#19: Coincidences to get characters into trouble are great; coincidences to get them out of it are cheating.

#20: Exercise: take the building blocks of a movie you dislike. How d'you rearrange them into what you DO like?

#21: You gotta identify with your situation/characters, can't just write ‘cool'. What would make YOU act that way?

#22: What's the essence of your story? Most economical telling of it? If you know that, you can build out from there.

It looks like when you use the built in player & display, if you move back currently it only displays the "intermission" feed, and doesn't go "back" in the order that that is new integrated list.

A few folks have seen this as it pieced together, and thanks to Eddie's comments on some slight pacing issues, I am now settled with this cut.

This is not all my recent work, I've been on a few projects that are still on the shelf and not yet released, but it is a good cross-section & covers a decent range of types of shots. I was lucky enough to get some breakdowns for shots to show off what went into various shots.

Hope you enjoy.

Got home yesterday, and passed out cold for 12 hours of sleep. I didn't quite get up to speed today, and might make it up to the DIF recording tomorrow, so ... Taping will get done, no worries.

If I really want to come off as a nerd, I would argue that the 900 year age is a construct of the new seasons, that seems to pretty well de-age the doctor quite a bit from existing storylines.

I take it as a "mid-life" crisis thing where he has heavily rounded down, and now doesn't go any further. roll

I saw Skyrim in a previous post, and just saw this on a forum, had to post it.

Sorry for not posting recently, been a bit caught up in things at work, with shots that just won't go away.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I seem to run the spectrum of feeling good about the work that I do, and getting nicely self-doubting about if I really deserve to be where I am hmm .

So positive reinforcement is always appreciated. big_smile

I recently got a kick from seeing a blog review of the latest episode of Castle, that I got to contribute to, and the reviewer, likely no knowing, specifically called out some of the work that I did as a cool thing. The part of me that loves that usually folks cant see when I do work on a shot jumped for joy that someone noticed, and in a good way.
