Saw Frankenweenie finally, and really iked it.
Despite Brave being a disappointment, I think this year was a strong one fro animated films.
Recently have seen Searching for Sugar Man and Queen of Versailles and both are excellent. Still need to check out The Invisible War and Jiro (and others, but those are on Instant)
As far as the 9/11 calls, they probably did really cross the line, and the more I think about it, the more I see your points, but that opening really worked for me at the time, so chilling.
Also, loved Haywire, forgot to mention it. And The Raid barely missed my top 10. If I were more of a martial arts fan, it wold definitely have made it.
Ooh, TV
1. Mad Men
2. Girls
3. Breaking Bad (1/2 season after all)
4. Bob's Burgers (so goddamn good)
5. Louie (just not as strong as last season)
6. Parenthood (seriously, great show)
7. Parks & Rec
8. Boardwalk Empire
9. Community
10. Justified (no Mags this season)
This movie is great Allison, DIF are wrong!

(Can't wait to listen)
Also, Brick is great.
For some reason, this episode is skipping around weirdly, the opening plays twice, Eddie talking about Jiro repeats (off iTunes, is it just me?)
West Memphis is just over the river from Memphis (in AR)
Top
1. Django Unchained
2. The Avengers
3. Zero Dark Thirty
4. Looper
5. Les Misérables (I'm a huge Les Mis fan, know just about every lyric; I can understand that if you aren't familiar with the musical, you might say WTF)
6. Argo
7. Cabin in the Woods
8. Safety Not Guaranteed
9. The Innkeepers
10. Killer Joe
Surprises: Snow White, I really liked it, and it might be the best looking film I saw all year. But part of me does think, if only Bella hadn't been cast, could've been so much better.
Worst
I did not hate Brave, but it was a big disappointment
ATM
Hit & Run
1.Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
I did not hate Amazing Spider-man
Hooper did actually shake things up with Les Mis. It didn't feel it was theatrical at all, with all the close-ups, and though that doesn't work all the time, I admired the ambition of doing it. A few songs and actual spoken dialogue were added too, so it really did do things differently than the stage show.
Though, I agree about the structure feeling off.
And come on, Batman Begins is not shit, problematic yes, but "shit"?
I love Jaynestown!
Just had to say.
Carlos Jacott was also on Buffy and Angel (one of 6 actors to be in at least 3 Whedon series)
Valjean then DIF doing Firefly?
Best.Xmas.EVER
The godless DiF give godless (Joss is also an atheist) presents to the godless. I love it. Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too.
Book: Captain, you mind if I say grace?
Mal: Only if you say it out loud.
You guys need to start talking about what route's you'd take to these places to really make this a Californians SNL sketch
I agree Death Proof is his worst film.
Still really like it though, mainly because of Russell. That striptease/tease for the striptease scene is worth the price of admission IMO.
Weird, I don't think I've ever heard of Chicken Little. (Oh yeah, Zach Braff)
Will check it out.
Unrleated (more unpopular opinions)
I love Kristen Wiig. And that may not seem like an unpopular opinion, but I seem to meet (mostly on the web) people who really dislike her.
I've enjoyed some Dave Matthews Band songs
And Dave is super talented (as are all the members, especially the drummer).
I like Kill Bill 2 more than Vol. 1 (but love both)
And hell yeah for all the Death Proof love. I do agree about Zoe Bell though. She's not that great of an actress, but her stuntwork is so good, I can overlook (and it was a Grindhouse film after all).
Also, I love Michelle Rodriguez (even as Ana Lucia).
Chicken Little or Chicken Run?
If the latter, then I love that movie.
Ice Age is meh
So, I was listening to a movie podcast called Battleship Pretension. It's a really good podcast, but both hosts do not like BTTF.
Can you believe that? I mean, who the fuck doesn't like BTTF!
I learned it from watching you Pavlich! I learned it from watching you!
He tweeted about some commentary you guys were doing, though can't remember which, I like commentary, checked it out, been hooked ever since.
Mr. Pointy wrote:I also like Studio 60 and The Newsroom
I'm gonna need some elaboration on why. No judgement, I'm honestly curious.
Mr. Pointy wrote:I'm an atheist who likes Jesus Christ Superstar.
Same here. I still watch/listen to it all the time.
I love Aaron Sorkin's writing, (a LOT) that simple. I'm not in the TV business and don't care much about the inaccuracies. Just give me good dialogue and I'm in. I also love the actors in both. It's good enough for me. I know there are flaws, still like them both.
And Olivia Munn is great in The Newsroom (I understand why people don't like her, but she's still good, in The Newsroom).
I love this thread btw, fun reading all these confessions. And we've been very civil haven't we? Let's pat ourselves on the back a little.
Another Kevin Smith unpopular opinion.
I like Jersey Girl. It is not a bad movie. I think most of the shit it gest comes from the Benifer thing and Gigli coming out earlier that year and beign so terrible (or beign reviewed so terribly, haven't seen it).
I will never pretend Transformers 1 & 3 are good movies. But TF1 was fun. I thought Lebouf was charming as were his parents (I love Lulie White and Kevin Dunn). They were terrible (the characters) though in TF2 and that movie was overlong (even more overlong) and a mess. Also, in addition to a geriatric robot, minstrel bots.
Still, none of them are good movies. Unless you're talking about the animated version and that's a masterpiece

I do, however, like the episode Across the Sea (Lost: Season 6), that everyone seems to hate.
A few more
Vampire Diaries is a good show.
I love Bunheads!
Mr. Pointy wrote:I hated the Lost ending
Don't want to get into a huge Lost conversation again, but what was it about it you hated? Did you hate season six as a whole or were you liking it until the finale?
Season six as a whole was problematic, but it really was just the finale. It's not that I needed all the questions to be answered, it's just something bothered me about the ending; it was a cop out, as if the writers/creators said, well, we asked all these great questions, but how the hell are we going to end this. And they came up with what they came up with
Maybe "hate" is a strong word. I very much didn't like it.
Season 1 of Breaking Bad, because of the writers' strike, was barely a season. At least give it to season 2.
I know a couple of music-buffs (like, Berklee students) who are super into Toto.
Who knew.
Because Steve Lukather is completely amazing and awesome.
1) I refuse to listen to the "Sunshine" or "Scott Pilgrim" DIF commentaries. I am bound to their fate and I will risk no hurt to these movies.
.
I still haven't listened to the Scott Pilgrim commentary. I just can't bring myself to listen to the hate. I love that movie so much.
'Manhattan' is waaay better than 'Annie Hall', but Allen hasn't made an interesting film since 'Bullets over Broadway'.
This.
* I like the Tales of the Gold Monkey.
High five! This was my show as a kid, and it only lasted a season.
(I've also watched more episodes of 7th Heaven than I'd like to admit)
Now my confessions (sorry, lots to get off my chest, this is very cathartic)
I prefer Return of the Jedi to Empire. Ewoks are adorable, and those who hate them are horrible, cynical, heartless bastards.
Death Proof is FAR superior to Planet Terror.
Spy Kids is Rodriguez's best film.
Lord of the Rings also bores me (but they're VERY well made).
I share DIF's love of Titanic.
I like Ben Affleck a lot, as director and actor, don't ge the hate (mostly as an actor).
Chasing Amy is my favorite Kevin Smith film. Oh, and I'm still a Kevin Smith fan, liked Red State quite a bit.
I hated Magnolia, but have loved everything else PTA has done (haven't seen The Master yet though). Boogie Nights is in my top 5 films of all time probably.
2001 is absolutely Kubrick's best film
If you're bored by Fargo, take some ritalin and watch it again please.
Still love The Blair Witch Project, re-watched it this Halloween, still holds up for me.
I liked Transformers 1 & 3 (2 was shit though).
Wanted (Jolie) is a lot of fun. Love that movie.
Last Crusade is the best Indy movie
TV
I also like Studio 60 and The Newsroom
Buffy season 1 is good dammit.
Breaking Bad IS the best show on TV (though Community is the best comedy)
Babylon 5 was terrible.
Torchwood > Doctor Who
I hated the Lost ending, but loved the BSG ending, go figure.
The Angel series finale (Not Fade Away) was the best series finale of all time.
I also liked Dollhouse (own it on blu ray).
Music
Anyone who thinks Chinese Democracy is better than Appetite is tone deaf.
I don't know what dubstep is.
I'm an atheist who likes Jesus Christ Superstar.
Scrooge McDuck is Palpatine now.
Somebody get Timothy Zahn on the phone.
Donald vs. Howard the Duck, make it happen.
I want a 2D Ewok musical and "Yub Nub" better be a number, goddammit.
Slave Ariel
But FOX aired the episodes out of order!
I may have to listen tonight as we get some good winds from Isaac
(don't worry, not in any real danger, in NE Louisiana)
Though Hopefully I can avoid flying nutria.
I really like Twister, despite it's cheesyness.
And Jamie Gertz was underrated hot.
America just needs more cuckoo clocks.
I was in the chat for this, but I listened to it again on a drive and just laughed my ass off over Teague's Hedwig story and Trey's follow up about busting out the balloon animals if you get dragged on stage.
You owe me one ass, sirs.
EDIT: Oh, and a related note on Trey's method of rewriting lyrics for a song then rewriting the melody to get a whole new song, and his recommendation of Singin' in the Rain.... MGM writers were not above doing the same thing, and in fact for Singin' in the Rain, producers said, "We need a song for Donald O'Connor like 'Be a Clown'." So the writers rewrote the lyrics as "Make 'em Laugh" but didn't bother to rewrite the melody. "Be a Clown" was written by Cole Porter for MGM's The Pirate (also with Gene Kelly), and Porter didn't complain (hopefully there was a payment under the table).
Also, I've got to throw a word in for The Sound of Music and Guys and Dolls, my two favorite musicals, along with Singin' in the Rain and The Blues Brothers.
I bit of a humblebrag, but I saw Guys & Dolls on Braodway back in '92, with Peter Gallagher, Nathan Lane, Ernie Sebella (Pumba in The Lion King) and J.K. Simmons.
Good cast huh?
A little disappointed you guys didn't talk about Whedon's musicals (Dr. Horrible and Once More With Feeling, the Buffy episode).

But a good discussion, glad there wasn't too much musical hate (or really none at alll).
