Awesome! I tend to just get fatigued on personal projects; I move onto something else and come back after a couple months. Gives me a fresh set of eyes and ears for it too, which is great.
For work I do wedding films. I get fatigued in general at the end of the season but once I start editing, a project generally only lasts a week to a week and a half before I move on to the next.
Because of the way they're made, I'd assume that any intrusions in them wouldn't impart them with the same properties - or in fact wouldn't form right at all and would just crack.
Yellow Submarine and others like it - a "movie" made as accompaniment to an album or something - sounds like a good idea. My personal preference in that vein would be Daft Punk's Interstella 5555.
It's not so much visuals but I tend to have Pandora on a TV when I'm hosting parties. Awkward people could just kind of sit and jam to whatever's on.
Interesting! But am I the only one who didn't know what Prince Rupert's Drops were before this thread?
I found out because of the Smarter Every Day episode posted at the top of this thread, a few years ago. Great channel to subscribe to, he's currently doing a space series, talking to astronomers and so forth.
Does tempered glass make Prince Rupert's drops of the same style? For some reason I'd think the differing properties would keep it from forming the same but I'm actually curious now.
Trap idea is definitely a more robust and reliable idea. I wouldn't want to be the guy creating the arrows, nor the one firing them; same goes for packing and firing the trebuchet packs. But the trap idea? I now have something for my next Dungeons and Dragons game I run, thanks.
Aside from the bars cut out between verses, actually, I think the sync will be pretty spot-on. I'll do a light edit to that video so it still syncs up behind me
I was actually planning on recording the end credits in 1080p and having them play on the TV behind me as I listen through headphones... so I'm singing synced up to that. I can provide that recording for someone to edit if they wish.
(Of course it may exist online by now... back when it came out the best I could find was a standard def version.)
I, conversely, know the song absurdly well and can tell that Teague cut out some time in between verses, the instruments go for a bit longer than that
Absolutely looking forward to doing this. Friday is probably the next day I can reasonably record something but I'm psyched.
I don't do much in the way of instruments - nothing at all really - but if I'm feeling ambitious I may record an a capella track or two as well for the backing music.
Yeah, I didn't have the manpower for continually shooting snowballs at the car. If I had three more people for the job then yeah, I would've liked to do it.
I thought about that. It's definitely doable from a snowspeeder perspective, the trick is figuring out our AT-AT analogues - or if we're just hooning around empty parking lots and compositing in Power of the Force / Action Fleet / LEGO / CG walkers afterward
All that being said - does someone want to take the helm of the X-wing road trip project? I wouldn't mind starting the thread and trying to organize it but I don't have any story (/ story excuse) ideas at the moment.
Teague, All X-wings and the Y-wings at Yavin are one-man fighters, I believe called out as such by Dodonna during the briefing as something the Empire hadn't planned on. I just did front seat / back seat since we only had two vehicles at our disposal, plus having fewer at all times just made it less to coordinate up and down my dead-end street. (I'm sure any neighbors that were paying attention, though, are now more convinced of my weirdness.)
Tom, the video actually takes cuts from both the Y-wing run and the first X-wing run. I'll probably release a side-by-side tomorrow. And Owen, I'm particularly happy that my dog looked over his shoulder because I was able to match it to Leia doing the same thing in that shot
Ooh, I'm down. Cockpit scenes like this lend themselves very easily to shot-for-shot remakes like this; if we were to do other scenes, we'd have to take more liberties. But I mean, Battles of Hoth and Endor, totally doable (though exterior shots would need a few more resources). And that's just Star Wars. I'm sure there are plenty of other such movies (or TV shows) that would do just as well.
First, the video, because if I put it at the bottom of the post you'll spend more time reading than watching.
It's always great to realize that the seed of thought in your head can become a full project very easily.
In this case, the seed of thought was me asking Steph, "Do the high snowbanks on the side of our road remind you of the Death Star trench?" (Answer: "Yeah!")
I'd had the thought for a couple of weeks but decided this week that it was something I could do. I downloaded a Trench Run video from YouTube (1977 vs. SE comparison*) and cut up the sections I wanted to use, made easier by the first two runs not being scored at all. It was shot on a cloudy, snowy day on Saturday and on sunny days Sunday and today (Monday). And dammit I'm really happy with how it turned out.
I ended up shooting this entirely with my GoPro Hero 3 Black. 90% because I had to - mounting the camera both inside and outside of the cars and the only suction cup mount I have is for the small action cam - and the remaining 10% because at that point, why the hell not.
So anyways, I hope you all enjoy! If someone with a Reddit account would like to drop this where it'd be appropriate to do so, that'd be awesome (or just tell me where that'd be, might make an account just to post this).
*Turns out this was sped up slightly to get past the automatic copyright detection, but by the time I bothered to check I was so far along in the edit I felt it wasn't worth it.
Can we ask for adaptations that don't suck? I enjoyed Battlefield Earth and think if someone reasonable got a hold of it, they'd chuck the correct half of the source material and we'd have a good political thriller on our hands.
I'd like to see a film adaptation of Diablo, in the vein of the novels - other stories in the world of Sanctuary. I don't know how well it'd work but the idea may have merit.
Allan Steele's Coyote trilogy is a television series waiting to happen, AMC or HBO. Especially the first book/season wouldn't need a ton of sci-fi production value, as most of it takes place in a virgin planet's wilderness. CG animals (particularly the boids) are a must, but it's not a constant thing.
Though I don't plan on doing full Let's Play videos for it, I did record a video in Elite: Dangerous a couple days ago. In the forum for the game, three times were set up on the 12th, Lincoln's birthday, to meet outside of the station named after him.
The game isn't on centralized servers, instead managing peer-to-peer connections for small groups of people to see each other. My particular time (first video) I didn't get anybody in my instance. Another instance got eight or nine, which is a lot. I really enjoyed the second video posted here; CMDR Virgil Kyle was at two different meetups and read the Gettysburg Address at each.
Your, "We'll be right back," Twitch slide came up and I was like, "It's over already?" I seriously wiggled the mouse to see if that was the end of the video
