Topic: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

So, I've been checking out too much cover collabs on youtube for my own good, including "walk off the earth" stuff, and I've gotten inspired.

I pitched the idea in the chat, and I know both Saniss and Teague are interested. The latter might not get around to it due to time constraints, but Saniss is up for it, and knowing all of you are capable of helping out one way or another, I'd like you to join in.

What song would we do, you asked? "Castle of Glass" by Linkin Park.
Why? It's a beautiful song with several tracks, and it's not classical LP either. It's pretty laid back.

EDIT:
I'm up for suggestions for songs, too. Granted I'll be able to throw vocals at it, of course.

What songs I'm *currently* in the mood for, for example:
Linkin Park - Castle of Glass
All-American Rejects - Another Heart Calls(A tad complicated this one, but calls for a second vocalist, too)
Pendulum - Witchcraft / The Island pt.1 (albeit a rocked out, even acoustic type version)
Hoobastank - If I were you
Rise Against - Make it Stop
Skillet - Awake and Alive
Tool - Vicarious

I myself will be laying down vocals, and if need be, some acoustic guitar tracks. Saniss' said he'll do electric guitar, percussion or vocals, too.

Who's up for it? It'll be fun, and I'll do all the HARD work anyway. (y'know, comping it all together, etc.)

NOTE: As for recording quality; I'm not picky. You don't need to have a studio in handy(I only have a USB mic, or my Canon T2i for this anyway), but if you get better results without the use of an in-camera microphone, feel free to do so.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

Note, I own an electric drumkit. It's pretty decent, but if someone here wants to bring actual acoustic drums to the project, that's even better.

I'd like to, but I don't think there's anything I could contribute. sad

don't you play the piano?

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

Not really, I looked up the chord positions for that Creep cover - but I guess I could do the same for this. Only problem is I'd have to use Musical Typing on GarageBand and that doesn't offer very many keys.

It'll do just fine, I reckon smile

Anyone?
I got some semi-pro equipment for Xmas, which I'm getting to know properly. I even recorded a quick version of Castle of Glass with it, and I've heard(no pun intended) it sounds pretty good, even considering I was ill at the time of recording it.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

I'm in, naturally. What are we doing?

Scoring Eddie's doc project has led me to fully restoring my (falling apart) synth setup, so I now have a pretty solid suite of tools on my end.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

Sweet. I'm still up for doing Castle of Glass, but lately, I've also leaned a lot towards a quieter version of "Farewell" by Avantasia.

Ah, I thought you'd dropped the idea.

I'm still in, of course.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

I totally thought about doing a cover of Castle of Glass on my own at some point.

I'd be down for some bass action if you need it. big_smile

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

Of course!

So, thus far, we've got:

Tomahawk: Acoustic guitar and vocals
Teague: Synth and possibly backing vocals
Saniss: Drums(possibly electric guitar, if we're doing it that style)
Holden: Bass

I think that about covers what we need.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

It'd be more like electric guitar and possibly, if really needed, drums for me. My drumkit is back home when I'm at once a month right now, so.

Guitar, I can get you, of any style needed (light/heavy distorsion, clear, crazy wah wah shit, etc.).

Hmm... I'd like some percussion, too. Maybe I can get a friend of mine to do it tongue

It's probably for the best. I'm not even a real drummer.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

So, how do we go about this, though? Do I just send you guys a metronome to follow, or should I include a guitar track as well? I need to warm the hell up for the vocals.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

Make a guitar track with a metronome for us to play to. And a chord sheet.

For the record, I don't know what that song is.

Re: Youtube Song Collaboration, anyone?

Seems that way smile The BPM is 108, 4/4, if you wanna do your own metronome. Key will be whatever the hell I played it in. A Minor, Capo on 4th Fret.

Teague: You do the riff at the intro, and whenever it's necessary.
Saniss: The bridge, at least. I don't know about how it's gonna sound yet, though.
Holden: bass. It's pretty Bass-ic. badum-tsh.
Robin: is doing the drums, still.
