Bah!
Humbug!
There's more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!
Oh, hush you
Of course, we all should not forget that today marks the anniversary of the birth of someone special, someone magical, someone who has given joy and enlightenment to millions over the years. I am obviously speaking of Annie Lennox from The Eurythmics who celebrates her birthday on this day. Happy Lennoxmas to you all......
What?
I just woke up after a night of digesting awesome food and sobering up - lots of wine, and the genepy liquor finished me. Now the guinea fowl is cooking. Chestnuts and morels. Already starving.
Got some money from the parents, but my brother surprised the hell outta me by giving me his Alesis DM10 electronic drumset. I'm just gonna go and repeat myself from the chat: I own a drumset, dammit.
I wish you all a merry Christmas. This community brings me so much, I can't even begin to describe it. Thank you.
My thoughts go to Ash and his wife and son. I can't imagine what the past year has been to you guys. I can only be glad things are starting to get better for you and wish you a bettter year to come.

Happy Birthday Isaac Newton!

+1
Hooray for christmas!
I received the joyous gifts of a shirt, wool socks, boxer shorts and a pack of 24 AA batteries.
WTF, people? Can't you at least do me the honor of ASKING what I want? meh.
God Jul, Alle sammen!
I am writing this post on the new tablet I got off my lovely mum.
It is awesome :-)
I actually was THIS close to having the perfect Christmas ever, because I was supposed to sell my telescope yesterday. There was a series of dumb problems which made it not happen, but the guy who's supposed to buy it is not letting it go and by the end of the week, I should officially be telescope-less. Which means that in the next few months, I'll finally be buying the setup I've wanted for months - nay, years - and when I have more free time, I'll be spending countless nights in the cold shooting nebulæ and galaxies and stuff again. I miss this so much.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Although the year as a whole has been a nightmare things are getting better in the last few months and her condition is so, so much better than the doctors dared to hope. We are looking at years of recovery but she she hails from the same stock as the Gurkhas which are pretty much the toughest people you will ever find. Going from life support and looking at possible death to her current condition in a span of months not years is nothing short of a miracle (Christmas miracle?).

Pack of 24 AA batteries??? In a single packet without context? It got to be one of the strangest Christmas present I've ever heard of this year.

Do you post those images publicly anywhere?

Yes. The missus got homemade chocolate from the same people.
It was horrible.

Yes, as a matter of fact they're in the astrophotography thread - also, on my Flickr account, where I only uploaded the ones I consider actual results instead of mere attempts. There aren't too many of them, but proper astrophotography is a very, very difficult thing to master, and me not having the right setup for it hasn't helped - nor the fact that I really don't have much time for this right now. In the end, 90% of the shots I've done never got processed. The only picture I'm remotely proud of is the last one, the wide-angle shot of the Orion nebula; it was a year ago... But hey, I'm in this for the long haul.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas yesterday! Sorry it's a day late, but I didn't get on my computer yesterday. If you traveled anywhere, have a safe trip back home as well.
Also belated, but I spent Christmas away from the computer and the day after at work (retail and all )
Merry Christmas and hope everyone had a safe and fun holiday. Happy New Year as well
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. Morning. Whatever, I'm tired, and we're all in different time zones.
That's ok, Yoda. No one likes caroling with me either.
Merry Christmas to all!
Murray Christmas Everyone!

I got a fridge.
Merry Christmas, everyone. Hope Santa brought you cool stuff (and all kinds of joy).
Me? I got the Cloud Atlas novel, a book about progressive rock history, an astronomy atlas, and some cash.
Also, it'd be great to share what we had for dinner(s). Here's our menu:
Christmas Eve:
- homemade tapenade and hummus / champagne
- foie gras / sweet white wine
- oysters / dry white wine
- lamb cooked with mushrooms and chestnuts / red wine
- various kinds of cheese / red wine
- tarte tatin - a french apple pie cooked upside down / calvados
Brandies and whisky to end the dinner.
Christmas Day:
- Snails cooked in snail-shell-shaped pastry (a local specialty, amazing)
- foie gras
- buttered scallops cooked with garlic and flambé with Armagnac
- lobster tails with tomato and hot pepper
- capon served with girolles (mushrooms)
- cheese
Champagne, red wine, pear brandy.
I wonder if having two dinners for Christmas is a french thing only.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go die somewhere.
