Re: Top Five thread.

I'm confused, do we like Famke or not?

First you say she hot enough for your top five, but then you say that a painting of her gets uglier and uglier.

Am I missing something?

(For record, i think shes fukin hot as hell and shes not a horrible actress. Although to be fair I've only ever really seen her in X-men, so yah)

Can you imaging this happening for real, with 40m people watching live?

Well, I can imagine it with three million.

Roger, knew I had to be missing something.

And that actually sounds like a pretty BA story, I'll have to read it ine of these days.

Re: Top Five thread.

I tried to read it in college, couldn't finish it. The story is pretty badass, the ten pages he spends describing jewelry at a time...not so much.

Re: Top Five thread.

I think it was Mark Twain who said that a classic is any book that no one wants to read but that everyone wants to have read.

Pretty much sounds exactly like how everyone I know describes reading Lord of The Rings (Which I still haven't got to yet)

Also, I love how we have basically forgotten completely the top 5 aspect of this thread. It seems no one knows any clean jokes. lol

Re: Top Five thread.

The book is terrible but what they did in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was awesome.

Wait...

EDIT:

Everyone you know that read LotR is a fool.

Re: Top Five thread.

Funny you should mention that. I'm reading "Lord of the Rings" right now, specifically because I decided I wanted, finally, to have read it. And you know what? Once you get up to the Council of Elrond part, it's actually surprisingly good. (I'm up to the Treebeard bit in "The Two Towers.")

It's pretty clear, though, that Tolkein had no freakin' idea what he was doing for the first few hundred pages. Everything before Weathertop is just agony.

And yeah. I can't help feeling responsible for failing to keep the thread going.

Re: Top Five thread.

I wanted to read LOTR before the movies came out, but I barely made it through FOTR in time and I didn't have the strength to continue through to TWO TOWERS at the time. But then I saw the FOTR adaptation and was like "Oh, THAT'S what he was trying to describe." And then, weirdly, reading TWO TOWERS and RETURN OF THE KING was a breeze. I think I just needed someone to take my hand and paint me a quick picture to ground me in the world, and after that I was good to go.

Incidentally, ROTK is my favorite book but FELLOWSHIP is my favorite film.

9 to 5 was on over the past weekend, and I sort of fast-forwarded thru it for the best parts. Dolly rocks. Nevertheless, there are some conspicuous absences from that list....
