A note to everyone: after replying to this one ( smile ), make a new thread about some movie that you love or hate or have merely seen recently. We're gonna throw a molotov cocktail at this board and give it one last chance to catch fire, discussion-wise.

Fun Non-Spoiler Scene:

How do you guys feel about this one? It's one of my favorites sort of by "default," despite me never really being in the mood to watch it; there's just too many wonderful moments and references. If you haven't seen it, solid recommendation, just as a matter of principle. It's a great chunk of history and it's well-presented, if not a little on the long side.

A note about posting YouTube videos: YouTube links often start with "https" instead of just "http," and the forum hates that s. Remove the s, and make sure the video ID ("5tekGhkHgEE," in the case of the above scene) is the last thing in the link. Often YouTube will add shit to the end of the link, like perhaps it'll say "5tekGhkHgEE?t=5" or something, and you'll need to delete the question mark and everything after it.

The above code won't work; there's an "s" at the beginning, and additional "?" stuff after the video ID.

The above code will work. , http, domain, "watch?v=", video id, [end video tag].

Re: The Right Stuff

I just watched it. There's only two scenes where Ed Harris is screaming at someone. It sucks. 2/10 stars.

Nah, just kidding. It's really good. I've never sat down and watched the whole thing before. I'd seen the ending bits as a kid and I remember wondering what the fuck was up with the dancing lady with the feather-fans. I'm still not really sure what was up with the dancing lady. I did like the mix of humor, although some of it felt really off the wall (the 'who should we shoot into space besides monkeys?' scene was just... weird as fuck...)

I would also recommend seeing it if you haven't already. The first two thirds is especially entertaining and awesome, and there are some good moments toward the end. I felt it ran out of steam and could have had about twenty minutes or so knocked out of the later bits without really screwing up the flick. It does start to feel its length by the end...

I have the exact same opinion as you, apparently.

Re: The Right Stuff

I watched it for the first time the other day and, why does a charismatic Ed Harris scare me so?

Re: The Right Stuff

I really need to try and watch this again.  I got through about the first hour of it maybe a year or so ago but ended up feeling so ground down that I bailed on it.  I just had trouble getting past the "Let's watch 1950's Alpha Males!  Doing 1950's Alpha Male Things!! In the 1950's!!!!" vibe that the whole thing had.  And I had trouble caring much about any of the characters because it seemed like it was all just all one big dick-swinging contest.  So, The Right Stuff maybe, but for The Wrong Reason.

For the next hour, everything in this post is strictly based on the available facts.
