Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

On Nov 14th TN pulled a 2.3 in the overnights.   The "meteor episode" on the 7th got a 2.6, which was indeed a significant rise from the week before THAT, when the show posted its all-time low of 2.1 on Halloween night.

But Halloween night was an artificial low, almost every show on every network was down that night, and TN had the added handicap of having been pre-empted the week before that.  The Nov 7 uptick wasn't a boost in ratings, just a return to normal levels.

Don't try to out-pedant me, Stokes. My point was that saying 'down another' was misleading. As you state, the story behind Terra Nova's ratings is too complex for your original statement to be considered truth.

A more correct statement might be 'Terra Nova is down from the high ratings of last week's meteor episode, showing that it may have been a fluke, and not presage a bright future'.

Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

For supposedly hating Terra Nova, you sure talk about her a lot, Trey, and you seem to know everything about her. Why don't go pull her pigtails and tell her she has cooties?

You know you're gonna be all over her as soon as she grows boobs.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

I freely admit to being handsy with TN, but my interest is purely platonic.  Paying attention to Terra Nova's fate is part of my tv-sci-fi-showrunner self-guided study course.

/if it succeeds, then meh, everyone's going to want more like it.
/if it fails then meh, every network's gonna say "if Spielberg can't make it work, then nobody can"
/so, meh

I quite liked the last couple of episodes.

I'm sorry.

Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

Not at all - many folks have said the last episodes of the season showed a sudden improvement in quality.  I have no argument to make either way, since I've only seen the two versions of the pilot episode.

Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

I remember when I use to watch Space: Above and Beyond. About two thirds way into the season, there were sudden changes to the show incorporating all the stuff we'd been bitching to the creators about in the AOL forums. No idea what the hell was going on in the war? They showed us maps. The whole stupidity of having fighter pilots act as Grunts? An officer made a speech that tried to at least justify this, as it was too late to change that aspect of the show. This was all too late to save the series, as due to the cost I assume it was doomed regardless, but I always respected the fact they tried.

The series overall was dire but the last couple of episodes are pretty good. Shit actully happens, for a start and said shit gets real. There's an interesting set up for season 2 and the stakes seem more real (someone that isn't an extra actually dies).

Plus, a T-Rex is let loose in the future! Sure, it never gets out of the building where the time machine is, but still, it gets to eat bad people, so it's still cool big_smile

You guys (meaning everyone reading this, especially DiF) should check this out. Jose Molina talks Firefly and Terra Nova. There are also great "notes" stories. http://www.nerdist.com/2012/01/nerdist- … oldfinger/

Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

Unrelated to Terra Nova, but I just got to the part where:

In the first year of Bones, once Steven, Nathan and I were listening to network notes, and I pulled out my penis and hit the phone with it… Steven thought it was funny until he realized it was his phone.

Up until this very moment, this could have gone either way.

Turns out it went this way.

Just today I was wondering whatever happened to this piece of shit.

Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

I actually enjoyed the finale.  I can't cheer for the cancellation too hard because I have friends out of jobs because of this, but I'm sure everyone will land on their feet.

Re: Intermission 009 - Terra Nova time.

I'm man enough to say it: I enjoyed this show. It wasn't good, objectively speaking; I'd go so far as to say I agreed with most everything Trey said in his now-infamous rant. And if you get a drink or two in me and don't somehow act to prevent it, I will go off on you for half an hour about how the show would've been different if it'd been my baby — cause I'm an ass like that.

But for all that … I didn't mind watching it. Apart from the obvious exceptions, it didn't offend me. And with the story arc that shaped up over the run, I thought I smelled some genuine beard-growing potential there. Pity we won't have a chance to see whether that would pan out. Might've sucked on toast, but who knows.
