Topic: Primer

Well, on the strength of your recommendation on the Inception episode I watched Primer... ... ... that's all I have at the moment just ... ... I also have scenes with high tech talk and moments of me thinking "ooo, i get it" which are seconds later replaced with thoughts of "dang, I don't get it".

I know that I liked it, I'm just not sure how or why at this point. Has anyone else who has seen Primer felt this totally lost after seeing it the first time?

Think I'll be sitting down to watch it again...

If anyone EVER tells you they get Primer after their first viewing they are fucking lying.

I've had to watch it 3 times, read the wiki and roughly 6 different articles in order to kind-of understand it....and I still barely comprehend all of it.

Re: Primer

One time I asked forumer and occasional panelist Jeffery Harrell to explain Primer to me.

He did.

Re: Primer

I'm SOOO glad that write-up exists. And ya, I adore Primer. In addition to being one of the best sci-fi movies ever made, it's one of the most rewatchable movies I've ever seen, its only like 70 minutes, and it always pulls me in and makes me want to finish watching. Also a really nice low-key soundtrack to boot.

Re: Primer

Jeffery - you mention the dvd  commentary.  how is it?  i can't imagine it's a 'sit around and drink' type commentary.  do they get pretty deep into it?

Love it! That is going above my desk at work!

Re: Primer

The commentary is the director (who also wrote and stared in it) mostly telling how he created this film by himself with no money. So, it's more a film making thing then going way into the plot (I almost remember him saying he wasn't going to tell all the details, which might mean he himself wasn't sure)

Re: Primer

Speaking of which, it's absolutely insane how he made it on that budget. He planned/storyboarded the entire movie down to the second, so that he was able to buy the exact amount of 16mm film he needed without running out or having extra left over (I think he literally had it to within a second or two when he finished shooting). Also, there's tons of cool little hidden things in the movie, like if you freeze-frame some of the closeups on the clipboard of notes the characters carry around, there's stuff like "Top 5 rules to follow to avoid destroying the space-time continuum".
