Re: DIF Community Project: DIF Road Trip!
It's almost July.

Happy July 1st everyone. Here in the future we have indeed seen road trip, and I can say with a degree of grim certainty that many of us are not going to quit our day jobs to become actors.
I sucked. I know. I can read between the lines.
"You could put a paper plate with a happy face on it and a mop and puppeteer it through the screen and call it Edward..." -Michael "Dorkman" Scott (Down In Front: Twilight Commentary)
Replace the name Edward with the name John.
also, Dave, sorry for all the hate in our takes.
you were the only name in the script.
It's ok, I'm sure it was warranted.
I did a splendid job. I did not suck. You can't tell me whether or not I did good. YOU ARE NOT A PROFESSIONAL DIRECTOR, BITCH FACE! Screw you, I'll do what I want!
Or, you know, whatever.
It is July though, and thus far, we've yet to get an update. OMGWHATISTAKINGSODAMNLONG!?
Sorry guys. I promise you I'm working on it and it's getting there, it's just a bigger undertaking than I expected or warned about going in. Lots of logging and transcoding and, well, editing. There's a lot of footage here.
I'm still in the part of the tunnel where I can see the light, we're not quite in the home stretch, but close.
Well, NOW you reply. You're worse than me, mate
Ugh, I just noticed this thread! And I am about to go for a real road trip, but now it's too late to participate.
Anything we can give you a hand with?
I'd love that, but I honestly can't figure out how that would work.
Thinking.
I can reshoot all my footage if that would help. It would be a lot better.
Next time we do something like this we're putting in a little bit of money, using Shotrunner, and breaking the work down so we're not dumping everything on one poor bastard (and then bothering him about when it will be finished).
We're going to organise this shit. Pipeline - we will have it.

Here's a full update of my status, and where this is going.
Up until now: So, one night, we decided to do another thing. Ideas were tossed around, I think it was me who finally said "holy shit, let's do a giant road trip with everyone on the forum!" Everyone looked at me funny, but either I'm persuasive or I just do shit without people's approval. Either way.
Everyone - literally everyone - came through on the filming thing, and we got that done in just under two months. Then it came down to me to cut the thing together, and as we all know, that's where things slowed down a bit.
As of now, I have about eight of an estimated fourteen minutes edited. (It's a rather involved process, and there's a lot of it.) Previously, I was employed, and could only work on it in three hour chunks in the evenings when I had energy and free time.
Now, I am unemployed. This is generally good news for the road trip, with a catch: before I'm going to work on the road trip again, I need to get my demo reel assembled. Before I get my demo reel assembled, I need to finish one major demo reel piece I'm doing just to have something really cool to cherry-on-top the reel with. Once that's done, the reel will come together pretty quick. Once the reel is done, I'll have time to work on the road trip.
By my estimate, that should be within the week.
As for how much longer until the road trip is done with... I really can't speculate, as all my previous speculations have been off. I'm basically Nostradamus over here.
Full disclosure, I know that nobody's waiting with bated breath for this thing and I'm not causing anyone agony by making them wait, but I also know I'm responsible for something a whole lot of people put their time and interest into, and causing a delay is something I feel bad about. Sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry. I promise, this thing is really coming, and it really is going to be just as stupid and amusing as I've been saying it will. In the mean time, you should hope that I'm an awesome VFX artist and I can knock out this big-ass shot pretty quick (and my wee little computer can handle all these big-ass render passes), so we can all come together and laugh at Dave's acting.
His acting is fine.
I mean, we'll laugh, but.
No, it's fine, really. He did good.
Well.
Anyway, the road trip is coming, and though this project might have been a large bite, I dare say it's not one that's too big to chew.

Look, let's just say I'm better at spreadsheets than the talky-talk.
Teague, I'm sure that I speak for...some people here when I say this project will turn out great. While it may take a little extra time it will be worth it.
Everyone else, maybe we should mail Teague some caffeine pills-just saying
Also, I think I will fire my director. Terrible job
Do we have a trailer yet at least? Who is working on the posters?
/staying in character until the DVD commentary is done

that made my morning fortunately i was brilliant despite what the camera may show on my takes
stay on target, stay on target
I'm trying, Cap'n Faldor. I'm givin'er all she's go't!
Is it time for the bi-monthly update?
I don't know that I've got another sit rap in me, but here's a couple of haikus.
Teague works like a dog,
But complications make work
Stretch out like a cat.
The workman shovels
The snow at his own doorstep.
Before he does yours.
