Re: Cool Trailers
Yeah I've been keeping an eye out for that since it was posted a couple of pages back

Sigh, well I can't be expected to remember something from 5 months ago...
...right?
Guys?
Dammit...
Hmmm. The previous trailer made it look less like a revenge fantasy and more like a fairy tale of desperation.
I've heard it's pretty bad actually (see the Slashfilmcast review), just political violence porn "lets kill all the people who vaguely annoy us", with no real repercussions, emotional depth, or social message.
Trailer for グスコーブドリの伝記 -- Guskô Budori no Denki -- "The Life Of Gusko Budori"
Comes out in Japan on July 7. I just randomly stumbled onto it today. It is a sequel to this:
Night On The Galactic Railroad.
There's probably no one here who gives a shit, but despite it's insanity and pro-christian themes, I fucking love the movie "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and this is apparently a sequel to that. Based on the writing of Kenji Miyazawa. I am looking forward to this, and I hope it has the same vibe and tone as the first film. The trailer looks promising. However, the character has a different name in the new one, so maybe they just decided to use the same character designs or something? Hell if I know. Looks interesting to me, at least.
James man, I love you, but there is nothing right about this trailer. Horrid casting, the worst of what Alice in Wonderland was trying to do, and it just looks horrible. Ugh.
Just found out about this one, it is now at the top of my must watch list. Nough said.
I hadn't seen this earlier, but in light of recent events, eek! I wonder if they're going to delay its release?
I was glad Jameson wasn't in Amazing Spider-Man. Damn glad, actually, would've hated to have seen him so soon after the Raimi version.
The teaser doesn't really tell me anything so I'm not gonna speculte just yet.
The suit kinda throws me out of the concept, which is supposedly a more modern, more realistic take.
Yeah, abandon all hope:
It's like Spiderman all over agian...
Since this is a reboot telling his origin story (another one, woooo) why not ditch the classic costume altogether and make him run around in a DIY outfit throughout the movie. It would get torn and damaged as he goes along (because it's made of regular fabric) and he'd have to fix it himself all the time. Then at the end and after the epic battle the whole thing gets shredded beyond repair. After that someone else offers to make a new costume for him using super-turbo-nano-space-alien fabric so he can become the Superman we all know and love. Then a quick shot of him in his superclothes looking down on metropolis and boom, credits.
At first I thought the Man of Steel trailer was for Deadliest Catch.
If it's a 2.5 hour movie and he's not really 'costumed' for the first two hours and then gets one before the climactic fight or whatever, I'd be OK with that as well. Supporting character gets to know him and helps him craft a public identity to be a beacon of hope and all that. That would be good as well.
Not really an option for Superman since Hancock already did pretty much exactly that. That'd be like doing an Indiana Jones sequel and ripping off the scarab beetles from The Mummy...
Well, maybe they could do like they did in the "Man for all Seasons" book, where a kid asks Superman where he got his costume.
Superman: "My mom made it for me"
/flies away
Ok, but if that's the case then his costume can't look like something made in a lab with super future nasa space technology.
It looks to me like they've gone back and totally rewritten the origin of Superman. Finally. Making him a newspaper reporter is probably the dumbest thing you could do. I haven't seen the new Spiderman flick, but everyone was annoyed that Jameson wasn't in it. Jameson was a newspaper editor. Today, these people have to run websites or TV stations or something. Spiderman shouldn't be taking photos for a newspaper, he should be shooting video for a TV station or something.
It'll be interesting to see where they go with Kent, as the city isn't even shown in this teaser.
The only thing I have never liked about superhero movies like this is the costumes. The costumes look like something that would be virtually impossible for some guy to make. I wouldn't dress up like this at all. I guess you have to, since that's what superheros do and we can't not do that or we'd be betraying the whole concept of superhero stuff...
But why not just have a dude in regular clothes be a superhero? Maybe do a thing where his outfit evolves. Starts off just jeans and a shirt, then his clothes get in the way or something (you ever hit the sound barrier with a T-shirt and jeans on? Embarassing...). Maybe they do that in this movie, tho. The suit kinda throws me out of the concept, which is supposedly a more modern, more realistic take.
>>> Note sure if you want to hear this, but, some of the casting for Man Of Steel is as follows:
Amy Adams = Lois Lane
Michael Shannon = General Zod
Laurence Fishburn = Perry White (so, the Daily Planet wil be in the movie!)
Kevin Costner = Johnathan Kent
Dianne Keaton = Martha Kent
Russell Crowe = Jor-El
and, you probably already know, Henry Cavill = Clark Kent/Superman
I'm taking from this teaser that Chris Nolan flexed his muscles and was able to keep SNyder from "300-ing" this movie.
I am cautiously optimistic. But, only because Chris Nolan is Producing.
He strikes me as someone who wouldn't put his name on a piece of crap.
Also, if anyone cares, there are 2 versions of this teaser, they both have the same visuals. The differences are that Crowe(as Jor-El) does voice-over on one, and Costner(as Johnathan Kent) does the other.

in my previous post here, I said Dianne Keaton played Martha Kent.
BIG MISTAKE !!!
Dianne Lane is playing Martha Kent.
Please forgive me.
I can't watch it without thinking Gandalf just died.
So...a cartoon eh? This is what we're going with for the deep, spiritual, self reflective, remarkably dark at times and incredibly human story of a boy fighting to survive on the ocean... fucking Tintin!???
Fine...whatever...I probably won't be watching til it's dirt cheap though.

Having not read the source material, if the story is really about a kid and a tiger surviving on a boat, hate to break it to you but that's a pretty cartoony concept. I don't know how you make a dark and realistic movie about that.
Moderate spoilers I guess:
Also....entire island of seaweed that will LITERALLY eat you.
And then there's a whole element of him trying to balance three religions in his life (Hinduism, Christianity and Islam) and coming to terms with that. And just generally coming to terms with the universe and his place inside throughout the journey. The book is very focused on the spiritual aspect of the journey as well as the "Oh fuck don't eat me aspect."
So...yeah...BDA isn't happy.

Wait, how is it like Tintin? Sure the tiger is CG, but were you expecting a real one? Or are you implying that Suraj Sharma is a live human being in the uncanny valley?
It looks like someone went over everything with the MAAAAAGIC brush. So now everything is MAAAAAGIC! Everything so clean, so perfect, so fucking magical. It's like the movie is trying to cram itself down my throat going "I"M FUCKING MAGIC RIGHT?! EVERYTHING ABOUT ME IS SO MAGICAL!! AREN'T I SO PRETTY?!?!? WHY DON"T YOU LOVE ME ALREADY!!?!"
If it were a fantasy movie, sure great, sweeping vistas and characters just verging on the precipice of too unrealistic. But this is Life of Pi... and while there are moments of that, sure, most of the story isn't that. It misses the point.
It just feels so completely wrong.
And Tintin just seemed the best one to use, I originally had Avatar, but any overly CG'd, and pointlessly over-pretty movie these days would work.
EDIT: Thinking about it... it feels like every single frame in that trailer is trying to be The Fountain, but just for the sake of being pretty not for any real story reason.

Speaking of trying to be The Fountain: http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/wb/cloudatlas/
This could either be the awesomeness of The Matrix, or it could be the pretentious boredom of Matrix Reloaded.
Only time will tell.
I- wow...if they can pull that off (Speaking truthfully, it's unlikely, but if they can...) damn. That'll be something.
It's not the trailer I have an issue with. Unless every shot was taken from a dream sequence, it won't solve the main issue I have with it. And if these shots do work in the movie he's making, then he will have changed so much about the actual meaning and point of the story that it becomes pointless to even call it Life of Pi anymore.
I never said I wanted oppressively dark and depressing. But disposing of any sort of realism altogether?! When that's entirely what the story is about?!
No fucking thank you.
