Re: Suggest a movie!

Martin Scorsese's satirical comedy/drama caustically explores the lengths to which a nobody will go to be as famous as his idol. Practicing his patter in his basement with cardboard cut-outs of his favorite celebrities, mediocre aspiring comedian Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro) believes that one appearance on the evening talk show of the Johnny Carson-esque Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis) will be his ticket to stardom.

I too would like to hear you guys break down Hunger Games, then you can help me better articulate why I think it is just awful.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Yup, Hunger Games is flawed in that way that makes it perfect for a DiF fixing commentary. Personally, I just couldn't buy the world they were selling, from the inane portrayal of an apparent 19th century society supporting a 21st one to the districts not all home training their kids before they're picked like the seemingly psychotic kids have been.

Re: Suggest a movie!

It's not really horror so much as melodrama, social commentary and black comedy artfully woven together with the best music Broadway has witnessed EVER, but please, for the love of all that is good in this universe, DO SWEENEY TODD, PLEASE.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Cabin in the Woods? Your episode on it is very nearly as long as the movie itself, but it might be worth it to get other people on the couch to share their opinions.

Re: Suggest a movie!

In the same vein as the Dawn of the Dead one-two punch, I'd be interested in hearing commentaries for the original Nightmare on Elm Street and the remake. The remake was pretty poorly received by critics, but having seen both of the movies for the first time recently, I thought they were more or less equal. Both of them are pretty effective horror movies, and they excel in separate areas. I do think Jackie Earle Haley's Freddy was more compelling than Robert Englund's, but that opinion will probably get me burnt at the stake.

Poltergeist might have some interesting material to mine on the subject of the Tobe Hooper/Steven Spielberg debate.

Does American Psycho count?

Blair Witch Project could be good, from what I remember you guys haven't talked a lot about the found footage subgenre.

Psycho, for obvious reasons.

An American Werewolf in London might be fun.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Paranormal Activity. A great format to discuss found-footage filmmaking, and the process of a small indie movie becoming a blockbuster. Alternatively, Paranormal Activity 2 is an even better movie, and opens the discussion to horro sequels.
Scream, Cabin, and Trick r Treat all also have potiental.
