Re: Oscar Picks

I was about to vote in the DIF Ocars when I realised that I haven't actually seen any of the films nominated for Best Picture hmm

Me neither. A lot of them are late releases or haven't even been released in the UK in 2012.

Day-Lewis, Waltz and Hathaway are all locks. The rest are up in the air. I'm rooting for Argo.

Re: Oscar Picks

My question is this: how is that the the Best Picture nominees JUST HAPPEN to also be the same films that have the Best Sound Editing? Why can't, say, That's My Boy be a piece of shit that happens to have kick-ass sound editing?

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Hey, Norbit got a Best Makeup nomination. Anything can happen.

I've only seen zero dark thirty...  I don't feel qualified to vote even though I voted for a lot of the stuff for this year...

Re: Oscar Picks

What are the chances they overlook Roger Deakins yet again?

I have no trouble believing that there are members in the Director's Branch who have issues with Quentin the Loose Cannon, or Ben Affleck the pretty-boy who wants to play director, or That Girl Who Already Won, etc.   (Please note that these aren't MY assessments of those directors, just speculating on what other folks might be thinking.)

But no issues with the guy who nearly got in a fist fight with George Clooney and screamed "cunt" at Lily Tomlin?

Re: Oscar Picks

Beats me - other than Jennifer Lawrence's performance, I don't see what's so great about Silver Linings Playbook in general.

Anyway, the point is that Oscar nominations aren't physics, they're just people voting on stuff.  In the end it mostly comes down to timing, politics, and luck.

Results are live.

Re: Oscar Picks

This is ace, Holden. Will the winner be highlighted as well?

Have you seen Life of Pi? Jaw-dropping cinematography. The compositions, the lighting, the oners. As nice as Skyfall is, Life of Pi pips it.

At some point tomorrow, yes. I won't be able to do it live.

I lied. I should be able to update it pretty quickly after the award.

Re: Oscar Picks

I love the fact that the thing that set O'Reilly off in that video is the phrase "play us out". He didn't know what it meant for a music video to play out the rest of the show's time after the host's sign-off. It was something that Entertainment Tonight did all the time.

It's exactly the kind of movie that I would usually hate, and I thought it was amazing.
