I've got next week to shoot my stuff. I did some internal test shots, and by the looks of it, I won't need a green screen for the shots. The cloak is super simple to roto even with the roto brush(I'll even provide the mattes, if need be), and the lighting just compliments it, and I won't have to try and set up the screen and lighting. It makes it all easier.

Zarbs: Do you want me to try and match the timing in the already cut thing, or just do my own, natural thing?

Do your own thing, i guess, if it doesn't make more work for the editor. Feel free to provide takes in your native language for the international release.  tongue

The rough cut looks amazing.
Carry on.

Also, first line of crawl: isn't "throughout" the more traditional way to phrase that statement?

Drew, considering we only had time for 1 or 2 takes on some shots, you did a really amazing job shooting. For real, man. Well done.

Seconded. This is an amazing group of people.

Also, just throwing this out there-what if Tom did his dialog in Norwegian? Would that seem odd to then add subtitles or would it work?

Sorry, just random thoughts here.

I like that idea.

Opening crawl update:

Good news! Everything's still there, and in 1080p. I took Owen's text (with suggested corrections) for the crawl and Bathilda's Terragen thingy and here's what it looks like (with music and stuff!):

EDIT: Youtube added a white overlay to it. Dunno why. It's not on the original file.

EDIT2: Maybe it's just me. My PC is being wobbly.

Neither of the lines really work in Norwegian, and also; not happening.

Re: Zarban's lightsaber battle project

I suggest getting either a higher-res terragen render, or using google image searches of earth from space. There's a couple of good ones, and with some slight editing, you'd never know it's Earth.

Also, I hear Teague is excellent at texturing, and with a little research, I could generate something from Maya/Houdini/C4D Lite.

Need the Terragen output with alpha, too.

Re: Zarban's lightsaber battle project

Could do it in after effects with Element 3d with some decent high res textures. I've got a 4k Earth and with alpha matted clouds.

Hi all,

I put together a quick edit to start testing sabers. Teague, what method would you like used?

n.b. This is premature, but I wanted to play.

Re: Zarban's lightsaber battle project

As I was sayin' previously, we might be able to do the sabers with simple tricks and nonsense. Those pink sabers are mighty isolatable. In any case, we'll do-like-we-do on Pink Five: whatever's your pleasure that gives me accurate white cores, do that. Glows can be added to white cores no matter how they were made.

For fun, here's what-I-did as an animation preset. Just load a shot and then load this on that layer, it should get you most of the way there. (Not all the way there, but.)

For more fun, here's an uncompressed shot to test it on.

The preset's not loading for me in CS5. I guess it's not back-compatible. Might I trouble you for a screenshot of your effects tab?

Yeah, go for it! I'll PM you the project file.

Re: Zarban's lightsaber battle project

This is the exact reason we should just be using FCPX. You can wrap all files into one file, ship the file, and continue from wherever.

...but not on a PC, of course.
