Re: Your Random Creations

As much as Tom is usually wrong about almost everything almost all the time, including almost everything he's ever said or done, and also possibly everything he'll ever say or do, to the point where his entire existence can almost be summarized as the universe providing an example of what not to say or do, I agree with Tom.

Ah, yeah the CreativeCloud version probably handles Dynamic Link a lot better. CS6 was like, "Oh, your source footage isn't in this very specific format? DPX export for you."

So, no, I don't have a CreativeCloud subscription and I use CS6 tongue But good to know, I'll take another stab at CC if/when I get a subscription.

Re: Your Random Creations

Found this insanely awesome fabric at work the other day for very...affordable. It's a super nice pleather backed with really thick wool like stuff. Soft as fuuuu-

Decided to turn some of it into a laptop case for my sisters Xmas present. Couple hiccups here and there from not having touched a sewing machine in a year and a half, and never having worked with anything nearly this plush (Damn stuff rolls under the foot like a mofo). But here it is in all it's...glory.

Pimp My Nerf

One thing that is likely to break out at any moment at my work is a good Nerf fight. So a few weeks ago I went and bought the Episode VII Stormtrooper Nerf.  It works just fine, but I decided to give it a more realistic look, just for shits and giggles.

The original toy. Colorful, isn't it?

http://i.imgur.com/lPhTKDE.jpg

The whole thing taken apart. It's quite a lot of pieces, actually, and at the time of the picture I hadn't realized there were even more things I could take apart (the toy is basically springs everywhere).

After that point I kinda forgot to take WIP pictures. Mostly it was applying several layers of acrylic paint (badly) and then drybrushing with silver paint to give it that good old weathered look.

http://i.imgur.com/X7B3a4i.jpg

The result. Note that I went for the original all-black look, not the white and black one from Episode VII. I also added small weights inside to give it a heavier feel.

Yeah, I had fun with a red headlamp. The red-and-black First Order look is just so damn cool, I can't help it.

I'd never done this before, so I'm really happy with the result, although I did the weathering really quickly. The main problem is that the black paint doesn't hold at all where there's friction, so some white and orange bits are already appearing. Really, I'm just happy I managed to get it back together correctly (it still fires, I checked, thankfully).

It was fun.

Re: Your Random Creations

Did you sand everything first? That can make a huge difference in helping the base coat stick. Something about the coating they use to seal everything I think, or just because it's super smooth there's nothing for the paint to grab onto.

Also when I was building my guns a while back, if you can find it, there's these really cool spray paints that have metallic flecks in them, so when you do your base coat there's already this cool speckled metallic look to it that really fun to build off of. I just got them in the spray paint aisle at Home Depot, not sure what you guys have over there.

Otherwise, lookin good!

Thanks guys.

BDA > Yeah next time I'll definitely use spray paint. Sanding it before would have been useful, too. Overall I just went the lazy way because I wasn't sure it would even be worth it.

Re: Your Random Creations

I'm just amazed you could take it apart like that and then get it back together. I'd have a really nice looking pile of painted parts in a grocery bag in a corner.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

Re: Your Random Creations

@Saniss-that looks sweet! I have been looking at different paints to modify an airsoft gun. I read that a light sanding and automobile paint can hold better with the plastics. Just food for thought. I think the First Order stormtrooper equipment was cool looking as well.

@BDA What am I looking at? It's amazing!

Re: Your Random Creations

Oookkaaaay, long story very short.

A long time ago I played on a minecraft survival server (The KrankyKraft server) where we decided to build a giant PvP map called The Labyrinth. The server eventually ended, we disbanded, leaving the Labyrinth partially built. A while later I decided to take what we had done and turn it into a full and proper PvP map with command blocks and everything. And that's what I've been working on for the last year and a half. That map is aaaaaaalmost ready to be released, so I'm starting to put together some promo material and stuff.

This image is a render of the Spawn Town from that server, that serves as the spawnpoint and starting area for the PvP map. There's a bit of an adventure mappy type path that leads into the actual Labyrinth itself (If you look closely you can see the pyramid that holds the entrance in the background, above the left end of the Jungle BnB, the big building).

It was rendered in Chunky which is a really neat, if somewhat limited, program that lets you import minecraft worlds and render out really really pretty images like the one above. It's pretty awesome.

If you're really really curious, I've been documenting the whole process on my channel, you can check out the full making of playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P … YrmdBVUcIJ

Or just check out some footage from the latest playtesting session: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSHREC0Nt8I

Re: Your Random Creations

Although not as impressive as BDA's utopia, my brother and I have, alone, for the last two years been building ourselves a home in Minecraft, too. We've done work here and there, and we've had months without doing anything, but our world is called Shambala, for, I guess, the obvious reason.
There's also things in here that the render app(Chunky, thanks BDA) doesn't show because it apparently needs sunlight in order to show things properly, things like Atlantis, the underground labyrinth, the Great Hall, and our quite expansive subway system that takes you faster between all these locations.

In any case, here are some cool looking snaps from that world.
