Topic: Pimp Your Friends Stuff

We used to have one of these, apparently it's vanished into the ethers of forums forgot. So I'm making another one.

The trailer just dropped for the feature film I've been helping a friend of mine with. I did a fair bit of cam op and booming, done a couple vfx things and have been helping out with general post productiony type things. This entire project has been about as close to zero budget as it's possible to get without an act of several gods, and it's their first feature.

I'm not sure if or when the entire thing is going to be released, as far as I know he's primarily going to be doing the festival thing for a while. But go over and show him some love anyway big_smile

My friend Mina's an artist who goes to various conventions selling her work as well as doing demos for Copic markers as a regional representative. With the holidays coming up I wanted to share a link to her online store in case there's anything you guys might find interesting.

D'oh! Here and I'll update the original post. Got so stymied trying to find smaller preview images <.<

Also: The Borderlands "Roll For Initiative" prints being among her most popular ones, she plans on continuing the series two at a time. If there's a character you're interested in, let me know and I'll ask her if she's planning on featuring them coming up big_smile

Re: Pimp Your Friends Stuff

Bumping!

So my author friend Phil Sandifer is publishing Neoreaction a Basilisk, a book on, among other things, the neoreactionary movement, Roko's Basilisk, William Blake, Hannibal Lecter, and how all those things go together. If anyone here is remotely interested in politics, philosophy, preposterous evil artificial intelligences, arcane art, Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality, or lizard people, I'd highly advise getting in on the Kickstarter while there's still time--not only is more content added to the book's final version for every stretch goal hit, backers can get really cool special editions of the book modeled to look like 80s conspiracy zines.

Yeah, Phil's books always end up looking gorgeous. I'm a particular fan of the cover for his essay collection Guided by the Beauty of Their Weapons , which is a lot like The Chronoliths in its style.

And all the installments of his TARDIS Eruditorum series are also lovely.

It is indeed! It's $7 for the ebook, the paperback is pricier at $20 but I'd very much recommend it, it's a great book to hold in your hands.

Mwahahaha, my evil plan is working. Soon the neoreactionaries will be crushed and young Maggot will be one of us.

Re: Pimp Your Friends Stuff

The Kickstarter has ended with $14,815 raised by 708 backers, meaning every stretch goal for the permanent edition of the book has been reached! Thanks so much to those of you who contributed, and happy reading!

Yo, DocSub doesn't come around here much (read: ever) anymore, but they still do great writing on film/games/etc. and are currently taking commissions. If you send them three dollars through their Ko-Fi page, they'll review any film you choose on their Medium blog. Dewit!

Re: Pimp Your Friends Stuff

Do you like true stories? WWII dramas? Con artists? Journalism? Satire? Actual fake news conspiracies? My friend's debut novel is for you.

The tl;dr version: fictionalized depiction of a real anti-Nazi underground newspaper whose leaders were captured by Germany and told they had to turn their paper pro-Nazi or be executed. They complied, took the money the Nazis gave them for the task, and instead invested all of it in an insane scheme to start up a second newspaper and turn it into an anti-Nazi publication that would be distributed throughout Belgium.

Tl;dr-er: a group of dissidents and resistance members decide to die for the sake of an anti-Nazi joke.

Tl;dr-est: Ocean's Eleven in Nazi-occupied Europe, but true.

I read the thing as it was being written and can verify, it is great. Most important, it's now available for preorder! Scroll down on this page to find the Amazon link.

Re: Pimp Your Friends Stuff

1) I love this thread so much.

2) Oooooh. That does sound good.

3) I'm fighting the urge to treat this as a proxy recommendation for any non-fiction historical book about same.

4) I am ashamed.

Re: Pimp Your Friends Stuff

Eight months ago, I commissioned @damnitkatt to create an artwork of Violet Evergarden and the Plain Doll from Bloodborne hanging out together. I was expecting a quick sketch. Eight months later, she delivered the most beautiful thing I've seen in my entire life.

As you can see from this, Katt is stunningly talented and I'm speechless at the amount of care she invested into bringing this to life—couldn't have imagined it before seeing the final result. If you're ever interested in commissioning art of your own, seek her out!!
