Re: Cool vids...again.

A new Star Trek Continues episode.

It still amazes me how well this show is able to recreate the feel of ST-TOS. The stories these guys come up with could've actually been a part of the original series.

Holy shit, this is still happening? I worked on one of these a million years ago, had no idea they just kept goin' with it. Nice group of folks.

Yup. Unlike Axanar, they weren't sued. Let's keep our fingers crossed, they're doing great work.

Re: Cool vids...again.

Turn on annotations for subtitles. Not the CC... Annotations. It was uploaded before CC was a thing.
There are two other parts: Part 2 and Part 3.

Two of my favorite Japanese directors chat about directing films. This is before Kitano had his scooter accident, apparently, so assuming that he had directed at least one film prior to this interview, then it's most likely from some point between 1989 and 1994.

Seconded.

I love the pull-y 'oooooowweeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!' cartoon sound thing.

This was invented by someone who was asked "What instrument do you want to learn?" and they replied "All of them, at once."

This guy was asked the same question but had a different answer.

Re: Cool vids...again.

Yeah Wintergarten's stuff is great. After finding that original one the other night I went on a bit of a tear through player instruments. I love things that are just built out of pure human ingenuity and will. Like...I want a thing that'll play 6 violins for me automatically, or an accordion or a frickin banjo or insert instrument here....

I love these things so hard.

HOLY HELL. This sounds EXACTLY like the MIDI versions of the theme on old Star Wars games.

*checks credits for VFX names I know*

Well, I went to DAVE with Dan Dod, and one of those guys is John Fucking Knoll Are You Shitting Me, so, yeah.

(If you remember the 'Limp Dick Christmas Lights' music video, there's a single of a guy in a suit doing an over-the-top 'what's going on around here?' look — that's Dan.)

EDIT: Also, Dykstra surname.

It's the 30th anniversary of a media prank that remains a mystery to this day - the Max Headroom TV signal jamming incident.

Ha!

I remember first learning about this in a great story on Damn Interesting (one of my favorite websites) years ago. Seriously, if you're unfamiliar with that site, I've got some good news for you: shitloads of great content.

Someone's on a Tom Scott kick tongue It took me longer than usual to sit down and watch that one but I'm glad I did. Kinda want a copy of that game now.

Re: Cool vids...again.

Backstory on this guy and why I like him:

So this is otoobach (I guess he's officially changed his channel name to Unboxed Watched & Reviewed now). He talks about movies on youtube. Now, I'm into exploitation and gore to a certain extent. I like watching movies that most would consider to be awful. I generally dig on stuff that's just terrible with some 70s exploitation and cheesy gore. The sort of stuff they watch on RLM's Best Of The Worst, for the most part (I share a decent chunk of their collection, even, judging by their shelves).

So back in the day I stumbled upon this Otoobach guy randomly and was instantly hooked. He watches some fucking DEPRAVED shit. Shit I would not ever watch. Like, Two Girls One Cup, but as a movie. Torture, porn, mutilation, scat, piss, vomit, mutilation, necrophilia...

Obviously he can't show you much of anything in these movies, and that's why I love his reviews. Instead of showing you clips, he describes what's happening. The genius of this is in his editing style and his really up-beat and chipper attitude when it comes to the descriptions. Sometimes he'll watch some shit that even he can't deal with (there are a couple of episodes where he has a puke bucket that he makes use of), but for the most part, he's got this really positive and perky way of talking about this depravity, and it's just so fucking watchable for me.

He stopped uploading a couple of years ago, but he's returned and is apparently going to go full-bore with his channel for the time being. I'm super stoked about this, as this newest video I've posted is, in my opinion, one of the best he's done so far. He's got a really off-beat sense of humor and I just dig the fuck out of his style. I can't actually watch some of his episodes (some of it is just really fucked up and he's really graphic in how he describes things...) but he's one of my favorite youtube people. I just wanna share the love.

If you watched Cannibal Holocaust and thought to yourself "eh... needs more rape and poop-eating scenes" then this guy's got some movie suggestions for you. It should be noted that quite a decent chunk of his episodes deal with straight-up porn, though it's usually extreme BDSM or just... some other heinous shit... It's like a mix of extreme porn, extreme exploitation-horror and just completely bizarre nightmare-fuel arthouse bullshit.
