Re: Paper Moon

Terrific film, altho I don't know that I've ever seen the very beginning or the very end, just the middle about 10 times.

I look forward to revisiting it with the panel.

A good episode, and I like the idea of the series. If The Cowboys doesn't get into the queue this way, I'll be very disappointed!

Re: Paper Moon

I have to say that I have never even heard of this movie, but I love these 2 actors.
I watched through it just to get a sense of the movie before I listen to the commentary,
and I have to say that the framing of some of the shots in this movie are just fantastic.
Some of the shots In this movie seem impossible, like they really had to jam the camera
into a hole. Reminds me of both an image of Kubrick laying on his back between Nicholson
and a door, or Liev Schreiber in RKO 231 as Welles taking a pick ax to a concrete RKO studio
floor...
I know that when Welles saw the title "Paper Moon" that the director had finally came up with,
Welles told him "That title is so good that you shouldn't even make the movie, just make the
poster", lol

I don't mean to creep anybody out, but... It just occured to me that this movie's darker counterpart is Lolita big_smile

Every time you post, your format suggests to me the writing of poetry.
Alas, your content suggests otherwise, a poem was not meant to be.
As others have pointed out before, your format is distracting.
It makes reading your posts a task which is most exacting.
'tis true conformity at times can be ruinous to ones own identity,
But when it comes to proper writing, it is a most essential entity.
Perhaps I am overstepping my bounds and being a little insulting,
But there is no malice within these words, only humble pleading.
You said previously you write the way you will, there was no stopping thee
But I beg and implore you to understand there is no harm in a little empathy.
By all means, share your thoughts! There is nothing wrong with a little informing,
However, for those touched with OCD, your current format is a little affronting
So please, for all that you and I and everyone hold dear,
Let your words flow freely, there truly is nothing to fear!

So yeah. Not trying to be an asshole or anything, just please consider letting your words naturally flow to the next line.

I post messages all over the net, but I have never seen people
so worried about how a message is type out. Most people use
these tiny screens on a phone or pad, where the words are
end up just like this, or it will be so small that you cannot read it.
Now, there is a reason that I write this way, and that I will not change.
First off is that I am always using a screen that is 13 feet wide, and I
really don't feel like turning my fucking head when my sentence goes
past my natural gaze. Excuse me after I have worked all fucking day at
my job, where I might have removed and replaced a transmission out
of a Firetruck or maybe spent most of the day tying to figure out why
a school bus isn't running properly, and my neck along with the rest of
my body is sore as hell.
I that a good enough reason for you? Jesus Christ on a stick!
You would think that someone with OCD would love words close
together, being that it is a more efficient way to read and not
strain you eyes, like reading a novel, where the page is less wide
and more long.

Everyone is so worried about my word placement and not its content,
which seems to be a running theme: more worried about lens flare
than the cool content of a characters dialog.

Re: Paper Moon

I think it is a more a question of why you format it that way?

At least, that is my question. It just strikes me, purely from a flow of typing point of view, that it is more difficult to break the sentences before the line break.

Re: Paper Moon

I propose that from now on all grievances must be expressed in rhyming couplets.

mkeithddc: People keep bringing up the formatting because it's unusual. If you're going to format your writing in an so irregular a fashion, people are going to bring it up. It's the typographical equivalent of skipping every third step as you walk. You have the absolute right to skip instead of walking normally. At the same time, you should expect that a lot of people you meet will ask "Hey, by the way, what's with the skipping?" That's just how the world works.

its just like a typewriter, real simple, I type to the end of my natural gaze and hit the
enter button. When I'm on the next line, make a basic calculation about the size of
the last word of the sentence. In fact, all of this talk about it is more than I would ever
think about writing a post. About as basic as you can get...

That makes much more sense, but it still looks unusual, as Rob pointed out.

I'm too used to having to precisely format my text for school papers that anything unusual to my eye, for formatting, makes the brain do a double take.

However, it is unique and eye catching. No one can argue with that smile

I have since bought a new projector which has a greater
throw distance/zoom ratio and fills out my screen and can
even go more. It even has 3D. I watched the 2 hobbit movies
for the first time and in 3D this last weekend, all I can say is WOW!

The projector, which is even brighter and clearer than my old one,
was only around 500 dollars on amazon, its a BenQ MW519, I think.
Only a 720P Native, same as my last one, but you really don't need
that 1080P for a screen this size IMHO. Hell you can hook your laptop
up to it with a BluRay Drive, and you are in business. The glasses for
3D were only like 22 bucks each off amazon. Throw in some headphones
and the screen that hangs up was around 120 dollars on Ebay(Its vinyl),
It you are golden!!

Re: Paper Moon

Looking at that picture, I see its kind of hard to tell, but on either side of the
screen are those red theater curtians hanging.
These are some older pics of my setup, and they are not on a wall anymore,
but you can see all my harddrives filled with movies.

Now with Netflix I don't need to keep as many, but Netflix has a rep for taking
movies down over time,so I keep all the stuff thats most important to me on
them. Roughly 15TB of data and over 4500 movies.

LOL, I found a video I made of my old, old, system in my last place. It was a 4:3 native
screen. I was still using DVDs then, 2 Sony EX 400 Disc DVD changers:

Re: Paper Moon

The discussion about mkeith's line return habits reminded me of when the whole forum was hard constrained to 600px wide. It was such a pain in the ass to read that I actually got off my ass and convinced Teague to let me fix it. Now I kinda wish it would stretch out to 1200px instead of just 1000, but then it wouldn't line up with the header all nice and that would bother me so I'd have to fix that too and it all starts to sound like more work then it's worth. Non of this is particularly relevant, but it looks like we're fairly off topic anyway.

The image of Addie on the bed smoking should be one of the most iconic shots in cinema history.

After more than five years, finally got around to watching the movie and listening to the commentary. Both a lot of fun. Charming film for anyone that hasn't seen it.

Interesting to hear your prescient comments re: limits to presidential terms pre-Trump. Because not every president is FDR.

Re: Paper Moon

I just got round to watching this myself not too long back as well and everyone else should too dammit! I knew from the moment Addie opened her mouth that I was gonna adore the shit out of this film, I could have carried on watching these two characters for hours. It was one of those films that reminded me of how much I love the medium.

Having a ‘new’ commentary bloody lovely too.
