Because of what Ben said, I'm pretty sure.
Discord is great, for chat, and for various topics.
The issue is that it's much harder to keep track of threads, as it's really just a server with multiple chatrooms.

(Also, yeah, I'm happy with the current chatroom, and don't think voice rooms would be utilized past the first week of novelty, but I've been wrong about such things before.)

Discord = MSN Messenger smashed with forums + Skype.
You can create different text chat rooms for specific topics, control who can and can't enter different areas (A lot of podcasts and shows I follow use this with their patreon to great effect). But it also has the ability to just hop into a voice chat room and talk to people, and in the last couple years added video chat support.
We used to use it a lot (And tons of people still do) for running TTRPG games remotely, among other things.

Discord is great, and has become one of my primary ways of keeping in contact with people. It has basically everything I want out of social media without intruding with lots of stuff I don't. It's also probably the best way to get ahold of me without literally having my phone number. So, if y'all want to hang out on Discord, I'm already there.
