Oh believe me, I thought about it.  SS version if you please:
http://www.autotribute.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Bugatti-Veyron-16.4-Super-Sports.jpg

I could have equally gone with something like an Audi R8, or a Ferrari F-458, or a McLaren MP4-12C.  But there's a problem with cars like that, IMHO.

First you need a really safe place to park it, not only overnight, but anywhere you might want to go.  If I had to park my Veyron in the driveway, I don't think I could sleep at night.  Now imagine having to go get groceries; they'd better fit on the passenger seat.  For that matter, you're going to need to hire a guy to follow you around wherever you go to keep an eye on your Veyron while your in the store or at the movies or wherever.

Now granted, if by some financial miracle I could afford a Veyron, I could probably also afford a new house with a garage and a security system.  But I'd still want something else to drive around 90% of the time, which I don't have to worry about getting vandalized or stolen if I go to a movie, and I think that rather defeats the point.

I made my choice based on the idea of something I could park in my driveway (or at the mall, or a theater or whatever), that can carry four people and all their shit, has performance and handling fit for track, and makes me sexually aroused just by looking at it.  Also, with the money I saved not buying a supercar, I could also have one of each of these:
http://pictures.topspeed.com/IMG/crop/200910/2010-mitsubishi-evolution_460x0w.jpg
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X

And
461x308
2005 (don't care for the facelift they got in '06, or the current body style), Subaru Impreza WRX STi, in the proper blue with gold wheels.

I fully admit that one does not buy something like a Veyron with practicality in mind; that defeats the point.  To quote a little car show from across the pond (during an episode where the three of them drive through Europe in a Ford GT, a Pagani Zonda, and a Ferrari F-430), "You can't rationalize cars like these; they're not something you buy with your head, you buy them with your heart, because you love them, and who can explain love?"

If I could, I'd have a garage (warehouse) like Jay Leno, with all of these in there, but this thread isn't about what your dream garage would contain.  If I had to go with just one, I'd stick with my first choice.

While I like the new GT-R, I'd take a Skyline R34 GT-R over it any day.

Not my first choice, but you drove it over to my place to show off I'd still drool all over it.  If I didn't already have one in the dream garage that is.

I knew someone would pick a Morgan.  This one's for you Kyle:

What I love about Lamos is that they actually look pretty damn good in Bright Orange or Lime Green.  Also, if you're luck, and an Italian police officer, you might get one of these as a squad car:

Lambo Gallardo LP560-4

Though, from what I'm given to understand about driving in Italy, you'd have to be a real madman to get pulled over in the first place.

I'd go with a Gallardo Superleggera:

And I even like the color.

Helps to have a really short attention span. wink

Another fun fact: Top Gun became responsible for quite a number of young men joining the Navy to fly planes.  The Navy SEALs saw that and commissioned that god-awful film called, well, you figure it out.  Winning!

Look Zarban, I never said Chris was Disembaudio...Disembodio...whatever...  I just said the voice sounded familiar.  If you went and got your brain fucked  without protection, that's your problem, so don't come crying to me for brain-child support, ok!

But seriously, there's something about the pronunciation or the inflections or something, reminds me of Chris.

He's been working with Rifftrax for quite a while.

Here's a video of Chris doing some Photoshop-ery for one of their DVD covers.

Also the voice of Dis-embody-o (the Rifftrax syncing method) sounds familiar...?

Taking off from the Plane thread and also coming off the Wanted discussion:

Pick a car.

I'd go with the current Nissan GT-R:
http://www.importjap.com/wp-content/gallery/nissan-gt-r-official-pictures/nissan_gtr_official_front.jpg

Four wheel drive, straight line speed and cornering, affordable (ish), useable rear seats and trunk, usable everyday, looks pretty agressive; if I hit the lottery tomorrow, this is the car I'd buy.

You?

Both Iron Eagle and Top Gun are so delightfully '80s.  I have to wonder what the reaction at the time was from flyboys when the wrong forces use the wrong planes.  Pardon me while I get all "internet" for a minute:

Top Gun
The MiG 28 is a fictional aircraft, even today:
http://www.impdb.org/images/thumb/1/1d/TGT-38.jpg/500px-TGT-38.jpg

In the film they used F-5s with a new paint job.

Iron Eagle
In this film the bad guys fly MiG 23s.
http://www.impdb.org/images/thumb/5/55/IEII_Kfir_8.jpg/500px-IEII_Kfir_8.jpg

Actually those are really Israeli IAI Kfirs:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bd/DN-ST-85-08601.jpg/300px-DN-ST-85-08601.jpg

Fun fact: "Twenty-five modified Kfir C.1s were leased to the US Navy and the US Marine Corps from 1985 to 1989, to act as adversary aircraft in dissimilar air combat training (DACT).  These aircraft, designated F-21A Kfir..."

While Top Gun chose a fictional number to designate it's MiGs, the MiG 23 did exist at the time, flown by among others, Libya and Syria:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6f/Mig-23-DNST8908431_JPG.jpg/300px-Mig-23-DNST8908431_JPG.jpg

Iron Eagle II
Here's where things get even more interesting.
When the Russians show up, they appear to be flying American F-4s...:
http://www.impdb.org/images/thumb/c/c2/IEII_F4_5.jpg/500px-IEII_F4_5.jpg

Again they went with a MiG designation that existed, and was used by the nation in question at the time; the MiG 29:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/a1/HuAF_MIG29UB.jpg/300px-HuAF_MIG29UB.jpg

I would think if they needed to use a US plane for the movie the F-15 would have made a better choice:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e6/F-15%2C_71st_Fighter_Squadron%2C_in_flight.JPG/300px-F-15%2C_71st_Fighter_Squadron%2C_in_flight.JPG

Also the IAI Kfirs return to play MiG 23s.

Now I know there are perfectly good reasons for the films using the planes they did, and I'm not knocking them for it, so I'll leave it at that.

And now a word from our sponsors!

Thank you, and enjoy your flight!

I got into HP in a roundabout kind of way.  I saw HP&TSS when I was stationed in Germany, just because I had heard it was kind of a big deal, and it was the only thing showing that week at the base theater.  I liked it well enough, but I don't think I realized there were a series of books at the time.  Then the teaser poster for Chamber of Secrets came out:
http://www.impawards.com/2002/posters/harry_potter_and_the_chamber_of_secrets.jpg

My sister had read the books, so I asked her "Who the heck is this Dobby?" "Dobby's a house elf." "What's a house elf?" "Just read the books."

So I did, which brings us to today.

Oh, and if anyone's interested in the MST3K type thing Teague, Brian and Chris did for this movie back in the Geekza days, you can get it here.

Enjoy!

Gotcha in my DIF Crew circle sir.  Still not quite sure what to make of this.  I works more like Twitter than Facebook, in that the people you add to your circles don't have to approve you, but the threading and feel is more like Facebook.  Dunno; I'll keep with it and see where it goes.

I've always been partial to the F-16.  My dad used to take me to air show all the time when I was younger an I loved looking at the F-16.  It's one of the most versatile aircraft ever made.

I also like the flexibility of the F-22.  It may be less maneuverable than the F-16, but it makes up for it in so many other ways.

F-16's are up there for me too; I grew up with Iron Eagle.

"These are F-16C's 'Coop!"

Granted, that's from the sequel, but still.

Also, F-14s, care of Top Gun.

Enjoying this one guys.  I saw Wanted in theaters, but haven't seen it since.  I don't recall the scene where multiple bullets impact the same target at the same time (is that how it goes?), but while that would indeed be impossible for small arms it is totally doable with artillery (my old job).  You have to move really fast, but here's the way it works:

The first round is fired with a lot of propellent, at as high an angle as possible so you get a nice high parabolic arc.   Subsequent rounds are fired at lower and lower angles, with lower and lower powder charges.  I don't recall how many rounds can be fired like this, and it would depend greatly on the range of the target, but yes, it is possible for one gun to fire multiple rounds that all impact the same target at the same time.

Carry on.

I was watching this documentary on Netflix the other night, Welcome to Macintosh (2008).  Jump to  01:01:22, they interview an editor talking about how great Final Cut was when it came out.  As I've said, I'm no editor, but even I am still in awe of Apple's decision here.  Makes me wonder about other changes that might be coming, like to hardware.  I'm overdue for a new phone and I've been playing with the idea of going with an Android platform.  As much as I generally like their products, I've found myself questioning my loyalty in the wake of this whole FCPX thing.  Frankly I'm a bit worried about what changes Lion will bring. // fingers crossed.
