I hope the new movie's good, i'm a big fan of the original. Stone does a good commentary, it sounds like he's drinking and starts to slur his words by the half way point. "Bobby Risschardsson". I love no BS guys like that.

The making-of on the dvd is good too. Stone makes a point of embarrassing Charlie Sheen when he asks to go to his trailer to "powder his nose".

I've read some people think it's a dumb title. Money Never Sleeps refers to playing the markets all over the world. It's always business hours somewhere. Douglas wakes Sheen up at 5am in the first movie and says "money never sleeps, pal".

I hope it isn't but this might be Douglas' last movie, he has cancer.

I remember reading in the TV guide when i was a kid "man travels to jupiter and meets himself." Talk about people still not getting it 10yrs later.

I listened to this again last night and just wanted to belatedly say how good it is. Trey's enthusiasm, the guys pointing out a lot of details, etc. I love it when Teague, who straight up never liked the movie, asks "why". It's one thing for people to say "it's boring, i hate it" but when the discussion is "there's a reason people love this thing, i want to know explain", it's interesting. Then he has an epiphany! smile

And the great comments above. The only thing i can add is when Brian talks at one point about how the spinning gravity thing might not work if the cylinder's too small because G would be lower at your head... That doesn't sound right. Seems to me the direction of force goes through your body like an arrow from the top, and pushes the whole body down. Who knows...

And great show notes. The Kubrick and slit scan links alone are interesting reads. The cute ending left a smile on my face. A great commentary.

When i download a podcast separately from the web into itunes (which is a pain, i'd rather have them all organised in order in 'podcasts'), i just change the genre to 'commentary' as mentioned above and change the EQ to spoken. Then create a smart playlist for 'commentary' and at least you've got them in one place.

4.) "Ikiru": The "swing scene". If you haven't seen this film, then I refuse to tell you why this moment is so beautiful. Go watch this movie immediately.

I've heard good things about Ikiru, i keep meaning to check it out. I love the scene near the start of Seven Samurai when the guy dies in slow motion. Really ahead of its time. It tingles my spine.

Music cues:

STDs and sex tapes? What the f's going on here? smile

1) Keeley Hazell. Nice DD's. And she's eager nomesayin? It's like i've got celebutard career to start, gotta do this right.

2) Paris Hilton. Ho needs to learn how to give frickin head but it's watchable. At the "not there!" part... let's just say i was less than convinced. Tape gets a +1 for the green SFX.

3) Kim Kardashian. Stupid. I can't believe she's still around and popular.

All i got.

Good stuff. I'm usually not a fan of listening to folks mostly trash a movie but this was good-natured and fun. I agree with most of what you said.

I'm loving the m4a. My ipod has a 2.5" 4x3 screen and my eyes are getting old, so feel free to crop images to fill the square. Nice pic of Ron Howard's daughter. Ah Cinefex, i loved that mag. I paid CA$14.50 for one when they switched to the square bound cover, then all the pages soon fell out of the damn thing and i never bought another one.

If there's nothing on the screen but the (awesome!) show logo for too long i'm going to stop looking, so maybe you could put screen shots of the movie every 45sec unless there's something else to display. It'd have the added benefit of syncing the show/movie. Keep up the good work DiF.

I was thinking more like 'how can i donate a $10 tip?' or 'if i'm ever in town i'd like to buy you guys some serious drinks.' The DiF baby onesies and reading the names of this week's Silver Club Donors could come later.

It works fine on my classic ipod and I liked it a lot. More pics please, they were a little sparse towards the end. And maybe leave them on screen a little longer. Looking forward to next week.

A friendly suggestion: Maybe you could ask for donations like Filmspotting. I get the impression they're swimming in cash. Yes i know they have more listeners.

Fincher's known for having shot a shit-tonne of film on that movie, so maul your teacher is most likely... wrong, it was wasn't completely digital. But yeah After Effects (for example) was already up to v4 in '99 so digital motion tools were available, and there was a lot of other cgi being done for it already.

Plus playing with the visuals in that scene was a way to blend the stunt boobies actress into Helena's footage.

It helps when they're movie-related.

The first time a went sky diving...

3) I squished a nad strapping on the parachute...
4) As we were about to jump out the pilot said "hold it" - there was another plane flying by about 500ft below us...
5) Later, they mailed me someone else's picture from the wing-mounted camera. I coulda just died!

Now. Pick a director. Your favorite director. Top 5 scenes illustrating why he or she is good.

What is this 'sync' you speak of? Unless you're Rifftrax it doesn't really matter if you're 30sec off.

Thanks guys, that was interesting. I'm amazed that you don't use a script. Nice piano and guitar Teague.

You're becoming influential. There's a podcast called Film Grok which is a carbon copy of DiF (i'm not kidding, the only difference is he says "play"). They're ok but it makes me appreciate the original.

In the spirit of discussion emfayder: I was never a fan of the Sulaco. It's a Syd Mead thing that looked better as a drawing. It looks like one of the riffles. Boring. Discovery 1 from 2001, now that's a beauty.

Anyway, top 5 sets. Good one.

1)  Caligula.  A young Helen Mirren with real sex all over the place. Boom.
2)  Blade Runner.  They say it wasn't a happy place but just to see the cameras, the street, the miniatures would be cool.
3)  John Carpenter's The Thing.  They were on location on a glacier. From the docos they seemed to be having a good time.
4)  Casablanca.  Hanging out with Bogey, Bergman, the other actors.
5)  Apocalypse Now.  If you watch Hearts of Darkness you'll understand. Francis Ford Coppola running around like a madman, Martin Sheen's heart attack, Marlon Brando seeing how much he can get away with, etc.
