I re-read your post after the edit (and then re-read your new post after ITS edit), it doesn't appear to address my post. Medical marajuana is a half-way measure designed to get through SOME sort of legislation. The 'war on drugs' is killing people, but religious groups and teetotalers are too short-sighted to see it.

If Prop 8 still gets passed in a state as liberal as California, how exactly do you expect to win people over with "There's no reason for it not to be illegal"?

You get MM passed, you help the suffering people, you let some people get high, and slowly the attitude of the nation changes. Slowly marijuana isn't the evil devil that's turning our kids to rock & roll. Slowly it's just another vice, not even an expensive one.

Slowly the religious nuts turn their attention elsewhere. And THEN we can get the "There's no reason for it not to be illegal" law passed. But you have to do these things in steps.

And the reason *this* step isn't bullshit is because it's helping out actual people.

downinfront wrote:

Naturally the effects of marijuana can be beneficial to someone in pain, but the legislative entity "medical marijuana" is largely bullshit.

So, there's three things going on here:

1. Some people desperately need cannabis because they're suffering from debilitating illness.
2. Some people want to get high.
3. Some people believe it's their moral imperative to stop other people from doing what they see as a sin.

Remind you of anything? Situation 2:

1. Some gay people desperately need to have an official familial relationship with their life partner, to visit them in the hospital, be able to have children, pass on wealth after they die.
2. Some gay people just want to get married.
3. Some people believe it's their moral imperative to stop other people from doing what they see as a sin.

God, that third group of people are obnoxious, aren't they?

So what's the solution to Situation 2, in many states? Civil unions. Helps out the people in Group 1, is kinda a half-way measure for people in Group 2, and isn't quite egregious enough to piss off Group 3 enough that they vote all the politicians out of office.

Medical marijuana = civil unions.

Medical marijuana, from what I understand, is largely bullshit. You wanna get high, we get it.

Tell that to someone suffering from the effects of chemotherapy.

Medical marijuana is no more 'because you want to get high' than medical morphine is.

Sure, there are people gaming the system, but there are always people gaming the system. That's why we have licensing for doctors.

I have never seen the Moon poster without all that banding going on. Think it's intentional?

Skynet knows about Kyle Reese because the future Terminators sent a Terminator back in time to the Present Day (Future) Terminators to tell them they need to kill Kyle in this time before Kyle can get sent back in time and then they'll have to send another Terminator back in time to kill him.

Or.

Or something.

tend to let episodes stack up and then listen to them in a marathon session, but I have to keep going in and selecting the next episode.

You can just set a smart playlist whose perimeters are 'Down In Front' and 'Podcast.' New episodes will be automatically added, and then you can just play the playlist all the way through without stopping.

But then again, can't underestimate how much you can learn about light and composition from shooting stills in manual with a prime lens.

You gotta eventually move out of that, though. I know people who don't have any idea what changing the length of a lens does to photos. They repeat 'if you want to see a subject closer, move closer' like it's a mantra.

Reminds me a bit of piano players who learned the Suzuki method. If they hear a piece of music five times, they can reproduce it perfectly, but if you put a page of music in front of them, they have no idea what to do.

I think Teague has a copy.

He should have pushed hard and gotten Leo or Josh Jackson. He had the money, but he was too cheap.

Why would you use iTunes if you didn't have an iPod?

I enjoyed this commentary a lot. Can't wait for ROTJ.

It actually convinced me to go back and watch the original 1980 ESB. I haven't seen it since probably 96 (THX VHS FTW), and, well…I kinda missed the changes made in the SE, and especially the DVD. Cloud City is SO opened up. I don't think the extra wampa stuff was necessary, but I like the rest of it. Can't wait to see what Lucas does with the Blurrys.

Blurries?

Referring to the entire apocalypse as "Armageddon" is akin to titling a war movie that takes place in the modern day Middle East "Gettysburg"

Actually, that's a genius idea. More so if there hadn't been a movie with that title already. How about 'Waterloo' for a space movie about a disastrous battle. Or how about 'Normandy.' That'd be a great title.

Best William Finctner role: Strange Days, where he plays the one of a pair of evil cops who gets no lines or really any screen time where he's in focus. He spends the whole movie giving extras, our hero, but mostly extras, that Finctner glare.

OK. So somebody posted the 'Strange Days' trailer? So I watched the film? Whoa. That was an incredible movie. Can't believe it's been so ignored.
