Elfman, Batman?
A bit more...recent.
Ok, hint: The composer works film and television, usually on the director's projects.
No hits yet.
Ok, guess I'm up...?
Baaaa, da da da dum, Baaaa, da da da dum, Baaaa, da da da da daaaa, daaaa, Baaaa, da da da dum, Baaaa, da da da dum, Baaaa, da da da da DAAAA, daaaa
Um, Star Wars?
I just remembered this, and I'm surprised it never came up during the commentary.
Gimme a couple weeks or so to get re-situated (moving soon), but I'm on a Mac, and I'd be happy to take a crack at an iOS version, or at least help.
Invid (and everyone else for that matter): here's the deal with the file this week; usually what happens is Teague puts together the mp3, and sends it to me to m4a-ize. If you look at the bit rates for the mp3s of past shows, they're kind of all over the place; Garageband exports the m4a at 64 kbps. On average, the m4as we usually push to iTunes are half the size of the mp3s, and personally I don't notice any difference in fidelity. There may be behind the scenes issues having to do with required bit rates for the Flash player, but I am not privy to those details.
This week I volunteered to do the rip from Justin.tv, and rather than tossing files back and forth all weekend, I just did the mixing myself, so when it came time to export, I decided the default 128 kbps would be best given how much was already lost in the compression from the Justin.tv feed.
This is also where I apologize for no m4a this week; I rather famously said to myself "How hard could it be..." and spent the entire day putting the mp3 together, leaving me with no time to do the enhancement.
As for the movie...
Remember when Universal put the first 10 minutes up on their website? Well, I am a Firefly fan because of that. I went out and bought the series DVDs intending to get through them in time to catch Serenity in theaters. I have to say, I was not immediately hooked. It took several attempts to get through the pilot, but eventually I did finish the series, by which point I wondering how this show got cancelled. Also by that time Serenity was out of theaters, but I was there day one to get my copy on DVD.
Teague put it best, in that Firefly (as well as Star Wars / Trek) is a huge part of the filter through which I look at the world. When I stop and think about it, it really saddens me to think that all we have of this 'verse is one movie, and 14 episodes.
Sorta; Alien 3 was originally going to take place in a wooden ecclesiastical type of setting, but when the first director (and credited writer) was fired, the script was rewritten to take place on a prison world. The sets were already under construction, so they just painted everything gray and threw in a few buckets of grime.
Good rant. That line has always bugged me. If anything you might want to heal-toe to take a corner, but the only racing that takes place is straight up drag racing, so you'd just shift normally. I'm not sure how that Supra would actually fair against that F355; stock the Ferrari has about 55 more horses, and is designed for racing, but presumably they did a fair bit to the Supra's setup. Dunno, I'd probably bet on the Ferrari. Against a Charger with a 528 Hemi producing 900 (?) horses though... Oh, and Vin's RX-7? Didn't the rotary engines of that particular generation really not like high compression, to say nothing of nitrous?
Yeah, let's move this to another thread before we bore everyone.
The Fast and The Furious isn't too bad; I'm a car guy too, so some of that stuff just makes me cringe, but back then I remember spending a lot of time looking at aftermarket parts for my '96 Neon. I'm just an enthusiast though, so I'm not sure how much I'd bring to the racing aspect. (Hell, right now I'm driving a boat of a Buick.) It's also one of the only roles I like Paul Walker in. I saw him later in Timeline, and he was literally playing the same character.
It also has Vin Diesel, which brings me to my suggestions of Pitch Black / Chronicles of Riddick.
Damned stupid job...
Might seriously need to "hurt my back" at work so I can make this one; I'll be quitting soon enough anyway.
What in the hell was all that hate for Kirstin Dunst! She's hot, has a great rack...
What I don't get is the teeth thing; it's her often vacant, half alseep eyes that bug me. I believe it was Anthony who mentioned Crazy / Beautiful, which I rather enjoyed (granted I haven't seen it recently), and another example of my theory that Kirstin has has either never heard of, or simply refuses to wear a bra (on or off screen apparently). Not complaining mind you, just observing.
I love our forum. <3
is it Spider-man 2.1? haven't heard it yet.
Pretty sure that's a negatory Ghost Rider.
Yeah, that's definitely one for this year's mashup.
I do seem to remember something about Angier [paraphrasing] "finally getting his hands dirty." I think it comes up in the graveyard.
Weeeeeeee! That kid is going to have so many surrogate aunties & uncles. Congratulations Dotys!
Nice catch Phi, thanks for the link.
Here's an overlay of the widest frame from the movie over the original image. No color correction has been applied.
And here's an arc reactor wallpaper (1920x1080) I made back when Iron-man 2 came out, because I couldn't find a nice simple looking one.
I actually have vague memories of going to see Jedi in the theaters. I even remember the change from Revenge to Return; I might have even had a t-shirt or something that had Revenge printed on it. My most distinct memory though is of the toys. Growing up, Christmas and birthdays always had a few new action figures to add to my collection, so it was easy for folks that didn't know what to get me. In those days you could save the cardboard backings of the packages and send away for certain figures; I remember getting the Emperor by saving up backings and sending away for it. Anyway, with the release of the new movies, rather than having different backings for different films, the entire line would be updated to reflect whichever film was just released. It was possible, then, to get an action figure of a character with a RotJ backing, who had not appeared in RotJ. I don't recall which character it was, but I distinctly remember a moment of being a little prick, when I complained to whoever had given me this figure for my birthday, that I already had this character, and that he wasn't even in this movie.
Actually I remember another such moment of childhood indignation, when the old lady who lived next door (Mrs. Han if memory serves) complimented me on my airplane, to which I sneered at her and responded that "it's an X-wing!"
(Completely unrelated to Star Wars:) Then there was the time, just before girls started getting interesting, that the girl I was interested in came to my birthday party. The party was already in full swing and the doorbell rings. I run to the door and there she is standing there, smiling, holding a big box. All I remember is grabbing the box, running into the living room with it and tearing the paper off. I got about halfway through when I was hauled to my feet and dragged to the door to apologize to this poor girl who was, naturally, in tears. I'm pretty sure she went home, and never spoke to me again. Can't say I blame her. Nicole, if you're reading this, I am so sorry.
So yeah, I was pretty much a dick as a kid.
Bond would be great, but it's such a can of worms. There have been how many "Bonds" and how many directors? I'm all for it, but short of doing all of them, choosing one would be a challenge.
It's in the notes in the file, but I'd just like to reiterate something here. Tony says that the mk1 chest-piece can generate 3 Gigajoules of energy per second, or 3 GJ/s. 1 J/s = 1 Watt, so the mk1 can generate 3 GW (that's what the hell a Gigawatt is), or about the same as this nuclear power plant in Belgium (I can only imagine what the mk2 chest-piece or the full sized arc reactor generate).
Imagine a fan fiction with an Iron Man / Back to the Future crossover; Doc invents the Flux Capacitor, Tony steals the idea, and uses the existing arc reactor technology to travel through time. But Doc still has the Delorean, and finds Tony in time (so to speak), and has to steal the arc reactor to power it, so he can set things right. Could work.
...I'll probably fall off the wagon sooner or later, succumbing to curiosity in a moment of weakness, but for now my resolve remains strong.
That happened to me a week or two ago with G.I. Joe. It's on Netflix streaming; I wouldn't have gone out and rented it, but if all I've got to do is click a button, I'm more willing to give a bad movie a chance. It was alright, a bit too heavy with character flashbacks, and a lot of badly gratuitous action movie tropes, but for the most part the cast realize what movie they're making. There were a couple of interesting ideas dealing specifically with, well, the "rise" or origin of Cobra, nice setups and call backs. Wasn't left feeling like I'd wasted two hours of my life, but I don't feel compelled to ever watch it again.
