I felt theatrical was a punch long, so I'm not sure if directors cut exacerbates the problem or ties it together into a better flow.

O Brother Where Art Thou is in my top 3 all time favorite movies.
Gail SImone's The Movement probably qualifies.
My thing is, if you sign your book to be adapted into a movie, YOU'RE NOT MAKING THE MOVIE, they are. Therefore, your right to complain is a bit minimized. If you don't want it fucked with, don't sell the rights.
Die Hard
By all actual documentation, PL Travers was NEVER going to be happy with any version of it. She never wanted to make it into a movie and only relented because she needed money. Walt was a ridiculous fan and wanted to do right by it. I'm wont to defend Disney often, but I think she was so disgusted with herself by selling out that any movie would have been fruit from a poisoned tree.
THAT'S RIGHT!
Oh.....oh wow you guys.
Kind of a preview for 2014, and a future Intermission episode, but I've reading some Black List scripts this year, and holy SHIT was I impressed with HOLLAND, MICHIGAN. Don't want to say much more than that for obvious reasons, but that is a solid read.
White Christmas, Elf, Mickey's CHristmas Carol, Wonderful Life.
I think it was Jackman's best performance to date.
Agent Coulson got his Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from my old coach, Renato Magno.
No, I called it. Remember? "I think Buddhists are necessarily Ravenclaw."
But I'm Hufflepuff.
You did? I was so sleep deprived I don't remember.
I finally went to Pottermore and got my ass sorted.
Dorkman and I are homies...
HUFFLEPUFF, MOTHERFUCKER!
I know you're not actively trying to convince anyone of that theory, but I still don't buy it by a longshot. Mostly because I am familiar enough with Dan Clowes to confidently say that this sort of high concept performance art is the complete inverse of his character.
Also, and lets remind ourselves of this, this screened at Cannes almost 18 months ago. If this was artist commentary, the moment to unveil The Prestige came and went. The fact of the matter is, Shia has been accused of this before. So as disappointing and sad as this is, Occam's razor says it's more in Shia's character to steal than it is for Dan Clowes to be the Jerry Lawler to Shia's Andy Kaufman.
One last thing. This:
Clowes got his name way out into the otherwise-wouldn't-have-heard-of-him-world with a well-received film adaptation
Dan wasn't exactly toiling in obscurity. There's a reason why people like Patton Oswalt, Wil Wheaton, Diablo Cody and a mess of other artists we all like rushed to Clowes's defense: because he's been pretty damn influential to many. As for him somehow being lucky to have something adapted, he's been there. Ghost World and American Splendor were largely well received and Clowes is fairly savvy in knowing which of his works is adaptable and which is not. Clowes has been quite comfortable in where his work stands and he certainly didn't need Shia doing this.
Much of your criticism is phalanxed by either your own personal expectations or context to other films. That's not exactly how film criticism works, nor is it a direct answer to the question of worst Bond movie. Moonraker is completely silly and Die Another Day fairly pointless. QoS is at least doing something. You may not like the set pieces, but it's shot beautifully, features pretty consistent editing, and textured performance by Craig. It's not my favorite Bond, but far, far from the worst.
I just want to take this opportunity to once again slam Quantum of Solace as the worst Bond movie ever made. The action was utterly incomprehensible bullshit and it is for that reason I refuse to see World War Z unless someone else is picking up the alcohol tab.
So you've seen every other Bond movie? Because there are FAR worse.
I have no urge to click that link and rub it in. Nothing about this situation is funny to me. I take no joy from mocking Shia right now. He got busted, he's paying the price. Friend of the show David Stripinis wrote this last night on twitter and I couldn't agree more.
"We have an entire generation coming that has no respect for IP.
Expect more, and worse."
The first photo I couldn't really see but the second one made it clearer
Let's also be clear: this wasn't a one off passion project that Shia uploaded for feedback. This thing played at Cannes in 2012.
Maybe I'm partial to the medium but I'm getting fucking tired of Comic Book writers getting fucked every time their work hits a screen. Ed Brubaker, the guy who created the Winter Soldier character is not going to see a dime or even a screen credit when the next Captain America hits the screen. Shia knows better.
Now he's getting warmer....
Yeah. Patton bit the nail on the head. Even if he had credited Clowes, maybe Clowes didn't WANT this adapted. It's not Shia's place to do this without permission. Again, no winners here. Whole thing just sucks.
Yeah, I didn't get really pissed about it until after his half hearted, aw-shucks apology. Of it was just similar I could forgive but it's so much more than that. And he's a smart dude so plant me firmly in the "baffled," camp.
I'd be willing to bet the comic artist would've let him do it for free, and happily, if he'd just asked and given credit where due.
Maybe. Clowes is hit and miss with adaptations. He was cool with Ghost Workd but I know he's blocked other stuff. It's just so crazy because Shia has specifically referenced Clowes before in interviews. Whole thing is just super disappointing.
Inspiration is one thing, LIFTING WHOLE LINES OF DIALOGUE AND IMAGES DOWN TO THE FRAME, is fucking stealing. I, much like Shia, am a fan of Daniel Clowes. I, much like Shia, read the original comic. I'm sorry but this is beyond inspiration. You having similar opinions on Surrogates to Cracked is one thing, but if you on our podcast literally read Cracked's description of the movie and did not credit them, you would be stealing too.
I like Shia a lot, I have respected his work. But the evidence here is damning. I highly recommend watching his film and reading the aforementioned book. It dispels any idea that Shia was "inspired."
