Who listens to a commentary about a movie he hates?
Huh? It's a podcast, not a Blu-Ray.
Does Peter Weir still know good from bad, and does he still possess enough self-honesty to tell the difference?
Well, I've been questioning both of those since M&C was released, so I think the real question is, has seven years of vacation done him any good?
I hated this movie, and the commentary did nothing, absolutely nothing, to change my mind about it. It was like a really really boring episode of TNG, only not in space so it's cool, but on water so it's boring and ugly.
So in a fit of nostalgia at the season finale of SGU, and needing something to do for the next three months until season 2, I threw in the original Stargate film (pretty bad), and then the SG-1 pilot (worse). OK, so that was a failure. I wanted to check out some of the show, though, and especially find out about this Lucian Alliance and Icarus Base, etc. So I've been watching season 9, which is actually pretty awesome. I like Ben Browder, and I'm glad that the Egyptian thing finally wore off.
But is there anything else in SG-1 I should skip back and watch? Is there like a good progression, 4-7 episodes from each season, that would get me a good portion of the plot, and tell me who is who?
And are Atlantis and Infinity worth watching at all? My gut tells me no, but I'm open to suggestions. What about the TV movies, too. I remember trying to watch Continuum, and not liking it, but that was a while ago.
Also: general Stargate discussion: go!
And Brian calls his Eddie Doty.
OK, that was pretty awesome. As I told brian, it's like the best episode of Fringe ever. I can't say I was terribly scared, but it's the middle of the day, and 80s puppet effects just aren't what they used to be.
I know this is going to break Trey's heart, but this is a film just begging to be remade (again). Give it to someone like Darabont, who really knows how to use CGI properly.
Oh, and why did Kurt Russell ever shave off that beard? He needs to grow it back, and then do a guest arc on Stargate: Universe, à la Richard Hatch on BSG.
Can someone explain what exactly The Room is, for someone who has been living under a rock, or in Japan, whatever the case may be?
So I threw a bunch of old DIFs on my iPod over the weekend, and as I started this one, I realized that I had somehow never listened to the episode. And at the end of the intro, I realized that I simply had to watch the film.
One torrent later, here I am, about to watch The Thing for the first time ever. Reactions to come.
Have you guys thought about doing The Empire Strikes Back?
Just because A Midsummer Night's Dream has fairies in it does not make it a fairy tale.
That's. My. Exact. Point.
How is it structured without a point? Yes, it's a story about the Spanish Civil War, and the stuff with the girl is meant to paralell what's happening in real life. My point of saying it wasn't a fairy tale was to speak against what Cloe said about it not following the 'rules.' Why on earth does it have to follow the rules that you associate with modern fairy tales? It's about a faun screwing with a little girl. Does Midsummer Night's Dream follow your fairy tale rules?
I think the problem you had was you thought it was a fairy tale. It wasn't, it was a myth. Think The Hobbit, not The Little Mermaid. Hercules, not Alice.
Ever run into Rahm Emanuell, Jeff?
What? No they're not. The last ones I read were the Civil War storyline, and that everyone's old favorites of Luke, Han, Leia, and Wedge still kicking around. It's like 30 or 35 years post-Yavin IIRC.
I guess I was referring to these comics, didn't realize the rest of the series hand caught up yet:

You're bad at picking what is and is not a spoiler.
Everyone dies sometime, Teague. The current Star Wars books are like 150 years post-Yavin.

It's the only show note you'll ever need.
I've never heard Labyrinth mentioned in any context except 'cheesy old movies,' or 'cheesy muppet movies,' or 'cheesy movies starring David Bowie.' I dunno who you've been listening to that said it was a masterpiece.

Can we give Jeffery some sort of Poster of the Week award? He's been on fire.
Oh man, I love love love Match Point. One of my most favorite movies of all time. I'd love if you guys did it.
