Maybe you are right but this version of spiderman is clearly a fantasy world. Dorkman says it best "if you dont buy the world this wont work for you".
As for some of the nitpick :
Doc ock would want to kill or get revenge on spiderman because he blames him for turning him into the monster he has become and/or ruining his experiment.
The science stuff is kind of weak but again this is a fantasy world. Batman begins has its microwave machine that would just kill anyone it was near (we are mostly water, along with the silly premise that some how the microwaves would ONLY target water.) Spiderman can have its controlled fusion.
Peter did not tell harry about his father because the green goblins dying request was "dont tell harry"
Spiderman is a role model because of his moral code not because of his super powers. Like it or not a lot of kids have sports figures as role models. Thats completely understandable and something kids do.
i really disagree with alot of the complaints other than the dialog being kind of clunky. The spiderman movies are very clearly fairy tale style movies in the same vein of the princess bride. I watch iron man in the same context and iron man doesnt have the same writing problems becasue very little happens. It is very very simple story.
The idea that every comic movie should be like batman really bothers me. Spiderman is probably not going to fit well into that context. We will see.
The first commentary to a movie I previously had not seen. Did not realize this was Darabont. I will have to put off listening to this till i see the movie 1st.
Tricky was also married to bjork.
TThis movie does a great job of creating a very in depth lived in world. One of my all time faves. I may have bought the sound track 3 times. Most of the effects still hold up today imo.
Im with trey on this one. My basic reaction when I first saw it was pretty negative. Overtime I have softened my stance but I think i may have just caved to peer pressure. The characters are pretty shallow and none of the characters make a decision that they wouldnt have made at the begining of the film. Its not terrible.
Absolutely great podcast. I really enjoyed it.
"They are magic, thats great. How do i punch them in the dick?" really made me laugh.
I really like this movie. The visual details are just incredible. Look foward to this one
I have yet to see Precious. I just have severe problems with the story in hurt locker and obv avitar. The blind side is totally throw away. Up I really enjoyed but I can understand why some people didnt love it although i really did. I also have a dog that is a real life version of dug.
The characters just felt real and George Clooney went out of his standard Infallable charming character. In this his character has serious emotional damage. I was expecting something that was a cross between thank you for smoking and juno. Although I like those movies those characters always feel like cartoons. These characters have strong emotional grounding that allows them to be more 3 dimensional. At the end I cared and was sad for his character even if all of it was telegraphed.
How many of you have seen this now? I just got done watching this and I am really disapointed in myself for not watching this sooner. That is the best movie of last year. This maybe an knee jerk reaction to an emotionally manipulative movie. It gives me the same reaction as forrest gump did when i was 15 ( dating me a bit).
Who has seen it and what did you think?
The PC isnt going anywhere. The modular design of it has yet to be beat for general use. The standard computer may end up being more of an enthusiast product but it will remain around for along time. Anything that wants to test the limits of what a powerful computer can do will have to use this design for awhile.
The ipad and iphone are a newer type of product and may take over the "online experience" for the more casual user. The reality is that neither are very good for doing anything except playing on the internet, jotting short emails and watching simple media. I dont knock people for wanting or liking it. The same way i dont knock someone for driving a hybrid instead of a lamborgini. Both have their merits
My favorite modern war movie is Blackhawk Down. I love the quote from it. "Politics go out the door the minute the first bullet flys by your head."
In transformers 3 there will be a rich snooty robot that turns into a bently. They should just give him the nick of diddy. He will prolly have a hubcap as a monicle.
how they work, why the autobots can only be cars, why some cjan change what they turn into. At some point dont you think shia would ask? I know i would.
you guys do reccomend the plot to x2 as a re-wright which is best known as the best of comic sequels pre dark knight. megatron and the decepticons teaming up with the good guys to beat the fallen.
The main problem i have with both of these movies is that they never really set up "rules" of the magic beans. Most good sci fi set up the rules of their universe this one never ever bothers.
Ohh i certainly did not pay money to see this pile of shit. And i blame everyone one who did for allowing good money to be spent on crap like this.
I just wanted to throw in that, the idea of suction pulling someone down is a myth(also confirmed by the bakers account).

im curious about the top films of all time. Those are not actually adjusted for inflation. Those are bodies in the theater.
Im curious if
a. the cost of going to the theater back then was the same adjusted for inflation. Meaning I bet inflation considered that the cost of going to the movies was more like 5 bucks back than the 10 bucks in current dollars.
b. some of those movies didnt have what we would consider a limted theaterical run. I think gone with the wind was in theaters for 30 years. Hence blowing up its number so high.
Enjoyed the movie when it came out. I heard all the super flop talk before its release and went to see it for the "waterworld effect" . I was blown away. I cried like a girl and good manipulative movies do that to me. I think i saw it three times total in the cinema. loved it each time.
wow, thanks. Ill get the new ep in the next couple of days
The new version has always bothered me. It takes what they were doing out of context. Star wars is amazing because of the time when it was created. I grew up with star wars being the standard. When they redid it in 1997 I waited in line with friends and skipped school to see it in a theater. I was very dissapointed.
It really waters down how spectacular EP IV was when i was growing up. It wouldnt have been so bad but I really felt (even at the time) that the added effects were completely unneeded and not really up to jurassic parks standards. The added effects were also added to "kiddifiy" the movie more for a modern family friendly audience.
Hell they dont even make a classic edition in any digital format. really disappointing.
Great year guys!
I also normally dont watch the movies with the commentary. Most of the movies you guys do are very popular and I have seen them 3x plus. You guys also do a great job of talking about scenes and not individual lines.
I also found you guys through zarban.com about 8 months ago. Your production quality and general style is much stronger than most of the other commentaries out there. DiF really focuses on analyzing movies compared to other commentaries. Most try to mst3k and that gets old really quick.
Congrats guys!
P.S. - Who had the TN connections? I live in nashvegas.
Im sure they all own it, but have packed it away or left it at their friends house.
just a repost of something I had thrown in off topic because i didnt know this thread was here:
just some suggestions on interesting conversation pieces.

Love the show, keep up the good work!
I enjoyed hellboy2 much more than hb 1 or pans,
It seemed that with the success of the really out there creature design in pans lab really gave guellmo a ton of license to do the same in hell boy 2, just with a much bigger budget. Hellboy 2 looks way too original to be a big studio movie. It has the best creature effects and design I can recall from a big budget movie.
I think that would be fun to hear also.
