Skipping this week.

What time are we starting? 7 or 8?

As far as I know, yes!

Disclaimer: I often do not know as much as I think I do.

Also, did I spell The Crow wrong or something? I got the other one but there's still one crow left, right? Maybe it's one of the other black bird movies.

I rewatched The Addams Family and Addams Family Values.

The first one is a solid film, holds up well. What impressed me most is the Addams' ideology. Body-positive, sex-positive, open-minded, and they respect each others choices and decisions, it's even facial-hair-positive.

So I watched the second one (even better than the first, as a movie) with a keen eye, to see if they go against this or have anything ideologically inconsistent. NOPE. This is even more progressive than the first.

It's... gosh, these two movies as a double-bill made me feel really good. A lot of films I enjoy as movies but kinda have to ignore the problematic/toxic stuff, but holy fuck, Addams Family and Addams Family values. AWESOME. Watch them with your adult eyes.

edit: especially that second one. October is Halloween and Columbus Day and holy fuck Addams Family Values is the best film that bridges that gap.

Nah, that's an obscure one (Costner & Dern, right?). I saw it 'cause my mum rented it on VHS in the 90s, and I've never seen it appear on tv, or dvd, or netflix, or on anyone's list of anything. Good catch!

If you mean the guy in the middle of the picture, that's The Gimp from Pulp Fiction!

Ha, I failed at 22. I put Castaway instead of Cast Away, and I also assumed the plastic bag (?) was an American Beauty reference. Forgot what my 3rd mistake was though.

I am cooking dinner! Will get on the moment there isn't something capable of catching fire.

My body is ready.

(Side note: posts cannot contain only capital letters.)

I watched Demolition Man on the weekend. Today, this happened:

Ah, you're right! I didn't see Boter's post.

Probably for the best. I have a lot to do this week.

Tonight, yes?

Bump or something. Just spent almost half an hour searching for this gem before I realized I first found this here.

DEAR FUTURE HERC: That electro-swing track you really like is Gimme That Swing by Cissie Redgwick.

Y'all, if we can get, say, 10 more people to do this, I'll make a shiny, interactive online app for examining the data!

Okay, in Jaws: The Revenge, Michael Caine's character is a drug-runner. Not much of this is left in the final movie, but it is there. Anyway, at the end, when he lands his plane in the water, they should have had the shark attack the plane so he loses his "cargo". Seeing it disappear into the ocean, he would have shouted "MY COCAINE!!!" which would just sound like Michael Caine shouting his own name.

And then could have winked at the camera, 'cause the rest of this movie spends 90 minutes saying "fuck it", so why not.

Also, we should all be there for it. Because if someone doesn't show, and the heist goes bad, I'm gonna accuse the absentee of pulling a Waingro...

For sure, considering our different timezones and jobs and whatnot, we're doing just fine smile

I thought we were skipping a week too (? or was that 2 weeks ago? time has lost all meaning).

The Gate (1987)

Canadian-American horror movie for kids. The first half is 80s and ropey and underwhelming, and then the second half has some of the most wonderful practical effects (in terms of ingenuity on a budget) I've seen in quite awhile. (And one shot in particular has leapt immediately into my top 10 practical effects ever).

Check it out if you're in the mood for appreciating old-school effects and have 90 minutes to spare (or 45 if you can't be bothered with the first half)!

All good for today?

I'm fine with taking a break this week. Means I can spend more time on my balcony (why did I have to wait until September to get the most comfortable, perfectly lovely temperature in Montreal?).

Nah, it's a bit more casual than that. I think Spiro's tutelage will probably give you extra dice for any associated check. Like a short-term "learn it by rote" thing, not a "now you know this forever" thing. I could be wrong though, but that was the impression I got.

We've got a plan that we hope works. I think Spiro is going to teach your character some stuff in the time between planning and mission, so you have the ability to do certain tech things that might need doing. As far as equipment, I don't think so, but we'll probably have a more focused (fine details / dry run) planning session with you on Monday!
