Yeah you have. It's Groundhog Day meets Battle: LA.

If they explain the time loop in the same way Groundhog Day did then I'm on board.

If you look closely at frame #659, Tom Cruise is wearing Hermione's Time Turner necklace, which now also explains why she didn't use it later.

The teaser showed us less than we would have liked, but, for me, the only thing I need to know is 'Directed by Christopher Nolan'. If his weakest movie, is TDKR, that's a pretty awesome track-record, and he's earned the right to have my $20 blind.

And what's this about Nolan not putting any ideas into his movies? He's calved out a niche for himself as a director of cerebral blockbusters. The morals of surveillance, the prisoner's dilemma, dreams versus reality, fear as a tool of leadership, individual versus society, etc. Not all are perfectly executed, and he often bites off more than he can chew, but props for the ambition.

And what's this about how Nolan will spend 45 minutes explaining worm hole physics? Did Nolan spend ANY time explaining how the suitcase dream machine worked in Inception? Not one second was wasted on technobabble. They didn't even give the device a name.

Didn't know Nolan is doing PBS documentaries

Source Code had a similar premise, but this time with a proper budget. Yes, like a computer game - respawn when you die. And of course, you always need enhanced superhero powers in these tentpoles. This time it's delivered by mech technology, but in other movies it's due to genetics, adrenalin, low gravity, magic, talisman, gadgets, mutation, CIA spy training, Chosen one, etc.

That's the Pacific Rim solution - use a sword. It's cool, but still prefer the Starship Troopers solution...

American food. Maybe the marines just gotta wait 'til the cholesterol and trans-fat kicks in.

Sorry, I just had a weird mash up of Godzilla and Fantastic Voyage...

Godzilla and Supersize Me.

I just heard the Special Edition DOS soundtrack - but I'm not feeling it. There's a couple of okay sections, but no where near the quality of the original scores. And that can't be blamed on green screen and CG. Just like John Williams' prequel scores weren't up to the standard of the original scores.

Philomena was getting some Oscar buzz too for its 'important social issue'. Catholic academy members may not vote for it though.

Well, as a reminder to y'all as to just how awesome this trilogy was, (and as a spur to doing a marathon), here's a new badass epic Dark Knight Trilogy Trailer in 1080p...

Unlike other 21st century tentpole franchises, it retains a very cinematic look. The Hobbit, Marvel, etc - are all over green-screen-ified and are becoming animations, but Nolan films ooze 'classique'.

The Starship Troopers solution. Use an AA12 to blast a hole into Godzilla's skin and drop a few grenades inside. Then crack open a cold beer while watching the fireworks, wipe the sweat from your brow, turn to camera and say 'America. Back in the saddle'.

Cool looking trailer, but why are a few marines being dropped into a city to combat a skyscraper-high monster? Looks like a computer game scenario, but have we forgotten about our artillery, missiles, nukes, etc again. Is it all about [deep trailer voice] 'in a world gone mad, one man stands alone'

Eddie wrote:

I loved that movie so hard, and I will go to bat for it with an actual bat.

Talking about bats... a Dark Knight marathon? Only 7-ish hours this time. There's still two that haven't been given the WAYDM treatment. I'd contribute to that too.

Oh please, please don't drop the ball on this. Please let it be every inch as awesome as this trailer promises.

Just like Pacific Rim, Man of Steel, Hobbit, etc were.

Best to dial the expectations way down, and just maybe it won't be a turd.

From the trailer, Mila doesn't look like she belongs in this movie. She's fine as the sassy girlfriend in raunchy rom-coms, but seems miscast in a space opera. Hope I'm wrong.

Yep. And 2014 isn't looking that promising either, give the recent 'disappointment rate' of about 80%

Here's a depressing graph if you're a space nerd... basically funding for planetary science is slashed by around 40% for the rest of the decade.

That's pretty much ALL of the movies I've seen from this year, according to wikipedia. I watched 90% of "Only God Forgives" and thought it was just too slow and abstract to finish. If the fight had felt like a real fight, I would've finished it, but it was total bullshit. I would've seen more flicks but I can't get the motivation to go to the theater. I'd rent them on DVD but I don't want to pay anything at all to watch something like Star Trek: Misguided Remake or Giant Robots Hit Things or any of these other big stupid CGI movies. I can't go see them anymore. Nothing fucking happens until something really fake and over-the-top happens. They're cynical and insulting and I feel shitty when I watch them.

Yeah, I know what you mean. $200M+ budgets and a credits list that goes on for ever, and all you're wondering is where's the nearest good coffee. There's been one genuine good movie (Gravity - and only in optimal viewing conditions) while the rest of the good ones are just okay.
Unfortunately superhero movies still return a healthy box office, so that a lot of the crap on our 'Worst of the Year' lists will get sequels anyway.

If people wanna see hours of CG punching, the studios will give them whole franchises of CG punching. You'd think eventually the public will get bored of it, but not yet.

Thanks to everyone who came out for this. It was particularly great to be on mic with (and meet) Kyle and Zarban, both of whom had great stuff to say, and thanks to Eddie for the great food, Holden for holding the whole thing Atlas-like on his shoulders, Spork for the moral support and Cloe for permitting the invasion and occupation. I hope I acquitted myself well and honored the event and a franchise close to my heart. I felt like I did but it's all a blur. PHOENIX may very well be a collection of barks and whistles.

You rocked man.
