And it was ol' Ronny that WON it for us!! Thus it should be the russians hitching along, and us with the "UNPOOR" tags leaving them in our dust, obscene gesture flying.

And isn't NASA looking pretty seriously into more private companies to continue space exploration? That's the last I heard.
Which is an interesting proposition if the new players (SpaceX and the other X-prize contestants) are going to get the work, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the MIC companies (i.e. the big military hardware contractors who currently build most of NASA's stuff ) are poised to gobble up that business for themselves again. I say that like it'd be a bad thing, but I guess it might not be the worst if those corporations suddenly shifted their vested interests from gunships to space-gunships.
RedXavier, you're probably right about the formal names, but "Orion" is much more evocative.
Apparently the Orion program is partially funded for the next year or two, so here's hoping congress gets a fire lit under them about it. I'm all for global cooperation, but hitching a ride with the Russians is a bitter pill.
With two daughters, both too young for PG movies (I know I've had nightmares about the garbage smasher scene...), I've finally found the purfect introduction to the saga for them!!!
Work out a cost schedule, or do e-bay auctions for upcoming and released episodes. I can definitely see my current project donating to you for the opportunity to solicit more donations for us.
Apparently they've worked out (for the first time ever) how to get a Soyuz into position to be able to look back an photograph the ISS while the Shuttle is docked. The imagination cartwheels.
My chauffeur is getting married in the timeframe of the current STS-135 launch window so we'll probably not be able to get down there, but I think I'll still sign up to get causeway tickets for it 'cuz you never know.
I've heard of your taste for the Trent, Teague, but I lost track of him after Downward Spiral (he/they did a show at UofI on that tour...of which I can consciously recall almost nothing... ;-) ). I've heard a few pretty weak radio cuts since then, but I'll have to engage in some youtubery to educate myself to a new judgement.
re: Incubus, are there any 4th-plus albums that are any good? After 2 or 3 most bands (that had more than a few good songs in them to begin with...) have run out of the material they wrote when they were still hungry.
I remixed Incubus' "Morning View" and "Make Yourself" onto one CD about 10 years ago, dropping 4 or 5 of the weaker tracks. I can always skip to something on that disc that soothes my mood.
For the last few years if I'm listening to anything it's an audiobook. Spent the drive down to Fla listening to, "We're Alive." Anyone know if the lady credited with the surname "Doty" is an Astroninja sibling?
Pics forthcoming: lightning the night before was excellent, no dicks though.
We're trekking back down there once they get the new schedule nailed down, probably next week.
redxavier, are you going to use those causeway tix for the re-try?
Matt, we bugged out pretty quick after the scrub, our place to wait-out the delay was a place called "The Villages." Retirement, golf, and other such excitement. Picked up two urns of cremains for a friend of a friend to return to the IL. What a mad party we had.
That's part of what I'm about: getting a spot with good line of sight and staking it out the night before. We're hoping to find someone who can be bribed to let us on a condo or hotel roof, or the high-ground in their front yard or something.
I and another semi-amateur photographer are bringing about a dozen cameras and rigs, in hopes of getting a few decent shots for posterity. You know, of the hoopla, as much as the launch itself.
I'll fb you. <edit> What happened to the 'personal message' one used to be able to add to a fb request? FYI "drew" is short for "Andrew."
I know I'm at best a lurker here...but is there going to be a party or something near Titusville for Endeavour? I'm going to be there, got a place to stay already...just wondering if there's a meet planned.
I'm on record somewhere on TFN with what I didn't like about this one.
Listening to the first 20 minutes of the commentary today, I had a thought: I wished for //hard// sci-fi, so what if the mysterious sun-killing thingy had been the antagonist, and we learned enough about that thing when we reach the Icarus 1 to hatch a plan to beat it...?
