so how about we get a poll or something started. I 'm only going to look at the highlighted movies for now. I vote thatthe next commentaries should be Book of Eli and the Dark Knight Rises.

booo! I don't like these rules! I already posted my three in the other thread. What do you want us to do Pav? LIE?!
If I really have to follows those stupid rules, I would have to say:
1. Empire Strikes Back (1982)
2. Back to the Future (1985)
3. Karate Kid (1984)
my three were the star wars movies. I would watch them every summer we went to northern Michigan to see my relatives. My uncle had all three on this one, blue VHS tape. I would watch them at least three times while I was there. BTTF comes in close fourth.
+1 for 12 Angry Men. Actually you could do a double feature and the original film and the remake from the 90's...
Congratulations to the new parents! Enjoy it kids.
whatever that actor's name is, He'd have been a good Perry White. Just play the character as a Ironic newsman who's seen it all and nothing impresses him.
Starbuck for Lois Lane! who's with me!?

I think you can show someone doing the right thing regardless of how they are treated without stooping to the Jesus analogy. Having Superman say "Fuck this" Doesn't do that as much as it makes Superman look frustrated, which Jesus was at times.
Jake seems to be hanging a lot of his fix on just that one line about how they will reject you and disown you, but in time they will follow you into the sun" or whatever the whole line actually is. It's an interesting take on Supes, but part of what makes Supes a hero is that he does the right thing regardless of how he is treated. If you were to lean more on that aspect of his character, I think it would resonate that much more.
Get away from the Jesus analogy and make it about more of a true hero. That's what I'd like to see. Kinda like a character study into the true measure of a man.
I like the idea too. why not? Although I will probably seldom contribute a full fix. I've never had a movie really make me angry enough to want to fix it, but I'd love to hear how others would fix it. BTW, The Searchers is on!
it doesn't make good business to go with just a break-even mentality. Movies are a product and all products need to make the business a profit. If I put in a million dollars, and I only get that same million back, what's the point of doing business?
after thinking about it some more, I do agree with you Bullet, the film is boring because it has no stakes. That and the main character is pretty dull. He seemed much more interesting the way they wrote him as a kid. I'd love to watch a movie about THAT kid, he seemed much more interesting.
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on the dark knight rises though. That movie wasn't any less boring than this Superman film. IM3 was pretty fun and had more interesting moments than those two movies.
To be quite honest with you, all the Dark Knight movies felt like they were moving too fast, as is the case with MOS.
I find the Captain America movie more interesting than MOS frankly.
i have to agree with Teague here. Alot of reacent movies don' t have great characters that you can describe w/o talking about what happened to them. This movie somewhat notwithstanding. You can say however that many of the characters in this don't change much.
The Pa Kent death scene was done really well. We finally see superman's reaction to something instead of just having a blank face or grimacing.
My reaction to this was pretty mixed too. I came away from this film a bit annoyed and disappointed. I had high hopes that this would be the better film this summer... Sadly, it seems to fit right in there with the dark knight rises.
go ahead and rage against me, I don't care. it looks as if this summer isn't turning out much better than last summer...
other than the lord of the rings posters that have been mentioned and much of drew struzan's work, this is one of the posters that stands out to me:
It tells you pretty much what the movie is about. "The humans don't want the aliens here anymore." was what came to mind from that poster. And that's one of the ideas in the movie.
As an artist, I'm curious as to what you believe is good poster design. While it's true that many posters are too busy and I agree with Michael that many lack good flow, I've never heard of any "rules of design" when it comes to poster design.
I enjoyed this movie. I turned it off after the first 20 minutes the first time because it was boring me. I sat down and watched it a second time letting it explain itself to me. And I rather enjoyed it immensely during the second viewing. I'll be getting this one on Blu Ray. I know what I saw in this movie. I tend to think that this is the kind of movie that holds up a mirror to you so you see what you bring to the movie in a way.
I pretty stoked for it. I'll probably get tickets for the Thursday showing at midnight. This is one of the last movies on my summer movie list. I will also be seeing Wolverine. I might see Pacific Rim.
How big a fan of Imax is JJ?
Saw it today. I enjoyed it. Sure it has a great deal of story that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but it was fun. I'd say more fun than Iron Man 3 was. I'll be seeing this one again.
will be seeing this today in 2D. IF Abrams didn't want it shot in 3D, it wasn't intended for 3D. Also, after feeling "meh" about Iron Man 3, I don't have very high hopes for movies this summer.
Just thought this warrented being said. I'm digging the news forum... header...? I think that's what it's called. The thing that says "Recording This Week:". This is a really good idea! Keep it up Teague and company.
I thought they were going to keep selling CS6... Is that not happening now?
