Even if this could happen safely, with very few health risks, who on this awesome planet EARTH would want to spend the rest of their lives on MARS?

Me.

Just live in outback Australia. Looks about the same. Red rocks for miles in all directions. Exposure on the surface leads to rapid death. There's a reason why it's empty.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.

The person whose suggestion got selected gets 40% of gross on top of his retainer, as well as 25% of net after-market, secondary market, foreign, video-game rights, and 20% of sell-on distribution rights in perpetuity. Right?

But making another movie about Mars (after the failures of Red Planet, Mission To Mars and John Carter) would require even more courage than actually going to Mars, so it's probably not a flick.

"Center Channel" (because, you know, that's for the dialogue)

Muscle wastage
Loss of bone density
Radiation on route
Radiation on the surface
Just one malfunction in life-support (temperature, pressure, gas mix) - and that's it
Contamination of the surface (all rovers are thoroughly sterilised so we don't pick up our own life signatures)

Can't see it happening with the current level of propulsion technology (which impose severe weight constraints)

Prediction: the show will show training and isolation tests for a few weeks until interest fizzles and the whole project will be forgotten.

That's not to say I wouldn't love to see it all happen, but just because you want to see it, doesn't mean it's technologically feasible. China may have the resources, but not sure if it has the interest.

Does Oblivion endorse suicide bombings? Cruise did all but strap those fuel cells to his waist at the end.

For those that haven't seen it yet, I recommend the IMAX presentation as (1) you're more likely to get the 4K resolution (2) much greater screen coverage due to the squarer aspect ratio.
In other words, you literally see only 'half' the movie in a bog-standard suburban multiplex.

Oblivion - Spoilers!

Anyone seen it yet?

Just saw it in IMAX on a 4K presentation. Absolutely stunning! Great cinematography, production design and effects.

Lots of comment in the reviews about all the clichés and references to previous sci-fi e.g. Wall-E, Matrix, ID4, Moon, etc. Yep. All true.

But I'd like to commend it on the clichés it DOESN'T have...

Oblivion has no bullshit zombies, vampires, or monsters
Nor does it have any bullshit superheroes, supervillains, or superpowers.
Nor does it have any mystical fantasy or supernatural elements.
Nor does it have any bullshit 'destiny' or 'chosen one' clichés.
And there's no camp arch-villain out for revenge, nor does it end with the typical one-on-one punch up next to a ticking time-bomb.
Nor is it a franchise.

It's good ol' fashioned hard sci-fi. Should be more like it.  smile

The premise is intriguing (similar to Niccol's In Time), and production design top notch, but if it devolves into just another superhero one-on-one WWF-like fight (this time superpowers are achieved via mechanical augmentation) then zzzzzzz.

If this is Teague's go, I'm going with something to do with music? An instrument, sheet music, soundtrack, CD, amp leads, etc.

If you want to get really pedantic, it's not hair glue, as the bottle clearly says 'Spiking Glue'. We would have needed 30 questions to get that precision. But it's a subset of hair gel, so Dave should have got it, imho.

I'm buggered if I know. Is it something that can only be bought in a first-world store or can it be bought anywhere (i.e. poor developing countries)?

I second the poll option (with or without kickstarter money) for a commentary or indeed, to vote a movie OFF the island (i.e. shorten Dorkman's list of nominations). But generally mopping up the remaining franchises is a good place to start.

This is currently on telly. When the alien invasion comes, and they're deciding if our species should live or die, this film will be the thing which damns us.

The clutching the head to the chest to get a frag via the exploding chestbuster impaling the skull would be one of the more grotesque sequences I've ever witnessed. But they normally cut that on TV broadcasts.
