You mean today? Yes.
That's pretty accurate! (Though for me, a lot of the jokes did land, somehow).
I'd recommend it regardless, 'cause it really is a "how on earth did they manage to get this made?" movie. It is so, so full of bizarre creativity and goes to places "kids" movies never go, that it's worth watching at least once. I think it's rewatchable, too. Actually, thinking about how much is packed in there makes me want to watch it tonight!
The first one is odd, 'cause there's really no plot, just a series of scenes connected together that somehow have enough charm to keep you from noticing how little is happening. Also, I still have a crush on their Joan of Arc. Gosh, she's so cute.
The semicolon is a marvelous piece of punctuation; it retains clarity without need for conjunctions.
Two other contexts in which it is useful: internal punctuation, usually in lists; additionally, conjunctive adverbs.
It just occurred to me I can't do Shadowrun tonight. I'm not in the office today, and my internet at home is currently through my phone, and only stable for maybe 15 minutes at a time, sorry.
I hope that doesn't fuck things up too bad. Am trying to get my 'net sorted by next week though.
DO YOU SEE?
What time are we Shadowrunning?
Cool cool cool.
I have given this too much though, but: part of me kinda wishes Genisys Sarah had had Linda Hamilton's '84 haircut through the whole movie.
You take that back about jumping spiders, they are adorable and awesome!
Generally speaking, the emotional weather-system in my brain is ruled by a burning sun that casts cynicism wherever its rays fall.
It must have been cloudy today.
I really enjoyed this. My new system of watching the trailer once, 3-4 months before the release date, and then forgetting about it, is really working out for me.
It was fun. It was surprisingly well paced. The action scenes were handled well (the helicopter sequence was the only thing that bothered me, would have preferred models and less inorganic camera movements). The humour, I dunno why, but with some exceptions, it worked for me (and I laughed out loud a couple of times, too!).
It did take me awhile to get used to Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, until I reminded myself that this Sarah had a different life experience, so she doesn't need to be like Linda Hamilton. (Though I'd still like to see the alternate timeline [ha ha] version where they'd ended up casting Tatiana Maslany instead.)
Jai Courtney, I'm still not a fan. I'm sure he's got some skills, but between this and A Good Day to Die Hard (oh lord), not yet.
Obviously, time travel is a clusterfuck, but I'd have thought we'd given up taking that seriously from the 3rd film onwards anyway? I just didn't feel like nitpicking the 5th film in a franchise... that doesn't benefit anyone. It's like going to your bank and asking for a lower interest rate on your savings account. WHY?
Like I said, I saw one trailer and forgot about it. As I understand, they spoiled the shit out of it, but I ended up being pleasantly goddamn surprised a couple of times. Though walking out of the cinema, I came face to face with the poster, which has a twist, like, front and centre. That is some dumbass fuckery.
Anyhooooo: it moved along briskly, enjoyed the action, pleasantly surprised by the humour, and it put a smile on my face. So it gets a thumbs up. Go see it if you're feeling optimistic. If not, don't bother
Last summer, Montreal was consistently fucking gorgeous. Bright, dry, no clouds.
This summer, it has been pissing it down every other day. This is more bipolar than even London's (undeserved) reputation.
Hooo boy, there's mods?
It's funny, but I found Portal 2 creepier than the first one! Well, the latter half (third?) of the game particularly, the way it worldbuilds the past. Loved the atmosphere for that.
Anyway, finally trying Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, 'cause... why not? Enjoying it a lot. I never really played a lot of swords/sorcery games (does FFVI count?) but I'm digging this. Amazed at how huuuuuuge the world is. Logged about 40 hours of playtime, and I've barely touched the main storyline, nor have I even ventured into the Eastern half of the map. Jeebus.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: part of why I am going to see Terminator Genysis is because I half-expect a scene at the Enchantment Under the Sea dance.
Oh NBC.
Hoping it finds a home on another network. Alternatively... I've got a coupla hundred bucks. Josh, care to chip in?
Okay with me. I know I've been kinda sketchy the past few weeks, but I'm super-excited about what's coming up in Shadowrun, but this really is crunch-time for the PhD. Back to normal in July though
Wednesday is the 2nd most important meeting of my entire PhD, so I am in prep mode. I suspect I won't be available on Monday. Just, please... don't kill and/or otherwise harm any more people while I'm gone.
This might be of interest to you. Interview with Steven Erikson, who is a fantasy writer with an anthropology degree and 18 years of experience as an archaeologist. His work (Malazan Book of The Fallen) pays respect to all kinds of non-european cultures/civilizations (as well as some european ones) and how they relate to each other.
The series is a love/hate it (i loooooooved it) kind of thing, but the interview's really interesting, maybe some food for thought, or inspiration there.
As for Jon, can anyone name a cliff hanger on TV that ends with someone appearing to die and is resolved by them being dead forever?
Breaking Bad did it, Hannibal did it, The Shield did it.
But let's be honest, they'll probably find some way to bring Jon back in some form or another.
I do like the idea of the light-saber being aware of what's inside you before you're aware of it though. That's usually an interesting kind of trope to play with.
I couldn't care less if the ME Andromeda thing was a cutscene or not, for me it announced what direction they were going in for it and it was a teaser. That's enough for me.
Exactly. My throbbing erection has nothing to do with the quality of graphics, and all to do with the fact that the people who made a trilogy I love, have given me a taste of the scope of another game in that same universe. And I could not be more excited.
edit: we're talking priapism-level excited.
Hahahahahahahahaha.... wow.
I can't wait 'till Dave finds out.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh myyyyyyyyyyyy gosh!
Was not expecting this at all today. I have pretty much spaffed my pants.
(Also, I can't believe this game is being made a few blocks from my office! I can feel its power!)
It's Monday tomorrow, right? I'm not gonna be able to make it. If this is enough of a heads-up to put something together for Burnout & Whisper-Wind, feel free to go for it. But I just have toooooo much work.
Rewatched the first 2 seasons this week.
The first time I binge-watched, and I remember there being standalones and character-driven episodes, with some overlap. But now, paying more attention (and no more sleep-deprived than usual), I totally see that every episode is character-driven and has thematic resonance, just sometimes more subtle than other times.
I am firmly putting the 2nd season of Hannibal up there with the 3rd season of Breaking Bad and the 5th/7th seasons of The Shield.
I mean, godDAMN. I so desperately want this show to get all 6 seasons they've planned for. I am SUPER excited for this season (enjoyed first two episodes this season, looking forward to the rest.)
