Is magic resurrection-blood acceptable in the (new) Star Trek universe on a magic bean level? Sure.

Is it stupid, lazy, tension-destroying-forever shitty writing? Also yes.

Sure. I'm not gonna argue that Into Darkness is perfect. But if you're ranking all 12 Star Trek movies honestly, there's no way if comes close to the bottom. It seems like the internet has made this movie its whipping boy this summer and I don't get it.

I also don't get why everyone suddenly has a deep hatred for Man Of Steel, which has some major pacing/structure problems but is otherwise a perfectly good superhero movie. Don't even get me started on the whole "SUPERMAN DOESN'T KILL WAHHH" bullshit. So Superman in the comics doesn't kill? Well, this isn't a fucking comic. Deal with it. Also, I guess people suddenly care about the collateral damage from epic superhero battles? I don't get it.

And what's the deal with airline food?

Kind of like the film, then.

Seen worse...

and depends on your point of view.

*will forever be in the minority on Into Darkness*

I'm still with you there. I rewatched it a few weeks ago, and while it's not a fantastic movie, I find the vitriol that it's been getting to be ridiculous and mostly unfounded. "BUT KHAN'S MAGIC BLOOD THAT'S SO STUPID." Ugh. It's fucking Star Trek. We're talking about a franchise that had giant maggots that crawled inside your ear and brainwashed you. It's not like everything was logically sound up to this point. Pretty sure this universe falls under what the FIYH glossary calls a "Wonderland," so I really don't understand why Khan's "magic blood" caused such an uproar.

The way that they concealed his identity was dumb, though. Just come out and say he's Khan. It wasn't exactly a shocking moment. The fact that they made such a big deal out of it gave away the twist that John Harrison wasn't his real name. If they had just said, "Yeah, the villain's name is John Harrison," the Khan twist would have been so much more effective.

Why not? I mean, I don't want them to waste a whole bunch of screen time on it, but neither do I want Legolas to be little more than a glorified cameo either.

I don't want Legolas back at all. He's not in the book, and he's only there for fanservice. Which is fine, whatever, bring him back for a cameo. But don't distract from the main storyline with some sappy romantic subplot between him and Elf-vangeline Lilly. A subplot which, by the way, looks to be wholly lifted from the Aragorn/Arwen story from LOTR, with the elf chick's father warning her not to go gallivanting off with the handsome rogue.

Wait...what?

Um, Thranduil is Legolas' father, not Tauriel's.

I don't think it distracts, and Legolas may not be in the book, but given the time line of events he should be there. That is Jackson's whole point, to flesh out the story with things that were happening as the Hobbit happened. The White Council, Azog are all technically things that don't happen in the book.

Yeah, but the White Council and Azog were awful additions to the first movie. Well, maybe not Azog. He was a pretty shitty antagonist, though. I get that you need one for the first movie, but surely they could have come up with a more interesting motivation than "KILL DWARF WHO CUT OFF MY ARM BECAUSE RAWR." And the White Council scene was fun in theory, but on screen it just dragged on and on... So you see why I'm not interested in seeing what Legolas was up to while Bilbo was on his quest. At this point, I barely care about what Bilbo and the dwarves are doing, and now Jackson expects me to get invested in another subplot? Fuck that.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't this make it easier for them to get the trademark in other countries? This sets a precedent, right?

Half-Life 3 confirmed. No, really this time. Valve just filed for trademark on it. They have 6 months to use the trademark in some capacity or they'll lose it, although they can file for 5 six-month extensions. Expect to see an official announcement of the game by first-quarter 2014.

I DON'T GET IT

Looks a bit more mature than Unexpected Journey. Do we really need a subplot about Legolas' romantic troubles, though?

Brad Bird tweeted at Lindelof telling him to cool it. And given that Lindelof is writing Bird's next movie, maybe he wasn't too happy that he was attracting negative attention to himself. I know that Lindelof thinks he's being cool for retweeting all his haters, but I'd like him more if he took the high road and just ignored them.

I think the fact that it wasn't a strong closer was what made it perfect. There's such a pressure on Big Important Shows to go out with a bang, to lay it all on the table in their finale. Breaking Bad didn't do that. Because shows that DO do that often fall into the trap of being defined by their finales, for better or for worse. People don't talk about The Sopranos anymore because of great episodes like Funhouse or Whitecaps. All anyone talks about in reference to that show is its finale. That won't happen with Breaking Bad, and that's a good thing.

I disagree that he didn't have to approach him. He needed to get into the compound, but the Nazis had to be off their guard. Otherwise the plan wouldn't have worked. Also, if they were planning on killing him the moment they saw him, why would they let him into the compound if he came of his own accord? That would have seemed disrespectful to Jack.

Also, I assume that Walt either got shot by a ricocheting bullet or by some shrapnel/glass.

I wonder how long Jesse can last on the run. He's a wanted fugitive. No money. Not a hardened criminal mastermind. Just a highly strung out kid.

Maybe he finds a bag of Todd's cash in the car. That'll buy him some time.

Or maybe he's captured by the Czech cartel and made to work. Stayed tuned for Season 6 - Prague Nights.

Didn't you see the commercial? They're making a Breaking Bad movie called "Need For Speed." Looks different though. More car racing and less meth making.

I think it was the same table as before. If not literally, we're meant to understand that it is. I'm more interested in how Walt got the ricin in the packet.

I'm sure Teague was very excited.

So...now what do we do?

I hope the opening scene of the finale is Walt recruiting a ragtag group of Jewish soldiers and demanding 100 Nazi scalps from each of them.

Just finished World War Z. Wow, what a piece of shit. Dull, drab, and dumb. The characters might as well be steaks on sticks for zombies to eat, and the narrative essentially boils down to, "Here's Brad Pitt looking grim in Korea! Here he is looking grim in Israel!" and repeat. And people thought this was one of the BETTER movies of the summer? Wow.

Can't embed, but this is still cool. South Korean kindergarteners draw and write their reactions to hearing songs from Radiohead's "OK Computer." One kid says, "I hear robot is fighting robot." He gets it.

I like that Joss is giving his old buddy Ron Glass some work.

This show has serious potential, especially given how it runs alongside the theatrical releases. The way they incorporated Extremis was really interesting. I guess when Thor 2 comes out in a few months we'll see how much that affects the show.
