awesome, thanks dorkman.

that makes complete sense, looking at it from that perspective.  i think it took me about that long to finish them up as well... and good god katniss is annoying.   but to be fair, i'm not a 14 year old girl...

it should be interesting to see how they pull this off as a movie.

I recently read the Hunger Games books, since i'd heard they were turning them into movies and figured i'd check it out.

Granted, maybe i wasn't paying attention.. but what exactly is going on in these books.  It's based in the real world, in the future..i believe in or around Colorado.   but all kinds of insane shit happens all the time... as i was reading it, i kept asking myself about 'the one magic bean' and i'm not entirely sure what it is.

it's in the future, so they have made technological advances, i'm down with that... however, i can't quite put my finger on it, but it feels like it's also fantasy.. some sort of hybrid.

anywho, i'm envisioning this as a movie and not sure how they'll pull it off.

thanks

Oh, I forgot about that....ugh...It reminds me of when our main characters get locked on the roof or in a basement or are otherwise trapped, most of the time it leads to the dreaded CLIP SHOW....

that reminds me... Community did an awesome inversion of this last season where they had a clip of events that never happened. pretty funny

Just finished watching Dead Man (Johnny Depp - directed by Jim Jarmusch).  Forgot how much i like that film.

The score is interesting too.. it's pretty minimal.  I'd heard that Neil Young watched the movie 2 times in a row, then on the 3rd, just started playing along with it.. it sorta feels off the cuff, but i love the tone and slight delay he uses on his guitar.

Ya, my original thought was just having topics of your choosing...  basically, just getting into a little more detail about things that have been brought up during DIF's, but like as said above, gets re-railed by the actual movie.

my personal interests are definitely music in movies (scoring, specially), since that's my main area of interest.  editing is a close second.

Essentially, i just enjoy hearing you guys geek out about the things you love most...it comes through on the recordings as it is.

It's not like DIF has enough going on or anything, but is there ever any chance of some one-off podcasts that are concept specific, instead of movie specific?

I'd love to hear an extended podcast with Eddie talking about editing, getting more specific about uses, movie examples, do's/don'ts

or Brian covering space, the universe and everything

or Trey talking about the studio system and his early relationship with Garbo, or his acid eating days with Grant (seriously, the dude loved the stuff).

good/bad CGI choices... etc.

Just a thought... I guess it'd be similar to some of the older Geekza podcasts, but with that new DIF smell.

given that 'the amazing' was raised by wolves... i'd be quite surprised.

I also love Hot Rod... but I also saw Rad more times than was healthy as a little kid.

no idea on what you do and don't know, but here's some (some classics, some randoms):

Young Frankenstein
Where the Buffalo Roam
Trading Places
Top Secret
Three Amigos
Repo Man
The Police Squad (TV show - pre Naked Gun movies)
Fish Called Wanda
Spinal Tap
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (dated at this point, but still has some solid bits)
Brewster’s Millions

just saw it last night.  it's...a movie.

my overall feeling is the same as the previous movies... just a bit too long.

the movie itself is incredible looking, great sets, costumes, etc, but the story wasn't all that compelling.

and ya, the priest/mermaid thing was odd.

just re listened to this commentary on a flight and was reminded of this awesome bit from funny or die... it's Drunk History (most are pretty funny), but this one is about Tesla vs. Edison (and about what a dick Edison was).

(it looks like i'm not bright enough to embed this....but i'm going to blame edison for that)

Wait...how have i been listening this long and not realized that Teague has never watched the Simpsons?  Did i block it out? Was there a giant cover up and it just leaked on this commentary?

How's this happen?  i thought we had rules about stuff...Simpsons being required viewing for all.
i'm not that old..I mean,  I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

Agreed... Also Ween's White Pepper is a fantastic frickin' album, plus the production on it is outstanding.
Always love a good schizophrenic album.

ever thought of doing Moulin Rouge?  It's sorta a musical, with one of the strongest opening sequences I've ever seen.

funny, i've never seen the entire movie, but after my wife watched it, she forced me to sit down and watch the open 10-15 minutes... I have no idea what happens after that, but that opening is really cool

I recently fell back into the 90s and have been listening to:

NIN - Downward Spiral
Sublime - Sublime
Soundgarden - Superunknown

it'd been a while since i listened to any of those and had forgotten how great they are

Zardoz teaches such important life lessons..

"The gun is good. The penis is evil. The penis shoots seeds, and makes new life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was, but the gun shoots death, and purifies the Earth of the filth of brutals. Go forth . . . and kill!"

that's just good science

Zarban - I just rewatched the original The Taking of Pelham One Two Three and i think there's at least 2 out of 3 of those.  The drunk women who sleeps through the whole thing, the angry black captain... plus, it's got jerry stiller and walter matthau...good stuff

Just to add balance to the equation, I've been known to drink beer and eat burritos while listening to DIf...so you're also making skinny people fatter

re: HGTTG

When the scene in front of the bulldozer went down ("it was in a cellar"), i realized that the movie wasn't going to be the book and just accepted it as an adaptation.  That moment was so jarring from the original text that my suspension of disbelief turned into a suspension of novel belief and decided 'screw it, i'll just accept this movie for what it is'.

i'm sure that wasn't the intention of that scene, but that's what it did for me.

Basically it's the Mexican, non-union equivalent version of the story..if you will.
