For some reason the episode list is only going down to Little Shop of Horrors. I have a slow connection, but when I do a search for the missing episodes the covers pop up instantly so they were in fact downloaded but not displayed. Safari 5.1

Also, I can't remember where (because Tarantino will talk to anyone with ears), but I've heard QT say he has created two movie universes.  One for Pulp and Dogs and one for KB, Death Proof and maybe Basterds (not sure which universe that is).  He describes KB and Death Proof as the movies that Jules, Mr. Pink, Vega, etc see in theaters.  I guess its the same universe, one just subsumes another.

I admit I find that kind of thing hilarious. A similar thing has been said in the anime world about the various Macross shows by the creator. The various TV series and Macross Plus are "real", the Macross movie is a Hollywood version of the real events of the first series which those characters would have seen in theaters, and Macross II is just bad fiction from that world smile

The idea of unrelated movies existing in the same fictional universe is a fun one. I remember as a kid my older cousin gave me the novelizations of both Alien and Outland (both written by Alan Dean Foster). To me it seemed like they were related somehow, what with the evil corporations and similar space tech, and I loved the idea of more movies set in this same universe. Never happened, naturally.

It's obviously mostly an experiment as to how much work fans are willing to do, which later will be put to even more productive work smile

And, given Apple is one of the few companies that plan long term projects, it would probably be half a decade before we saw real post-Jobs products.

(It wouldn't surprise me at all if, when Jobs came back to Apple, first thing he said was, "I want to make a tablet. What do we have to learn to do right before we can do that, and what products can those steps be made into to test them and get the public ready?" This would have given us iPods [form factor and controls], iTunes [syncing], Airport [wireless], iMac [computer behind a monitor],and iPhone [touchscreen])

I assume it's your auto correct, as mine recognizes spelt while typing this message (unless the Apple spellcheck is overriding some site specific dictionary)

It depends. On the one hand, we have seen a Jobs-less Apple before and it wasn't all that bad. The main problems were too many models that aren't that different, as you now see on the Windows side, and lots of great new software ideas that they couldn't pull together. I mean, the entire IDEA of OpenDoc is brilliant, and let's not forget the Newton that invented the PDA. We also will have to wait and see if Jobs has put the pieces in place to keep things going in the right direction.

On the other hand, we saw how all of Disney's big plans were abandoned after he died (oh, EPCOT, what you could have been...)

there's one about 1:43 into Jedi where Trey is talking about how you direct a guy in a Vader suit the same way you direct an animal that's rather amusing. Plus it'll show off that you guys actually make films yourself.

I thought there were a few unreleased movies, but maybe they didn't reach your high standards. I know during the Twilight 2 recording you guys were saying it'd probably never make the cut.

I thought John Lasseter ran Disney animation now and he had his people in place. Seems like this guy was missed in the purge...

Babylone 5 is a good example. I enjoyed the pilot, actually, but the first few episodes were a bit uneven. Once they hit the episode with the flashback to the Battle of the Line, though, I was hooked. Mind you, at that time we didn't KNOW if it would ever get any good. When a show first airs a lot can depend on what else is on.
(At a convention years ago there was lots of bitching about TNG at a panel. The author up front looked around and asked, "Well, why the hell do you WATCH?!", to which the general reply was it was the only SF on TV. The show wouldn't have survived nowadays with that first season)

Like with anything, it all depends. I've heard some people say with regard to an anime series "Oh, the first 100 episodes aren't that great, but wait until you get to this story arc!" At which point you have to wonder how much crap you're expected to suffer through to get to good stuff when you can move over to another show/book and have good stuff right away. In a way, the fact shows now almost all have these long story/character arcs is a bad thing. If Night Court didn't really get good till the second or third season, hey, you can just start watching there no problem!

I definitely agree. I thought even as we were watching, "if this were an anime, it would've been huge."

Oh, I don't know. All attempts to put actual anime into theaters has flopped box office wise, so I suspect Suckerpunch did about as well as something like that could do. Now, maybe it could have gotten more of a sustained fanboy/cult audience as anime, but then again as an anime it wouldn't be considered anything special where as a live action film it stands out.

The key to a "good" bad movie is the creator has to think they're producing art. They are reaching so far beyond their abilities that what comes out is unique. I think Birdemic reaches that.

Now that I've heard Trey trash 'A Bridge Too Far', you guys must do that film smile I love it for the historical aspects, but would love to hear criticism of it as a movie. I'm sure it has tons of flaws, but it's one of the few "based on an actual battle" movies I like. It has less cheese then it's sibling movie 'The Longest Day' at the very least.

Turns out, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES.

A prequel based on the 4th movie in the series, although as I posted elsewhere since it doesn't involve time travel it could serve as the initial start of everything.

Just out of curiosity, have there been many prequels that actually WORK? Temple of Doom had the advantage that there had been only one movie so there's not much continuity or character to screw up, but in most cases they create tons of problems where none existed before. Or they fill in character pieces you really didn't need. It doesn't help that they often come when the creator has run out of things to do with the existing characters/world, so they go back and do an origin story or tell stuff hinted at in the real books.

The Horiatio Horblower books are sort of OK, mostly as I read them "in order" as a kid. Coming back to them as an adult and reading them in publication order, not so much smile

It's a fun movie. The directors commentary is interesting as well, as half of it is pleading with fans of the book to accept the changes he made as he asked permission first, and half talking about how one minor change to one thing could have massive ripple effects on the rest of the film.

Grave of the Fireflies. Nothing better then an autobiography where the writer kills himself off as a teen because he's ashamed to have actually survived.
