Cool, maybe not? Bloody cute? You betcha
Someone mentioned Emily Browning as a casting alternative, and I was reminded of Sleeping Beauty. I haven't seen either film, but I'd be interested to hear an enlightened compare-and-contrast on the them.
Well, Sleeping Beauty isn't really about the fairytale. It's just a dark drama about a young woman who prostitutes herself while she sleeps. It's based on a novella called House of the Sleeping Beauties.
Browning gets naked a lot in the film, it's really a brave acting turn and quite admirable. It is an oddity but worthy of a watch (not because of the nudity)
EDIT: Just saw that Paul has already mentioned it isn't based on the fairytale. Should have spotted that earlier.
I haven't seen it
Well, I haven't listened to the episode yet, but I assume based on Teague's reaction to the film that it wasn't received particularly well by the panel at large.
They didn't hate it, actually. They were kind of 'meh' about it but it wasn't as bad as Battleshit.
Oh, it's always him, it's his apartment
Right now on the BBC is the Jubilee Concert for the Queen. Grace Jones has just performed! That almost makes me wish I was watching it but on the other hand, I'm glad I don't pay the license fee
The ending to Escape From New York is perfect in my opinion.
******SPOILERS IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT********
I love the whole 'fuck you'-ness of it. I love that Snake shows compassion for those that died by screwing over the president just because he showed none. Plus, it 'just stops' because the mission just stops. That adds to the mystery of Snake, too, we meet him as the mission starts and we leave him as it ends, no hanging about. It's great.
Holy shit! They're real!
I swear, my neighbours are shooting porn in their flat. They are always shagging these days, it is getting annoying. If shagging was an Olympic sport.....they'd be in London training and not here doing my bloody head in!!!!!!
Oh for fucks sake, love, he can't be that good!
This is true although, I don't think you would hear 'todger' on the BBC during the day
Yeah, for TV Ads shown during the day, they cut it off before the word 'shagged' was said but they played up to it. They let you know the word they cut was rude (by having a character react) which made people want to see it. The title is edited in TV listings when it is shown here. Usually changed to- 'Austin Powers 2' or 'Austin Powers: The Spy Who ******* Me'. The former is often used to save space too, though, I reckon.
'Shag' or 'shagging' has been sneaked into US media for ages as has 'wank' or 'wanking'. The Aerosmith song 'Love in the Elevator has 'shagging' in it. The character Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer used the word often. He also used the word 'wanker' on occasion too. Chandler in Friends calls a character a 'wank' in one episode. 'Wanker' has also been used in episodes of The Simpsons. All of these are cut from UK TV showings before the watershed (9pm) but the Aerosmith song is played on the radio uncut.
In the UK it was released in the cinema for one day but it sold out in so many places that they extended it for another day or two. This was last week, some cinemas are still showing it now and it is already out on DVD/Blu Ray here......
Empire UK gave this 3/5 stars while Total Film gave it 4/5 stars.
I will hopefully be seeing it next week, probably Thursday, it'll be cheaper then. Damn Jubilee!
The reason they decided to do this was because the lack of Duke was one of the major complaints from their test audiences, who rated the film "mediocre to bad". I shall extrapolate a bit based on this information, but go with me on this for a minute. This leads me to believe that they had quite a lot of people in their test audiences who are - think about this, now - apparently fans of the first movie.
Or just fans of Tatum whose career got a real boost with his performance in 21 Jump Street.
I didn't know they were killing him at the start of the film. I assume he didn't want to do the whole film, reshooting to include more of him sort of defeats the purpose. They must have gave him more cash
I think his full name is Klaus Crazyasaloon Kinski.
Yeah, the tone is all over the place but that mall scene is fantastic. And the film influenced so many others that totally ripped it off (Tango & Cash, Bad Boys II to name less than three)
Wheels on Meals is excellent, don't think I've seen Armour of God 2. (EDIT: I have, but know it as Operation Condor. Thanks Wiki)
No love for the first Police Story, Eddie? It's probably more stunt orientated than martial arts heavy.
So, Zombies are apparently real and are rising, what with the dude biting that other dude's face and another using his intestines as a cop deterrent. It is times like these that I am reminded of that R.E.M. song whose title is starting to ring true.
I am of course, talking about All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star).
The love of silent movies in this thread warms my heart. Buster Keaton was the man. Quite possibly the greatest physical comedian in the history of cinema. I'd throw in some Laurel and Hardy too, especially Way Out West and The Music Box (although, these are talkies). I'd say watch the others first and only really get to L & H if you have the time. There's no rush.
Anyway, how about some Jackie Chan? He's like an Asian Buster Keaton with added martial arts. A lot of his stuff is very heavily influenced by stunts in silent comedies. Just look at the hanging from the clock scene in Project A. I recommend that and Police Story.
I was going to say 'the other half' but decided against it. Well, initially, obviously as I just did. I couldn't think of anything clever to say instead.
Mask of the Phantasm is brilliant. I never really got into Batman Beyond, it's ok, but nowhere near as good as Batman TAS at its peak. I did enjoy Return of the Joker, any time I get to hear Hamill's Joker voice is a bonus.
Reality is dull. Sure exiting things happen, often horrible disturbing things, but when was the last time you saw a dragon or spaceship in real life? Us humans have always made up stories that are fantastical, we all want to escape from reality on occasion. From cheesy romance novels to Sci-Fi stories about far off planets.
If you could be a member of a movie/TV/book family, which one would you want to be part of? A family member that doesn't already exist mind you, create a character.
I smile and nod usually and say 'hi' or 'hello'. If they offer to shake my hand, I do so, but I never offer first. I always maintain eye contact, especially if it's for something important like a job interview. I try to be as polite as possible when meeting someone new.
My Q: If you could turn any existing non-musical film into one, what film would it be and why?
Right now on ITV1 in the UK, is Soccer Aid, a charity football match (for UNICEF) of two teams of celebs and professional players. Here are some of the people playing in the match-
Gerard Butler, Will Ferrell, Edward Norton, Woody Harrelson, James McAvoy, Gordon Ramsay, Michael Sheen and Mike Myers. Seriously.
I hate football/soccer but I may just watch it....
But they establish that the plank would have sunk with the weight of both of them, so no.
Exactly, it was just a door, not a specially rigged floatation device. It absolutely would have sunk with more weight on it, it's basic physics, people.
Science!
