Hitler invaded Poland, touching off World War 2.

Also... Teague's is a three hula hoop household? Faaaancy.

Meh. I don't watch it, but I think most shows with laugh tracks would fair no better. Don't movies use music pretty much the same way, just a bit more subtly?

Born just four days apart, William Tiberius Shatner and Leonard Bilbo Nimoy turn 80 years old this week. NASA got Shatner to record a wake-up call for Discovery.

What have each of you learned about storytelling and film structure while being a part of DIF?  And follow up question; have any of you incorporated what you've learned into any of your various projects whether professional or personal?

This is a really good question that I don't think was answered. I'd love to hear the panelists weigh in.

This was great! Thanks for getting it out so quickly! I'm listening to the answers to the rest of the individual questions now.

I directed the Star Wars/Star Trek mashup question at Ryan because he's a big Star Wars guy and JJ Abrams said that his new Star Trek movie was partly meant to be more Star-Wars-like. If you can have Harry Mudd in Trek, maybe you can have a Han Solo; it would just be a very different kind of movie or series.

Also, to Eddie's reply... My dad was never a movie guy, but my best friend treasured watching the spaghetti westerns with his dad when he was growing up, even tho they were kind of secondary for him as he got older. His dad died recently, and he and I sat down and watched For a Few Dollars More in honor of him. Good times. And I've treasured watching movies with my nieces and nephews, especially the one Star Wars/Batman geek among them.

Re: Cloe's reply, I'd never heard of Jhonen Vasquez. That's cool. In the chatroom, I mentioned that Comic Book Outsiders is a great place to learn about non-superhero comic books.

Good night, good night!

Actually, I'm from Indiana; I just write pompously. Imagine my posts being spoken in a broad Midwestern accent with a hint of Chicagoan crossed with Kermit the Frog.

Perhaps you're thinking of my distant personal friend, the Doctor from Speakeasy Commentaries, who has done some commentaries with my close personal friend, Tysto from Tysto Commentaries, who does sound a lot like me.

And I'm pretty sure 100,000 miles is, like, 200,030 kilometers. You double it and add 30, as I understand it.

Here is a new question for Eddie, tho....

As a new father, what film or film franchise do you most look forward eventually sharing with your child?

Also: one for anyone...

If the BeeGees somehow took over a small, third-world country around 1982, where would Barry Gibb have ranked among the world's worst despots? 3rd? 6th?

Teague: Do you have to corral panelists? Do you consider yourself a panelist wrangler?

Brian: Which Enterprise is your favorite Enterprise? And how do you imagine a real intergalactic starship would differ from Trek starships in layout?

Michael: How did you get the nickname "Dorkman" and why do you put up with it when you are the brilliant one? Is "Dorkman" your mother's maiden name or something?

Trey: You are a good explainer. Have you ever taught elementary school? If not, what else drew you to these children?

Ryan: Would it be possible to create a Star Wars/Star Trek mashup movie that would actually work?

Eddie: What kind of a car do you drive? I'm guessing Camaro with a chrome skull shifter or, possibly, a custom 1950 Mercury like the one in Cobra.

Matt: What would you like to see in a new Alien movie? (Answer must include more than "an alien".)

Cloe Z: Have you always been around geeks or is your presence a university research project like Diane Fossey? And if so, are you concerned about being murdered by geek poachers?

I wish I'd known about this rule before. 2012 was a seriously wasted opportunity.

But in that film, the main characters don't use the n-word or commit murder, do they? So for that commentary, the DIF panel should be allowed no more than three preposterous close-shave airplane take-offs.

For Raiders (back on topic), the panel should kill no more than 20 Arabs and Nazis and raid no more than two ancient relics during the commentary.

Meh. Where a movie veers into "God is real, and He's here right now" territory, God discussion becomes fair game.

At the same time, Raiders isn't Exorcist or Omen or Seventh Sign or Dogma, let alone Last Temptation or Passion, so it's good to be sensitive to what may offend listeners (ahem, white boys doing Pulp Fiction), but, hey, you gotta talk about something for two hours.

I guess what I'm saying is: William Shatner is the greatest man on earth.

MASH is so strange. I saw it after years of watching the TV show, probably even after the TV was over. It's like the TV show... and then they play a big football game. Like, WTF?! They have uniforms and pads and everything!

Has any panelist opted out of a movie strictly for disliking the movie as opposed to availability?

Have you ever considered doing commentaries for any television shows? For example: Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab.

Trey is usually barefoot during recordings. Does this seem gross to anyone (else)?

Eddie suggested doing some classic movies at one time, but DIF has never done any movie older than any panelist (Dr. Strangelove = 1964). Is this because Trey and Eddie are the only ones who understand how movies were made before electricity?

What does the Down in Front International Recording Studio smell like?

I saw Jeff Goldblum on the BBC show Top Gear. He drove around their track in 3rd gear the whole time because he misunderstood the instructions from the racing driver. This has never happened before, even with Doctor Who's Billie Piper, who took a wrong turn and cut off 1/3 of the track, or Tom Cruise, who nearly rolled the car (and still topped the field). Does this seem normal for Jeff Goldblum?

+1 for loop reality, I never got why they didn't just simulate it for him internally.

Because this is Spielbergian magic, and Spielberg doesn't recognize a difference between aliens, super-advanced robots, and ghosts. They are all one thing to him and follow his logic.

There's no significant difference between what the aliens in Close Encounters do and what the ghosts in Poltergeist do. And the robots at the end of AI are not are not significantly different from the aliens at the end of Crystal Skull. ET rises from the dead and phones home with a makeshift radio. And the wrathful spirits at the end of Raiders come out of a "radio to God".
