I just didn't want to believe it when Eddie confirmed it to me. I only know Michael through the internet but it has been years now. He is part of the extended family of internet friends.

My thoughts are with Michael and his family and with all of you friends, who are worried sick.

Not easy questions to answer since I have enjoyed almost all of the episode.

1. I think I have listened every episode at least once. Few of them multiple times while driving and flying. Some episodes like Jaws, Jurassic Park, Watchmen and many intermissions are my relax tracks. I seem to return to them while driving from work or being extremely tired. Those are episodes that are from movies I like very much and they have nice flow on them. Special mention should be given to LOTR commentaries. It's extremely nice to hear so many people and still those commentaries are not anyway cluttered. All jokes aside all LOTR tracks are huge source of information on Tolkien, the book and making the movies. I still have to listen in awe the amount of info Dorkman is pouring on us.

2. Second question is little bit easier. I would definitely recommend some intermissions first. IF the person in complete novice on commentaries. #28 - Film vs. Digital" is great starting point. Then #54 - Is the VFX industry imploding? Brings you a lot of insight on Hollywood and what state the industry is in. Then some movies. Of course it would depend if there is any favorites for the person listening but I would say the place to start are the classics.

I think that there could have been much worse choices. I am definitely interested what Abrams can bring to it. HOPING for a decent script.

Hey, I might even watch that. You know the fun part about commentaries is that it gives us, who live outside U.S, a chance to actually know something about the subject. Comic Con is just U.S thing and not all movies open everywhere at the same time.

Well, now I just have to watch the movie.

There are only few movies I have watched while listening. For me, it's while I sit on my computer or driving. Nice way to pass some time.

Yeah, nice commentaries. I just fell asleep in 30mins of the first movie, shit!

Yeah, you are Dorkman right. I just always felt that the plot on Phantom Menace was so astonishing that kids wouldn't care about it anyway. They just have to save the Queen. I know it is stupid assumption but it just comes to mind. Harry's parents and the survival somehow feel much more easier to cope with when it has happened in the past. You don't see Harry give any emotion cause it has happened so long ago. At the moment at least.

Have to think this thru. Again.

Well finally listening all of the STAR WARS commentaries I must tell a small story.

Being born in 1986 I haven't been around for the original trilogy. At least when it came out to theaters. I really can't tell when I saw the originals first time, but I have clear memory of liking them every time I have seen them. I had some toys when the re-releases came out. I have ALWAYS liked them very much.

On 19th of May 2005 Revenge of the Sith opened in Finland 00:02 AM. It was midnight opening. I went to see it with my now ex-wife. I didn't like Phantom Menace or Clones at all. I thought they were badly made and it was a real shame that they fell under the name STAR WARS. Yes I did like them visually and I think there are few nice scenes on them but I hated the fact that there was no story to tell. So the opening titles came on Revenge and I had decided that I will give the movie a change to start all over again.

So the two hours went and I was sitting in my car and driving home. While seeing Phantom Menace of Clones I did have strong feeling of dislike from the start. Now I was sitting in the car and I had to ask my wife; What do I think about the movie? I didn't ask what she thought of it but I asked what I thought of it. I just couldn't made my mind. My mind was saying it was a bad film and it never made a good story. It felt like the three new ones where total waste of time. At the same time my mind was also saying that maybe you didn't just understand it. So problem continued to next morning. I woke and realized it sucked. I didn't like it. My mind wasn't just able to understand that they had f*cked up so badly.

Then I had an idea. George Lucas took one boy as an example. Let's say he was at the time of the Phantom Menace only 10 years old. So he made a movie with droids and lightsabers. COOL! Next one came. Now the boy was 13 years and George decided that he can give the movie a little bit more action and darker tone. Anakin losing hand and so on. Then came the Revenge. Now the boy was 16 years and there could be death and all that. So I think Lucas made the movies to a specific age group and totally forgot the rest. I think it was way to bring a lot of people to STAR WARS and that group of people was all young. He just completely forgot the rest of us in the process.

I think this was done in the Harry Potter books. Maybe Dorkman can correct me if I am wrong. The feeling of Harry's loneliness and dying around him came step by step. Which is natural cause the story took some time play itself. Still I think my theory is well explained here. The people who loved the first Potter book when it came out in 1997 were gown ups when the last one came out. So the story and the darkness grew up with the reader.

I think Lucas tried the something similar but forgot that the story didn't work enough for the majority of fans that already existed.

If I did get what Teague was saying ( I am so tired) I must agree with him. The fact that there is no restriction on the commentary or podcast is huge asset. Those official commentaries which are cut when someone say something what the production company doesn't like, are pointless. I like the fact that if Trey knows someone on the movie, he can without restrictions talk about the person in other projects. First you hear great stories and second you learn something.

Teagues Planet Terror example is excellent.

Not saying anything about the intro, I think the format is/was great. It gives much more time to talk things other than the running movie. Good idea guys (TEAGUE).

Doc is right. Peggs best acting is a guy who is little insecure and "lost". Like he does in Shaun of the Dead and in Paul. Hot Fuzz is excellent movie but I think because the satire is so spot on. My favorite of the three but Pegg is acting fine because he is good actor. I just think more natural role to him is Shaun or Graeme. Actually he is good in new Star Trek too.

Casablanca being one of my favorite movies, I must agree with Mr. Faldor

Humphrey Bogart as Rick.

I must say another one because at least in my mind Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark.

Must say after watching both movies today, I agree with Mr. Pointy. Every time I watch Vol. 2, I like it little bit more. Vol. 1 is still my favorite but there is some excellent lines in the second.

PAUL, um, I actually loved it very much. I think Pegg and Frost plays their roles well and humor is well placed and pointed. Paul as character was many way excellent. To me the story was flowing nicely and the humor was nice. I fear what the movie would have been like if it was made by an American writer. Comedy probably would have gotten a very different perspective. Being a Finnish and living outside US or UK makes me see those things much more clearly. Even though the movie was quite straight forward the humor was much more intelligent than in American movies. SORRY smile

It is true that Hot Fuzz is definitely better movie but I still consider PAUL almost equal. Hot Fuzz is excellent parody of Hollywood police movies and nails all the marks it was trying to. Not even mentioning the SUPERB cast.

You must remember the fact that the seat of the director wasn't easy to fill. Pegg and Frost has done fine movies and comedy together and most of the people see this as a third installment on Pegg & Wright movies, which it is not. It is hard for me to say why it is a good movie because it just feels like one.

That pointless piece of text now finished, I wanna say something much more important:
I LOVE UMA THURMAN. aaaahhhh. Watching Kill Bill finally after many years and she is perfect. There you have it.

Cutthroat Island would be interesting. I think TREY has mentioned it more than once. It is apparently biggest single financial lost in hollywood and prime example why you should not cast your spouse.

Yeah, I really would like TREY to bring me a copy

I always got the feeling from the second one that Quentin was like; "Yeah, I got to make f*cking cool fight scenes and now I have to make the story complete. Damn!" Even thought they were filmed as one. As I understood.

I think Quentin was at his best at those fight scenes and all because he loved them. The second one is good movie but lacks the momentum and energy of the first. There is few great moments but I think it drags a little.

NOTICE that I will watch them at the weekend for the first time in years so I might remember wrong.
