Re: [BOAT] Show off your new shit
Very cool. I dig it.
If that were my car, I wouldn't make it to sunset before plasti-dipping the wheels to be matte black, but that's just me and my problems.

Mmm plastidip. If I didn't have aftermarket rims already I'd be doing that to whatever I did have in the meantime.
Congrats, I've got a 2013 automatic. I wanted the hatchback but ended up going with the sedan to save some moolah. Great gas milage, and sometimes the Microsoft Sync system actually works!
...what the heck is plasti dip? Matte black rims sound awesome.
Spray it on, it makes a kinda rubberized layer, and can be peeled back off. Meant to be used for tools and such to give it extra grip I think but it's a great way to customize rims in a non-permanent fashion.
My new RC from my wife:
5 channel coaxial, cyclic control. Completely unnecessary, completely awesome BLINKING NAVIGATION LIGHTS!!!
Got a new lightsaber today! First metal Ultra Saber for myself (two previous sabers were a Parks Saber and a PVC Ultra Saber).
(Second half of the video talks about Friends In Your Dungeon, you can ignore that 'cause you've likely seen us spam it all over already.)
It's a chip in a box.
New lightning sensor in the mailbox today.
Just look at how ridiculously tiny it is.
Can't wait to try it under real conditions.
I have a vague understanding of what this is...but what does it actually, like, do to do it's thing?

A light sensor at the front detects very sudden changes in luminosity and triggers the DSLR it's connected to. Since it actually detects the first phase (invisible to the naked eye) of a lightning discharge process, it sends the instruction to the DSLR before the actual lightning bolt happens, giving time to the camera (generally much slower than the sensor) to begin shooting and capture the bolt.
I've wanted to open a thread about verious storm chasing/photography topics (how to capture lightning, how lightning works, the different types of storm cells and how they work, etc.) for some time now, and now that I have time and money for this whole thing again it'll probably happen during this season.

Holy shit.
We used to ride horses.
Hooooooooooly shit.
I figured it was some sort of light change thing, but the fact it can see a lightning bolt before it happens is nuts.
And i would totally love a thread like that man, I don't know how much of it I'd ever be able to practically use, but it sounds fascinating.

Oops, kinda forgot to post this. This is Katyusha, our newest family member, who we've had for a bit over a month now.
KATDOG
PUPPY

I made this. Didn't really know much about pipe-making (after some research, found out that pipe-making is a freakin' serious thing. More jargon than I care to learn).
It's oak. Rough cut on a saw, drilled the stem and chamber, then filed and sanded the edges. Light finish comes from rubbing with olive oil and buffing. After the inaugural smoke it works!
Only thing I might change is to plug up the intake on the stem with clay and poke it with a needle to better regulate airflow. It's a bit too easy of a draw at the moment.

Sweeeeet. All ready to tromp off to Hobbiton.
...
Same here, can't see.
Hmm. Weird. It worked before.

Aha. Very nice!
Huh, that came out nicely. All you need is a skinny tube going into the bottom of a fat tube, pretty much?
Technically, yes. Though I'm sure all the pipe-makers on the forums I've been reading would scream in fury and rage at the sky for that "gross over-simplification"
I dunno. The only hard part was drilling the long skinny tube.
That's really bizarre. i popped in this thread right when you posted those and the pics worked...then they broked. Weird.
Regardless...I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT PIPES! WHEEEEE!! LOOKS AWESOME!
