Topic: Movies where Act III should have been Act I

They've talked about this several times on Down in Front, so I've been thinking about how many other films succumb to this problem.

The first one that came to mind is Jurassic Park 2. The only interesting aspect of that film is the idea of dinosaurs running loose in the city, but they only play that card for fifteen minutes at the end. An entire movie about tracking down rampaging dinosaurs would have been a vast improvement.

Friday 13th (2009) - so in Act 2 MY Jason could have appeared and chopped up the pretender in teenie little bits.

Are you saying the "keeping the girl in the basement" bit means that it couldn't have been the REAL Vorhees?

That is a departure from SOP for Jason, but bear in mind he also traveled across the united states to murder his mother's killer in her kitchen.

I was WAY more interested in Priest Vallon vs Bill the Butcher than I was in Leo.  That story Bill tells where Vallon beats him to a pulp and Bil carves his own eye out in shame, where was THAT movie?

Agreed.  I only saw that movie recently, and that was kind of my feeling too.  Also, John C. Reilly being a badass dude in a vest fighting alongside the Priest was way more interesting than when he was suddenly a bad guy police officer.

Was that an adaptation of some kind of what?  It's kind of a headscratcher of a flick.

Keeping a hostage, providing her with meals, laying triplines with bells attached by cute little bows, showing us his electrical lit lair, his vegetable garden, and all the other reimagining the makers brought to my beloved character blandified him and turned him into just another forest dwelling eviltype person.  2 movies away from a possible/guaranteed magical(?) p13 released on Friday 13th September/December 2013 and the ptb in all their wisdom chose to revamp the series and ruin him. Why they couldn't have waited I just don't know. sad

I agree that those things aren't very OG Jason, but you have to admit that once he was actually doing his thing in those movies (murderous mayhem), it was pretty rad.

And I'm a diehard Friday fan too.  At least it was better than Manhattan or X.

No I don't smile - the movie had lost me wayway before then, and no amount of creative blood splattering could change my mind, AND take the ending, "ok, we've just partially shredded the manic who's just butchered all our buddies, lets now carry him all the way to the lake instead of completing the job" - what dinks.

And I'm a diehard Friday fan too.  At least it was better than Manhattan or X.
