Obi- Wan should have been the character the audience sympathized with in the prequels IMO.  He should have been the on reacting to Jar- Jar in the first one.

as for my thought about Episode 1... I could write a novel... but I'll condense as much as I can.

a good sequel makes us look at the 1st movie in a different light. the best example (I can think of, at the moment) of this comes from the original trilogy with Darth Vader being an Antagonist in the 1st film (as well as in ESB and until his character arc runs dry in ROTJ), and yet is given new depth in the first sequel.

What this SEQUEL trilogy needed, was something that allowed the original trilogy to shine in a new light.

I have two thoughts that can never seem to escape my psyche.

Anakin shouldn't have wanted to become a jedi.

and Why Naboo instead of Alderaan?

One thing I wanted to mention on the anniversary show with respect to my son, is that I also dont plan to daisy chain films back to back either.  We live in the age where I could show my son these films all in the same weekend if I chose, but I actually think that's detrimental in the long run.  Part of being into nerdy things is the anticipation.  Some of the most defining nerd moments I have in my life were built around waiting for something cool to come out.  SO when he hits a certain age, I'm thinking 4-5, I'll show him A New Hope.  THen, a few months later, I'll show him Empire.  I'll TRY as best I can to make him wait for  Jedi.  After talking those out and seeing what his feelings are, we may...or may not watch the prequels.  Point is, I think it's important to regulate the frequency of completing franchises, especially at a young age.

I just finished the original trilogy with DiF and it was great fun and very interesting. Loved it. Now I am starting with the prequels today. I find that I don't hate them as much as many - but realize that they could have been sooooooo much better.

I agree the waiting for the original trilogy built my childhood. I remember that the Ewoks were such a secret that the backs of the action figure cards that released early had the Ewok figures blacked out so you didn't know what they looked like.

I don't have kids, but I would probably do what Eddie said and give some time between each.

Oh well... off to watch The Phantom Menace and dig in to some exciting trade issues!

The intended order for my hypothetical kids remains:

Star Wars
Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Get Out of My House

EDIT: Actually, for all my protestations I probably will have to show the PT to them so they aren't left out of the inevitable conversations with their peers. I don't want to be the Milennial equivalent of the parent who names their kid "Moonbeam" and doesn't have a TV. I'll just have to have the prequels talk like the sex and drugs talk. You're gonna hear about it and you'll eventually probably do it no matter what I say, so you might as well know the facts so you can approach it responsibly.
