I just finished watching the kevin Costner film Mr. Brooks, and it surprised me, I didn't think I was going to like it.  It's an interesting take on addiction, and the chemistry between Kevin and William Hurt is very good.  Let me know what you think, It might make an interesting commentary.

Well Demi Moore shoots it out with a escaped criminal and his girlfriend, and Kevin Costner shoots several people including Dane Cook.  Does that work?

Finally got around to seeing Big Lebowski.  Liked it well enough, but it is high time to DIF the Coen Bros.  I can see the talent, but I feel like I'm missing the point somewhere.

I wouldn't mind a DiF of Burn After Reading, mostly because the only thing I remember from that movie is Brad Pitt warming up, Brad Pitt getting his brains applied to the wallpaper and walking away with an extreme sense of confusion. And while I will never complain about having thoughts of Brad Pitt running around my head, I'm sure there was more to that movie then that.

I actually really liked BURN AFTER READING just because of the sheer balls involved overall, and particularly in the above spoiler.

TBL and BAR are great. It's all about enjoying the dialogue and performances.

Re: Suggest a movie!

If you're gonna do a Coen Bros series, please stick The Hudsucker Proxy, Ladykillers or The Man Who Wasn't There into the mix somewhere, mainly because those are the Coen flicks that people seem to either forget about or dislike (or both). I actually kinda liked all of them, and all of the Coens' films in general.

Also, Barton Fink.

Anyway, I see that you guys haven't done anything recent (aside from Moby Dick) in quite a while, with 2012 being the last film you've done that was made in the last ten years or so. I dunno what you've got slated for your next couple of releases, but might I suggest something like Inception, The Town or Last Airbender?

Re: Suggest a movie!

Oh, The Last Airbender (as well as the uncut Metropolis) has to be high on the list. Hell, because it's such a short movie (one of the many and perhaps the source of it's problems) they could do one episode of the show beforehand. Sort of showing how much life was sucked out of the story...

Re: Suggest a movie!

My favorite Coen Brothers are Blood Simple and O Brother Where Art Thou.  I think O Brother in particular would make for a good DiF.

I recently suggested 24 Hour Party People because I think Teague would lose his mind for it once he sees it, as any good music nerd does.  It's absolutely insane, and it has to be to capture that period of time.

The Last Airbender would have been truly painful for me to watch if it wasn't so goddamn funny.

I get warm feelings whenever I hear Jeff Bridges referred to as "the Dude" but the film itself doesn't do much for me. I don't understand why the Dude would hang out with a guy like Walter.

Yeah, up to that point, the film could have been a Bob Hope vehicle. The problem is, I think it might have worked better if it HAD been a Bob Hope vehicle (at the very least, cast Betty Grable in the Frances McDormand role smile).

The Ladykillers had SOOOO much going for it. The opening scenes are just gorgeous. I LOVE Tom Hanks' demented Colonel Sanders/Foghorn Leghorn. But jeez how did the Marlon Wayons and JK Simmons characters get in there? And how did they NOT have an early morning hearse chase with the sheriff, set to gospel music??

Oh. I was just going to suggest going totally retro and doing some stuff in black and white, like The Maltese Falcon.

And i think I'm really gonna have to go back and rewatch Burn After Reading one of these days, because apparently there was actually a movie there I don't remember. hmm

Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, Casablanca, it's high time Bogie (and Bacall) made an appearance.

It's from The Caine Mutiny. The Captain, played by Bogie in the film, in well on his way to winning the trial against the mutineers when he's asked about the "strawberry" incident. Things go down hill from there smile

Re: Suggest a movie!

And oh man do they....

Aside from the hamfisted love story, and out of nowhere patriotism in the end,  Caine Mutiny is a vastly underrated movie.  There's some real moral ambiguity going on and Fred McMurray shines.
