Topic: The Results Are In

So! That was fun. Thanks everybody for caring enough to vote and be a part of the community, and especially to the new forumers who came out of the woodwork just to cast a vote.

And extra special thanks to Phi for acting as official Math Commissioner.

So, here are the results. We took Phi's final numbers and added our votes (me, Brian, Dorkman, Trey) at the same point-value as everyone else's, and these are the "Big 6" commentaries we're doing for the next six weeks.

The Dark Knight               190
Unforgiven                        109
Batman Returns              103

Re: The Results Are In

Good picks. I'm surprised Unforgiven made it up there, it didn't have a lot of votes early on, but I'm really glad you guys'll finally be doing a western. That being said.....I cannot fucking wait for Last Airbender.

Re: The Results Are In

Very good picks. Are the other movies going to be DIF'd at some point?

Once we move on from weekly commentaries, it would take maybe a year to do just the rest of that list.   During which time, other movies will get released that might deserve our *ahem* special kind of attention.... so who knows?

It is safe to say that of all the movies we could do, we will never do most of them.  But that was always the case.

Alright.  Next day off, I'll get started.  I need a big pot... this gathering is gonna be bigger than anticipated.  Looks like a double batch.  Holy balls, I'm going to need a LOT of sugar...

Re: The Results Are In

Can't really complain what the Big 6 ended up being.  Out of all of them, "Unforgiven" is the only one I haven't seen but I can fix that if I want to.  Sucks that Rodger Rabbit missed out by just THREE votes as it was one I really wanted to hear you guys do.  Hopefully you consider doing it some time after the changes to DiF takes affect.

Speaking of which, I'm perfectly okay with you not doing a commentary on a regular bases.  If you can do one every other month that'll be fine if not, oh well.  Anyways, can't wait to see how you guys do Last Airbender.  Probably the best way to get everyone eager to hear that commentary is this:  WARNING!  WARNING!  DORKMAN RANT UPCOMING.

That commentary might need a viewer discretion when it's all said and done.

Re: The Results Are In

Looks like I'm actually going to have to watch Airbender finally, and ya know what?  I hope I LOVE it.    Because then we're gonna have one hell of a commentary.

/yeah, I probably won't love it
/might still pretend I do, though

Sorry to Trey but I believe that you liking the movie is VERY unlikely.  If you're not a fan of the show that the movie is based off or never seen it might help you enjoy the movie more but I'm not betting on this upcoming commentary being a favorable one toward the movie.

If I can make a suggestion, liqour.  Lots and lots of liqour.

Note to self: next time I'll do my own count ~15mins before the end, then tweak my votes  if one of mine is just out of the top 6.

btw: I've just checked and none of the winners has a directors cut or extended version.  tongue

Whatever type of booze you have, I suggest you start really drinking it before the movie so that you'll soon be passed and probably come to around the time of the credits rolling.  Believe me, that might be the better choice then actually watching it from start to finish.

I have a suggestion.  Why not during the Last Airbender commentary there is some type of drinking game?  Getting plastered might help the viewing.

*ahem* Close Encounters* *ahem*

Personally I vote we do the original, not the Special Edition, which wasn't very special at all.

In fact, didn't Spielberg disown that version later, or was it just the ET tweakage that he regretted?

Re: The Results Are In

There's at least three official versions of that damn movie.

Re: The Results Are In

You should probably do his final director's cut (its on the blu-ray), which has the scenes he wanted to keep from the special edition and ditches the shitty special edition ending.

Re: The Results Are In

i say go with the theatrical version of Close Encounters.  That way, people won't be confused too easily.

yikes  I need to go back to googling school. sad

According to wiki:
(1) first cut 1977, Spielberg not like,
so did (2) Special Edition 1980 which added bits he liked (yay) but was made to add internal shots of the ship that he didn't like (boo).
Finally (3) Collector's edition 1998 which he regards as his definitive version. (which doesn't contain no darn inside shipness)

Re: The Results Are In

I think that's right. Collector's edition has his deleted scenes without the extra spaceship stuff at the end.
