Development note: the larvae should require a live host. If they only need corpses, it's just a serial killer movie. If the host needs to be live, then the horror comes from his victims being forced to survive as long as possible while being consumed.

I lost track of this thread, but that is a great twist. I was thinking of it strictly as a procedural. Your vision is more Saw-like. Not my thing, but totally doable as low budget horror.

Regarding the subsequent notes: again, step 11 is making it plausible.

Warning: I'm probably rewriting this post as you read it.

I'd love for you to do Serenity. Or Indiana Jones. Or Hunt for Red October. Or Lord of the Rings.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Just noticed the DVD of the "as uncut as we'll ever see it" version of Metropolis also comes out this week, even if Netflix doesn't seem to be getting it in. I hope that also jumps high up your to do list.

(if you assume that the newly discovered clips were the first to be cut, an interesting way to view the film since there's a noticeable quality difference in the footage is to try and guess WHY they trimmed it as they did.)

Ooo, i can't wait to see Metropolis. I still have a soft spot for the Giorgio Moroder version with colour tinting and pop songs.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I actually went to see Metropolis at a cinema screening about a month or so ago, really interesting to see such an old film projected, and the model shots looked stunning.

Re: Suggest a movie!

If you are going with a Fritz Lang film I suggest going with M. It's considered by critics and from his own opinion to be his masterpiece. It is one of the first talking pictures and one of the first to use off screen sound (whistling) to effect. Peter Lorre, a comedic actor at the time, gives a breakthrough performance as a serial killer. The movie explores the ramifications of a child murderer in a German community. The horrendous killings affect the police, forensic scientists, the newspapers, the children, the parents, and even the criminal underworld. It is a masterful film. The Nazi party used the movie to warn against sexual deviancy. Meanwhile it launched Peter Lorre's Hollywood career.

It should still be on Netflix Instant Play.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I agree M is great, but it should be done in addition to Metropolis not instead of. Metropolis is not just an incredible accomplishment, but a fascinating failure. Having seen the new uncut print, it NEEDED a good editing even if in the end it just got bad ones. Those are the types of films I really like hearing outside commentaries on, where they can talk about what went right AND wrong.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I love Metropolis, too. In fact it ranks among my favorite films. That would make for an interesting double feature. Since Metropolis has been rereleased with restored footage, that is definitely first choice.

There are posts of Metropolis on YouTube synced to This is Happening by LCD Soundsystem. It's pretty cool. There is another creepy sync to Pink Floyd.

I avoided Sweeney Todd as I'm a fan of the musical. If you're going to cut the songs anyways, why not just do an original take on Sweeney instead of an adaptation? You guys tackling it would force a viewing out of me, though smile

Re: Suggest a movie!

I'd have to see the stage show to get a proper gauge, but the songs they kept in the film were fairly terrible, IMO. The film's rendition of "The Worst Pies in London" is nigh unlistenable.

Unless it's supposed to be like that -- I'm convinced that the POPEYE movie, for instance, is a deliberate satire on movie musicals and that's why the songs are inane and unpleasant. But considering that it started as a stage musical I'm assuming that's not the case for SWEENEY.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Angela Lansbury sings that song in the stage version available on DVD (though not on Netflix), and I thought it was fine. There's a concert version of the musical as well, which Netflix does have although not for instant viewing. It's not a NICE, musical, to be sure, but "The Worst Pies in London" is suppose to be a humorous introduction to the character.

Actually, the movie's a musical, too. It sounds like you think they cut all the songs. They didn't, just "The BAllad of Sweeney Todd" and "Kiss Me".

I love Sweeney Todd a LOT. Although frankly I would have much prefferred they used Neil Patrick Harris for Toby instead of the one they did.

Re: Suggest a movie!

hey guys i'm new here but just thought i would throw this out there, I avoided Sweeney Todd like the plague. have loved all other previous incarnations of the story and i'm sure this one would be at least ok, but if i have to watch Burton/Depp yet again hold down and rape something i love, i will hut them down, haha. I like those two guys fine, just not when they are working together.
