Re: Suggest a movie!

I loves all of the West Wing, but the Ainsley Hayes episodes are the ones I loves the most.  "Sam's getting his ass kicked by a girl!"

Plus the one where Bartlett calls the Butterball company.

Re: Suggest a movie!

A few years ago I briefly dated Ainsley Hayes' real-life counterpart. So as cool a character as she may be, I can't quite like her.

I also worked for a while for the guy Leo's character was based on. He was much cooler.

Yes, because I'm secretly Ronald Reagan and I've been dead for six years.

No, and from what I hear, it's a lucky thing.

I can tell you this much, though: When Senator Barack Obama runs over your foot on the concourse at Reagan with his wheely carryon, he's very apologetic about it.

The Fugitive

Kung-Fu Panda

And even though I fucking LOVE October Sky, I'll throw it out there even tho I don't think it'll make a great DiF.

Oh and Dr. Strangelove which I've said 100 times probably.. just waiting for it to sink in.

Gets me every time that sonuvabitch.

You guys like Tropic Thunder? Wait, did you do that already? It's on my list of "movies I don't like but am not really sure why". All I remember is Les Grossman.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Funny enough, Tropic Thunder is on my list of movies I liked well enough even though I expected to hate it.

Re: Suggest a movie!

TROPIC THUNDER spoilers....

I liked most of TROPIC THUNDER. It crossed a line for me, tonally, when Ben Stiller spent five minutes playing with a severed head. The director's sudden and violent death toed the line to begin with, but when that scene just kept going it went all the way over to disturbing and became impossible for me to find funny. In fact the longer it went on and the more time we spent dwelling on the fact that this guy was really and abruptly dead, I actually found it more and more upsetting.

But cut that scene out, or maybe shorten it to just the first gag, and I think I could say I love the flick.

Re: Suggest a movie!

That scene is exactly 1 min long, but yeah, it wasn't too funny. I am watching it now, obviously, and I like it so far. Robert Downey Jr. is great.

Tom Cruise is by far the best part of this movie.

Life doesn't give you many chances to say those words in that order, so when an opportunity comes along, grab it with both hands and hold on tight.

Re: Suggest a movie!

I remembered why I hated the movie, had nothing to do with the movie itself. I actually really liked it. Like a lot, it was damn fucking funny.

+1 for Casper and hey why not, for Tropic Thunder too. I was actually really surprised by it, in a good way.

Fair enough, I was going entirely off my memory and my impression of it at the time, which is that it went on waaaay too long.

Re: Suggest a movie!

It was exactly one minute, which was about fifty-eight seconds too long.

Re: Suggest a movie!

Well, there you go. It was too long by a factor of 30, and I was only off by a factor of five.

So, really, I was estimating conservatively.

Yes. Yes, that's what we'll say.
