Hopefully we'll get a DIF/WAYDM reunion commentary once the movie comes out on home video.

I was cautiously optimistic and I got exactly what I expected - a fairly enjoyable J.J. Abrams space adventure movie ("J.J. Abrams space adventure movies" are now almost a genre unto themselves) with some "fridge logic" issues.

Instead of having a truly original story, they decided to play it safe by rehashing the first movie (with some elements from TESB and ROTJ); obviously that's a pretty big flaw. But most of the other elements work just fine. The acting is solid, the banter is funny and the entire thing is fun to watch. Finally we got a Star Wars movie that's FUN TO WATCH. While TFA is no masterpiece, it's a step in the right direction.

And yes, "Snoke" is a retarded name (but the character design itself dosen't bother me much).

Well, we finally got the live TV series that was mooted a few years ago. Except it's on the big screen.

This is a really nitty nitpick, but they held the final shots of Luke and Rey's encounter really long.

Look at cloak, look at Rey, look at cloak. Cloak turns!
Look at Luke, now back to Rey! Now back to luke! Now back to Rey!
Rey holds out saber! Now back to Luke! Now back to Rey!

Now a flying shot of the the two of them with Rey awkwardly holding out the saber for an uncomfortable length of time!!!

I'm exaggerating, but it felt weird.

No. You're not. It was a baaaaaaaad sequence of shots. That helicopter shot apparently zoomed in from the moon or something was one of the most nauseating things I've ever seen in a theatre. Whoever looked at that and went YES this is what we should end our movie with deserves to be flushed out an airlock.

End on a shot of Luke and also, Rey, honey, that's the business end of the lightsaber. You don't point that end at people you like. Didn't you learn how to hand somebody scissors in kindergarten?

Or... hold it perpendicular so it's not pointed at either of us.

Personally, I feel that the ending of this movie goes on for far too long. There is so much movie before Starkiller base and so much movie after it that it starts to feel like a footnote. It stops being important and sucks impact out of the climax. I feel like Luke shouldn't have been in this movie, this movie we're building a treasure map, next movie we go find the treasure.
