That website is fascinating. I've often thought about make a website that would read way too far into movies like this, but this guy's definitely better at it than I'd ever be. You just know all of this was due to the sweater. Some dude saw the sweater and was all "OMG! He's trying to tell us something!" and just reverse engineered the rest from there.

I'll have to look through the rest of that site. I love that there are people out there who are so dedicated to this sort of crazy shit.

Original Trek was famous for that. They'd cut in reaction shots from other episodes if they needed one, the wrong colored shirt be damned. Often the people at the helm would change between wide shot and closeup, especially in season two when they used season one footage without Chekov.

I am on the same boat with you guys about this really not
making the grade to be on my personal top 10 or even top
50 best horror movies.
Kubrick is an auteur, he is/was brilliant, but IMHO he isn't the
best director ever, or maybe not even in the top 5.
Hitchcock, to me, is the best horror director.
OK, you can say that some of these other guys(not Hitchcock, of course)
are good because of Kubrick, and they emulate his style,
But whose to say that if Kubrick was never around that these guys
would have not figured out there own style.... 

I never did think that this was a very scary movie, IMO, maybe
the couple of "jump scares" when the kid sees the twins,
but the "here's johnny" stuff was more like a slasher, and I was taken
to see stuff like House by the Cemetery when it was at the
drive-in in 81', I was 6, lol, so good Ol Dad started me young
with the genre goodness. I here people say how they saw this
or that on TV by accident and they ran away terrified, that never
happened to me. I was reading those UFO abduction books in 1st

P.S.: This site has some fantastic photos and notes from the movie, I
put a couple pics up, the overview of the set, which as you can see,
is broken up into pieces, so it would be disorienting, but It was done
for space reasons, I'm sure. The second pic is a frame of the German
typewriter scene: “Was du heute kannst besorgen, das verschiebe nicht
auf morgen,” which translates to “Never put off till tomorrow what may
be done today.”

You are correct, I meant to say better genre director, or just a better director in general, IMO.
To Me Hitchcock is pretty much to King. I am actually surprised that they haven't
done one of his movies, or maybe they have and I just didn't see it.

Fascinating/maddening analysis of the ways in which none of the home media releases of The Shining have managed to get the bloody aspect ratio right. (I'm still reasonably happy with the Blu-Ray, whose transfer is magnificent in terms of picture quality.)

This problem is magnified a hundredfold now that streaming sites like Netflix and Amazon are doing stuff like cropping anamorphic films to fill 16:9 television screens. Few weeks ago was watching a movie on Prime that was clearly shot in 2:35:1 and had been cropped to the point that one scene, a conversation between two actors at extreme ends of a restaurant table, could basically only fit their noses in the frame. And here I was thinking pan-and-scan had died with the demise of 4:3.

I'm sure it does—I don't ever watch movies on TV so I hadn't personally come across it. It feels worse when it happens with streaming services because they're how so many people watch movies now. With a television broadcast it will at least usually have that notice that the film has been modified to fit this screen, etc., but someone who's watching a movie on Netflix is gonna be operating under the assumption that it's the proper film.

Clearly physical media isn't a perfect solution to the problem—the whole reason I posted that Shining example is because the DVD and Blu-Ray releases are all inconsistent—but still, this is one of many reasons I buy my movies on disc.
